We will try to bring some closure to Hawke's story but likely not in a playable form. Originally we had planned to do an expansion pack but had to stop to focus on what we are working on now.
Please Please Please make sure it makes sense though. I would hate to find out Hawke had been killed by a suddenly introduced at the last minute omnipotent entity that controls all the darkspawn or mages or templars, or whatever. Thats been done elsewhere and it doesnt work
On a serious note i would like to see the RPG elements return. DAO got this spot on, DA2 not so much. Dont get me wrong i am one of the ones who liked DA2 i just missed the more "hardcore" style rpg moments.
In general my wish list would have-
Voiced Protagonist! Please stick with this. Really adds to the imersion when your shouting someone down or making a joke. My silent Warden standing next to Anora or Alistair before the seige of Denerim just didnt seem right. In fact i thought it was out of character for them to make that speach myself.
Combat- i actually like DA2 combat for the most part. Loose the drop in waves of mobs but definatley keep the current pace we saw with DA2. I find mages a lot more enjoyable in DA2 with the new system. DAO mages standing rooted to the spot slowly firing spells of i wouldnt like to see come back
Please let us customize companion appearance again. FULLY. I dont want to equip armour on a companion and have them retain their "cannon" look so to speak. Half the fun in DAO was giving my crew the look that appealed to me.
Toolset please

I loved Origins, but to me its biggest downfall was the combat that felt like it crawled. DA2 really stepped up the game (although I think the enemies exploding often was a bit over the top and could do without.)
Give us the depth of story and customization from Origins, with the fast paced, but also strategic combat of DA2. That would be a winner in my book.
I second this! I liked how fast and dramatic the combat was in DA2 even if it did sometimes get a little silly, being a rogue was the most fun ever and giving mages the ability to use their staffs in melee combat was a great idea. They looked silly just waving them in DA:O when they ran out of mana. It's definitely one of the positives of DA2 versus DA:O, and as Baelyn says being able to mix the best of each together would make the next game amazing
This pretty much sums up all of my feelings about a new dragon age project.
I hope you guys have fun on your new project!

Didn't care for Hawke, but not seeing his/her story concluded in a good way is yet another nail in the coffin for my interest in this company. Another good opportunity wasted and another plot that could have been interesting missed.
I'd love for DA3 to change my mind, but as of now I feel that this company is hopeless in delivering the quality entertainment it used to be famous for; the quality entertainment I used to enjoy so much.

In any case, I'm going to split my thoughts into two sections, lore and gameplay.
Lore:
Dragon Age, at least Origins, was pure goldl. There was a RICH fleshed out world with much to explore and so many characters and places to work with. I was really looking forward to a dragon age two founded on the same principles. However, Dragon age II eschewed a lot of that and tried to localize the lore experience and in doing so really prevented much of the world around it from being fleshed out. I really just wanted to get OUT of Kirkwall and into the world at large (the DA map is just MASSIVE). You managed to do that with legacy to an extent and with Mark of the assassin, but it just wasn't enough in my opinion. I'd like to explore these grand cathedrals, the halls of these wardens, walk around amongst the slaves in Tevintir and SEE the epic battles. There has to be SCALE to the things we see/hear.
Control over the story is another point that keeps getting brought up. I'm no doubt sure that you're aware of the whole Leandra Hawke fiasco and how people perceive the final DA II battle, so I'll let that point rest. As for the subject of companions, I feel like the concept of characters having a base appearance works, but we should be able to change their outfits and whatnot with some degree of impunity. My major gripe with companions in DA II was just not being able to talk to them, they had great banter but would only bother talking to you if they were in party during quest dialogue or during cutscenes, that just offed me a lot. Companions are a fantastic lens through which the lore of the world should be fleshed out if the player talks to them.
So, in short, this is what I feel that a potential sequel to the series needs to do with regard to story:
- Effectively tie together the book lore and ingame lore and give players CONTROL over how the endings flesh out. We don't want or need screwballs.
- Provide the means to explore the dragon age world more fully: It's a huge place and we've only touched a tiny corner of the map.
- More answers/closure (Keeping certain questions unanswered leads to a situation where people are just left scratching their heads, like the ending of two recent bioware games)
- Branching Story (a la the witcher 2's roche/iorveth route), having the game play out almost linearly (which is what DAII did) really made the game seem too... bland in a sense. Even origins was a culprit of this. While there needs to be progression in a story, there also has to be potential for the story to take on new leaves and move down different paths towards new endings.
Gameplay:
Mechanically, origins worked but was clunky and yet beautiful, in many regards, for the console playerbase. DA II alleviated most of these concerns at the expense of what I would like to call *immersive* gameplay. The talent tree system for DA II was a notable step forwards, but in doing so really detracted from what I'll call "realism" in the gameplay. I, and many others that I've spoken to, have said there's a sweet spot between the two that can be hit, we're just not quite there yet.
The thing that made me buy origins was an old combat demo which I can't find the link to. However, it was in the tower of ishal when the player (who was on a mage) lit an area that was filled with tar on fire. These mechanics, along with the things players could "find" like shattering blows, were oversimplified in DA II to percentage based modifiers which I felt detracted from the overall immersiveness of gameplay.
Another point I'd like to make is in tandem with my lore point is the whole concept of immersion. DA:O and Awakening did phenomenal jobs at this, I legitimately felt like I was in a new area whenever I went to a new area and while I know that the fanbase has beaten the reused areas point with a stick, I'll say it again: It needs to NEVER happen again. We need to have an environment as well as encounters that make us feel like we are in those places. MoTA was pretty good about this though so I'll let it slide.
So, let's list out what (In my opinion) a DA sequel needs in terms of mechanical gameplay:
- Fluid, but tactical combat, almost a blend of what DAO and DAII did. Less action, but not a whole lot less.
- More exploration with abilities (a la combos in DAO), less binary combos and more *interesting* ones.
- Immersion: Every place in the game needs it's own map and it has to FEEL like we're out there, doing something. No more area reusage

That is really disapointing. In fact I'm pretty damn sore about it.
DA2 may not have had the best implementation. Might not be Bioware's greatest but it was still pretty decent and overall fun to play. You guys took a chance at improving the formula and for the most part did a decent job at it but if I had to fault you on some things, it would be that you've neglected other areas.
The game was still fun to play and that's what counts. I'm chalking this post up as support for one last DLC pack. Ignore the haters, this game still has a fanbase and you shouldn't forget that.

I understand the desire to move away from world saving games and to focus more on a singular character what I found disappointing was that in the end the story was very linear, railroaded to an extent and nothing could really be changed from the desired plotline. The Illusion of choice that Bioware games had enjoyed upto DA2 had in my view massively fractured by the end and there were a few inconsistencies in that ending as well as a lack of choice.
I became a fan of Bioware when it was a maker of incredible RPG games and I find it saddening that the focus of the company has shifted to other genres. I do not begrudge the necessity to diversify but I lament the falling quality of recent releases.

I loved both Origins and DA2 - so i'm really interested in seeing where the games go next.
It would be nice to have a longer game again, I always get longer play times on Origins than DA2. It doesn't have to be longer in the main quest, but give us more optional content. Towns, side quests, etc....
I quite liked the set character looks in DA2, made the characters more unique. If you go that way again in the future, can we equip party members with armour but just have it add the stat bonuses? In DA2 with the huge amount of item dlc, there was so much just getting dusty if Hawke wasn't using it. Special items weren't worth selling due to having no value so it would be nice if I could equip items onto my companions even if it's just a stat bonus and not an appearance change. As long as I can change the way the main character looks, i'm happy.
