I'd like to see a "ToolSet" again. That'd e fantastic. Make it happen please.

I support this too. I still play DAO because of the existence of the toolset. It is such a good way to keep the fanbase engaged long after the hype dies down. Also fans often have time to change and fix the 'little things' that you at BioWare don't always have time to get around to. Win/Win?

I honestly doubt I will buy another game from you guys after the ME3 debacle and DA2. But give us choices that matters and don´t take any shortcuts with the dungeons ( DA2 was just sloppy in that regard ) and perhaps you can win back me and some other annoyed costumers.

Oh, and fix the ME3 endings.

Yay for more unhelpful feedback. They need details and ideas, but your ****ing. There are plenty of gaming sites for that. You are mis-using your comments in this article. Why are you even here lol?

Suck it up tough guy.  If you don´t think choices that matters and better designed dungeons are vital for the success of a computer RPG I honestly don´t understand what YOU are doing here. Here, here, swallow that pride and have a cookie and a pat on the head.Image IPB

For me Dragon Age means Dragon Age:Origins. DA2 was such a different game that it can not be compared to the first one. That may be a major reason why I disliked DA2, I expected a sequel, something similar and got something entirely different. Expectations can change how we perceive things. This makes the subject of a new Dragon Age a tricky one because expectations will be so varied that they can't all be met.
I have seen some Bioware interviews where developers say they want to try to accomodate both fans of DA:O and DA2 in the next game. For me that would be the worst possible outcome. One of my dislikes about DA2 was that it felt indecisive and didn't know what kind of game it was and where to put the focus. I enjoy action RPGs, I enjoy tactical RPGs, I enjoy realistic graphical styles as well as over the top styles. No matter what style a game attempts, consistency is important. DA2 made the crucial error of trying to be everything for everyone and that rarely turns out well. So my main wish for a continuation would be a consistent style, and knowing what that style is.

I'll try to offer some more concrete suggestions and feedback.

An important feature of an RPG is the perception of a real living world. There are several ways to do that, TES games go for huge non-linear worlds with little structure. 'Dungeon' games like Baldur's Gate, DA:O or Diablo shows part of the world and let the player imagine the rest. In the latter case detail is important. DA:O had a lot of little details in the descriptions of items, icons, books to pick up etc. These small details helps to create an illusion of a breathing world. A feeling of excess is probably a major part of it. I don't read every book or every description of armor, but by knowing it is there the game feels bigger. Having the feeling that there is more to the game than I have discovered keeps me wanting to discover more.
Dungeon layout is related to this illusion of a world. A linear dungeon with an arrow to point the way makes the game feel deterministic and gamey. Add a few side passages and I feel in control, even if this feeling is largely an illusion.

Control and player agency.
Sid Meier has often been quoted for saying that games are a series of interesting decisions. For a decision to actually be a decision it needs to have an effect, or the illusion of an effect. Another element is that decisions needs to be qualified to be interesting. As players we need some knowledge about what effect a decision has. There are a few cases where new Bioware games fall short in this regard. One case is the dialogue options and the lack of accurate paraphrasing.
Another case is reliance on talent trees that are often hard to analyze prior to playing the game. If I'm several hours into a game and struggling it doesn't help me to know that I should have specced differently. But it will help me to learn that my spec needs to be played in a different way. Talent trees should not be seen as gameplay decisions, but gameplay styles. The actual decisions should be put into the gameplay mechanics and not frontloaded during character creation or while leveling up.
The encounter design in DA2 prevented the player from qualified decision making. By having encounters that play out in a way that felt random the player lost control. The player needs some way to initially analyze the encounter, otherwise the decision making process lacks qualification and becomes arbitrary.

I'm sorry to hear that, DA2 had several large problems but these were buried by the amazing characters, beautifully designed Kirkwall and nice combat upgrades. Hawke was an intriguing character however you played him/her (the male voice actor is amazing by the way, get him back!)

In the third game, I would like to see the following:

- The tying up of Hawke's and the Warden's stories. This will obviously be incredibly difficult given the sheer volume of choices, including death in the Warden's case, but I would like to know where they ended up, what happened to the relationships they forged and so on. Given the number of variables it will be impossible to set either of these characters as the lead in DA3, but I would love a few missions with them perhaps working as a team (or against each other if Hawke and the Warden are totally opposed!!)

- The combat tidied up. Don't get me wrong, I loved the new animations and powers. They did not exclude tactical fighting, if anything just made it harder to follow. But the addition of 'waves' in every battle totally destroyed the possibility of true tactical manoeuvres. Ditch them.

- More Darkspawn. They have endless possibilities for new, horrific evolutions so there is plenty to play with here.

- The 'man of the city' concept was one I loved. I felt really attached to Kirkwall, and would love to see something similar in the next game. However, don't make it an all or nothing, set us in a central location but let us leave for set missions in other places!

- Choices that matter. Enough said, DA2 posed some very interesting conundrums but when they did not lead the player down one of two paths but the same one with very slightly different dialogue or the same events in a slightly different order it did not feel like it mattered. Look to how you did DA:O: the end game altered substantially given your stance on the Dalish, or the Mages.

I think your biggest problem will be incorporating the sheer volume of choices made in DA:O and DA2 to the third game (if you plan on making this next next one in a timeline!!). For example, my canon Warden is a playful elf Mage who wants independence for both of her 'focus groups', whereas my Hawke is an ambitious hardass who hates mages and those who cannot do for themselves: elves in particular. How do you make these matter to an extent that pleases fans, especially when there will be people who have not played either?

Good luck, I certainly do not envy the immense task ahead of you!

Honestly DA has been sketchy...But then again so has Mass Effect. I remember hating the changes to ME2, then eventually dealing with it, then just liking the game for what it was. None of the games has been perfect or even close. There was always something slightly off about the controls and tons of bugs in ME 1-2.... and 3... man I think the bugs/game breaking bugs increased 10 fold... I never expected a bioware game to break so many times. Im still trying to finish my insanity run, but every time the game breaks, the steam goes out of my sail. Just as much as thinking about the ending...

DA has it's problems. DAO for me wasnt a fun game to play due to it's PC-like combat and didnt feel it belonged on a console. DA2 finally felt great to get into combat, but how the combat handled the enemies was off until the DLC came out and fixed it. The Conversation wheel was nice with the personality choice added instead of Ren and Par. The banter was far better the DAO and I didnt think it possible. But when it came to choice, we had NONE. What we wanted to do didnt matter at all, we didnt rise to power, We didnt live the 10 years that was supposed to be in the game and you just felt cheated. You'd walk up to someone and they claimed to know you, when you didnt know them and the whole time skip thing was NEVER apparent. You'd just get an email saying "years passed" and go..."OK?" You chosen to be a smuggler and never went on smuggle missions to earn your way in or a Merc to go out killing to earn your way in. Too many holes were everywhere in the game! Then you couldn't romance Aveline? I forget the spelling, but even though she looked completely butch, she was cool and I wanted to see that flag, but it wasn't even an option. The gifts minigame was gone and you couldnt romance your partner at anytime like in DAO. The world was way too small with nothing going on in it. You had 10 NPCs in all of Kirkwall and they never moved, never did anything cool and never changed their clothes in 10 years...like your party. The lack of customizing the party also killed it for me. The lack of choosing a race sucked as well. Recycled maps are just "NO". And It was too hard to get thru the game without it breaking on you... ALL THE TIME... Other than that, it was a fun game. I had an extreme Love-Hate relationship with that game.

IF you fixed all the issues of DA2, I'd be up for a DA3 in the vein of DA2. But honestly, the perfect storm would be a mix of DA2 with the fixes of the DLC, custom armor for ALL of the party and have the world done like Kingdoms of Amalur that just came out. 1000s of NPCs doing random things, HUGE world with TONS of varied environments. THAT is my perfect DA3 game, but with horses, cloaks, and dynamic weather. I still want to follow Hawke honestly and get a real ending...(bioware seems to lack those as of lately...) and get one that fits my choices! What did I romance Merril for?! What's Morrigan/Flemith up to and why is she trying to kill herself? What does my abomination child look like?

PS: give all mages back the ability to heal, my Blizzard spell and Arcane warriors, if you would?

I think it's pretty obvious the DLC sales weren't there.  Which isn't surprisng since the DLC was not only for an unpopular game, but also months after the fact (since they probably had to go back and redesign all the DLC to add area variety but I digress)

I get that profit projections are an issue, and extra content for a game that likely didn't meet sales targets is probably not very easy to pitch to some cold vampire working in budgeting/finance which is ultimately who project leads have to answer to, as far as I know.

With that said, with an expansion, you could bring in people who didn't like or didn't play Dragon Age 2. Final Fantasy XIII was widely criticized for its game play related faults. The sequel addressed those faults, and brought in a lot of new fans. An expansion could have redeemed the DA2 brand and it could have redeemed DA in general among those who didnt bother with DA2 and among those who swore off the franchise dramatically on these boards because of DA2.

Man as great as that sounds...I rather have DA3 being worked on to the fullest. Did you read Asunder? All the chaos and great things happening there? I cant wait to see a game with all that going on! DA2 made mages look terrible and I felt like even though I LOVE mages and they are all I play in RPGs, I felt like I should kill them off... That's bad.... I hate templars...lol

I wish you and your team the best of luck in your future endeavors. I hope you will be inspired in your creation of the next installment, as I'm sure you have been in your previous work.
I am a bit saddened to hear there will be no more downloadable content for Dragon Age 2, but I am in no way deterred from acquiring future Bioware Games.
I hope to some day be working for a company such as yours, either as a writer or graphic designer (I know, fat chance!) after my education.

I played DA:O many times and bought DLCs. It is a wonderfull game!

I did not finish DA:2 and bought no DLC:s - the story was not captivating, the interactions with your team felt tacked on and the nonhuman races had changed looks (???) to the worse. And I felt claustrophobic shut into that cramped little city and those minimal outdoor areas.

If you are making DA:3 please make a whole world again like in DA:O.

Speaking only on a gameplay perspective (because, as I said earlier, I do hope that any advice concerning the story will be promptly ignored):

Ever heard of this game named Xenoblade? It has a nice concept named the Affinity Chart: Riping It Off might be a good idea.

Also, Riping Off its combat interface might be one as well: on consoles, Dragon Age Origins was a strategy RPG with the interface of an action RPG, and Dragon Age 2 was a solo MMO à la FFXII using the same action-RPG interface. These were very poor choices of interface.

too bad, I wouldn't call DAII bad, just a nice sum of missed opportunities...but still enjoyed it enough to play it 3 times, it kind of grows on you a little from the 2nd or 3rd playthrough although I still love DAO's qualities more

In my opinion in DA2 they removed some important and good RPG elements but instead added exciting story and a better narrative like in Mass Effect which I really hope they have in DA3. And the story that DA2 with the whole 'screw you templars we're revolting' was really exciting and for DA3 and I hope they keep adding to either Hawke's story or the reprecusions of his actions.

shameless snip.

To make sure I get your concerns:
1. More customization (Let's me change follower armor. More equipment upgrades)
2. More traditional fantasy story (Epic enemy, clear villain)
3. More areas and areas variety
4. More control over my story.

Does that capture it?

First of all thank you for listening us :)

And no if i may add to Boudicia post;

Im really dissapointed by the combat in DA2, enemies having different stats just pains me whenever i try to play. We have 100 Hp but we can deal thousands while enemies have thousands of HP but deal 5-10 damage?
And its a world everybody can hit anybody, no missing or parrying.

It would be much more nicer if we battle with similar groups to us (someone can use CC combos in DA2s case) than mindless hordes (which made of legos :))

In DA2 nearly ever elite mob fight was similar, for example every mage kind of mob does some thing, teleports "moves faster than light speed" to a far area, shileds himself/herself and use heavy damaging aoe.
Or some bandit captain who has gazillion HP  just waves his sword through the fight.

I dont have problems with some elite/rare/boss type of mobs have higher HPs/resistances/damage like Revenants, first revenant in Mages Tower at DA:O kicked my arse to moon, like 10 times in a row. I shivered when i first see DA2s Rev but then he is dead in seconds ....
And this game really nead a bird view option :)

Another complaint is lack of puzzles. İn combat puzzles,  a few only puzzle missions, eastern egg/hardcore puzzles that wont appear in codex(or very little hinted) like dwarven palace puzzle where we stand on pressure plates.

This is the last :)
Out of combat skills and actions, minigames just to spend goofy time(illusion tricks, playing some instruments) quests that only involves inspection and interrogating some NPC, depending on our stats/skills (like Kotor where we solve a murder or ME2 Tali's court) traps, bombs, glyphs we can use in combat or in quest. (like bounty missions that if we capture target alive with traps we get more rep and money)

Sorry for long wall of text, i wrote it pretty quick and there can be some mistakes.
But i hope its clear to understand :)

Ohohoho, i just got an wonderfull idea for the ending for DA:3:

How about you let that child of Morrigan appear at the end, after the bossfight. The child, beeing a reborn god (sortof) gives you 3 choises to end the game.

1: Destroying the bilght with all darkspawn but killing all who had contact with it. (Maincharacter dying in the process)
2: Take controll of the blight and the darkspawn.(Maincharacter dying in the process)
3: Merging all races and the darkspawn and blight into one supermachine-beeing that from that point on cleanses the universe of all life all 50000 years or so.(Maincharacter dying in the process,... duh)

As for the last cinematic you see your companions who where fighting with you fleeing over the see on an ship, only to get caught in a maelstrom and ending up on a foreign tropical island.

Aaaaaaaaaand, after the credits you see a child asking an grandpaa varric to tell him storys about the hero!

Haaaaaaa, im a genious!

The fact ia that if they'll choose that way, three will be a lot more people complaining. Both the hetero crowd and the same sex crowd will complain for being unable to romance a character they want.
I'm fine with both the DA2 way and your idea.

5. Don't listen to people about the same sex stuff. If they can't handle that **** in the real world, they sure as **** can't handle it in the game. With that being said, stay strong in that regard Bioware, believing in same sex relations in a game is thinking outside of the box, and I'm proud that you guys are that open minded to include it in a product. You have balls haha. Or put more mildly, you have moral integrity. Keep it. It's an impressive studio trait. :)

I like that they have same sex relastionships i really really do. But making everyone bisexual was silly, not everyone is actually bisexual. Tbh the whole everyone is bisexual thing wasnt that game breaking it didnt ruin anything for me and as someone who actually is bisexual its nice to see relastionships like this that arent basically a complete joke with rianbows everywhere.

But seriously, Anders? If i didnt flirt with him he would get pissed off! The gay was basically shoved down my throat. Its like yes i get it your bi! calm down!

Anders was so weird in DA2, he was either complaining or trying to f*ck me.

Edit: what i would really like in DA3 is an actual romance. Im not talking sex honnestly dont care what happens there i think DA2's sex scenes were fine.

Im talking actually falling in love with someone. You dont just flirt a bit and someone is willing to "drown in blood" for you. I think DAO did it better but i still think it can be improved. Make the writing so good that it feels like you actual you is falling in that with that character.

What i personally think DA2 lacked most was human connection, that sounds odd but its true. In DA2 i was told to feel, in DAO i felt.

Mr. Darrah,

Thank you for the update, to be honest, I was against DA2 after the first couple play threws, some of my hate was my own bios, wanting the game to be something that "I" wanted and not what the creaters wanted. That fault is mine and I can acknowledge it now, but not at first :pinched:. I will say that after both DLCs and the patchs it has become kinda a new game to me in its own right. One that I have actually really been getting more into as of late. :wizard:

(As always, this is but my humble opinon :innocent:.) I LOVE Dragon Age, I LOVE BioWares talent and imagination in all there RPGs, Dragon Age being my favorite. I am sad not to get a playable conclusion to Hawkes story, He/She may not have been my favorite character in the series, but I am glad that we will get a conclusion in some fashion or another. Hawke and the fans who stuck by earned that.

I am MOST EAGERLY awaiting new Dragon Age news, and am 100% on board that BioWare KNOWS epic RPGS ;), Im not gonna let one game that didnt turn out the way that "I" thought it should have, keep me from (what I feel is) one the best fantasy settings since the Forgotten Realms, and the next one is gonna be that much better. Okay I have preached enough, we fans do get soap boxy sometimes lol :P.

Thanx for the update Mr. Darrah, I look forward to hearing from you and the rest the DA team in the future ;)

Creating content post core development timeframe is something we'll always try to provide for our fans but as others have noted there is a perception that we're up to no good.

In either case, allowing players to further their adventures in Thedas is always our goal. As everyone knows, there's always one more hill climb, one more piece of treasue to find and best of all, one more story to listen to by a campfire.

Hm. Is it necessary to release 'post-core-development content' right *at* launch, or could the team just spend those few months of certification and whatnot to start development of a larger DLC project then release it a month+ post-launch? Telling consumers that a meatier DLC pack is on the way would give an immediate focus to post-release content, and it's not as... demonised... as the scare-quoted "Day One DLC".

A content pack priced at, say, 1200 Bioware points/MSP (I don't know what that's meant to be in USD) and developed using all that juicy certification time, plus a bit post-launch, wouldn't be as contested, surely?

I loved DA1, played it multiple times, but have yet to beat DA2 :\\
I don't really feel like going through 61 pages of posts so I'll probably repeat some stuff, but I would love it if DA3 contained:

- Full Custimization for followers

- More dialogue options then was in DA2. It shouldn't always be clear what option is the good or bad when speaking to someone.

- a fun crafting system, which actually provides good weapons/armors.

- A better skill system then DA2, please.

- Better looking UI, optimized for the platform

- The Combat needs to be much improved. Too me, it felt way more tactical and fun in DA1, but in DA2 it just feels so... "console-y" (Yes, I'm a PC player).

- Toolset, obviously.

- Import character from either or both previous games would be great ^^.

- Most importantly, imo.. bring back Origin stories! Make them more personalized, expand on what you did on DA1. It was such a great feature and I was really sad to see it gone in DA2.

I could probably come up with a few more things, but in a hurry :P Keep in mind that these are my personal opinions, obviously. But basicly, make the game more like DA1 and less like DA2 and I'll be a happy panda. Looking forward to the return of Dragon Age!

Um, he only unsolicitedly flirts with you like that once in the whole game, and only if you're nice to him beforehand... "calm down" would be apropos here, I agree.
