Hawke's rise to power should include 10 years, but we only got 7 years.

We will try to bring some closure to Hawke's story but likely not in a playable form. Originally we had planned to do an expansion pack but had to stop to focus on what we are working on now.
I am the only one who was shocked to read this?
Next time, please send a fully finished game and not one with an ending that might or might not come with an expansion pack.
Otherwise, what I wrote about my impression on Dragon Age II still stands.
I really hope DA3 will be better. I love the Dragon Age universe and I know Bioware can make great games. Just take the time and do not rush.

I wasn't a fan of DA2, so I'm not at all disappointed to see it disappear into history, but it did do some things well I think warrant mention.
First, I really liked the lack of an obvious villain. BioWare hasn't done that in one of its RPGs since the original BG (where there was a singular villain, but the player wasn't really told who he was or what was going on until some distance into the game), and I'd hate to see you abandon that as a possible plot structure. I like games to offer my character a lot of different things to do that may or may not be related to each other. DA2 was, I think, quite elegantly constructed in this regard, as many seemingly unrelated quests all tied together later.
I also think DA2 significantly improved the Tactics page that you introduced in DAO. DA2 allowed quite detailed tactical command strings, and I very much enjoyed that.
Now, DA2 also did some things badly. While the cross-class combos were a nice addition, it was irritating that the spell combos from DAO were removed. I like the idea of multiple abilities working together. I do not understand why those interactions were always cross-class.
Similarly, I disliked the increased differentiation between classes. The enforcement of combat roles by class, much like the design of the cross-class combos, created a contrived, gamey feel to party design. Please restore something like DAO's flexibility of design within each class. All three DAO classes could tank or do DPS, depending how they were built. That's a rishness of design DA2 lacks.
Finally, the growing prominence of top-down story-telling in BioWare's games is very troubling to me, and I would like to see this progress either arrested, or at least stop limiting the open roleplaying that BioWare's games have traditionally allowed. BioWare developers have claimed that they always intended to make games that tell stories first and foremost, and that the more black-slate PCs we saw in past games were simply a by-product of technical limitations. But that means that BioWare's earlier games, very nearly perfect CRPG specimens, were so expertly crafted by mistake. That doesn't seem plausible.
I implore you to find a way to make the game you want to make without denying players control over their parties and characters. Any game you design will force the PC to understake some quest if the player wants to proceed through the game, but it's important that the game not assign the PC a motive for doing it. Please leave it to the player - or, at least, don't contradict the player if he does it himself - to assign his character motives. Don't assume that the PC defeated the slavers because he hates slavery. Don't assume that he spared a murderer's life because he thinks the killer can be redeemed. Don't assume that he disapproves of his companion's hatred just because he stopped his companion from exacting vengeance.
The PC's motives are not yours to assign. But so far, BioWare's implementation of cinematic conversations with a voiced PC have consistently done exactly that. Please stop.
Letting us disable the PC voice would be a big step in that direction. Not the only step, and maybe not even a necessary step. Maybe you can find a way to keep the voice without removing player control. But the player's control over his own character needs to be paramount.

Of course there can be invisible enemies or there can be an ambush but when you have a pause button and tactical options you should be able to see most of your enemies to be able to plan ahead. When then new enemies appear in a wave like it happened in DA2, your positioning might be off and things like that which isn't cool. Again, in battle, that could happen, but it shouldn't happen in every fight :-)

that´s sad.
although DA2 wasn´t my favorite RPG ever, the fact that it had no proper ending was what made things go downhill for me.

I'll be looking forward to whatever comes next...I may be a bit more hesitant to preorder, but I'll be watching the development of the next DA game with great interest.

Ahh, that answers my question... Then congrats Bioware, another franchise ruined. What's coming next? Jade Empire?
And why exactly there will be no expansion pack for DA2? Even a happy end with Morrigan was possible and a more or less good ending to the Warden-Story.

You can't just... not finish a story. The Warden had their closure, and we had the possibility to revisit them with all the DLC. But Hawke? The ending was kind of a cliffhanger, left me under the impression that he was still needed for what was to come, and you're saying there's a good chance it might stay that way? Maybe that's why a lot of people didn't like DA2, it just feels like a lot was pretty much rushed/butchered and you are walking the same path again. I loved the game, grew fond of the characters, and it seriously upsets me that it's just going to be left at that. What was the point?

Keep the skill tree.
I also like the "press a button and see something awesome" approach
Add a non party member love interest, this could be someone to come home to that we could customize, possibly
If possible, add counters that'd make combat more entertaining and engaging
Allow us to customize party members armor (or if we still have the upgrade thing in DA2, let us see the change that the upgrade was supposed to do)
Maybe allow us to change colors and tints as well-that could also extend to weapons too
More ENCHANTMENTS
For the story
We need a place to roam and enjoy, a home city, like Kirkwall. But, we'd also need other cities or settlements like in DAO.
I would like to see Hawke and my Warden to be in the game, and it'd be dope if they could be party members and, of course, we would have a new created character.
I'd like to see more Morrigan and my warden's kid. Alistair, as king, should have a bigger role in 3. I'd like to see more back story for Flemeth too.
A comic like me2's would be great just to make it easier for replaying and new players( I don't know why there wasn't one for ME3)
Give us an option when the maker comes up to state that he's not that big a factor in our lives (in fantasy games god(s) exist so I know you couldn't chose an atheist option reasonably)
That's pretty much it, thanks!

It's not like Bioware are even the first to do this, how many of us were blue-balled at the end of Half-Life 2?
I enjoyed DA2 for what it was. Even though it wasn't as deep for me as Origins, I still had a lot of fun exploding dudes all over the shop, and the story kept me going til the end. However, it didn't warm me enough to warrant buying the DLC.
Mark, I'm sure you've heard it already in here, but less recycling of maps, more customisation etc etc.
Also, is the cancellation of the expansion pack anything to do with the recently announced BG/BG2 remakes?

Is the Dragon Age: Origins epilogue the sort of thing you were thinking?William91 wrote...
If we get a DA3, there is only one thing I would ask for. An ACTUAL ending. We want to know what the hell happens to our character and the other npcs that affect his/her life! I still dont know what happened to: The Hero of Neverwinter, Revan, The Warden, Shepard and now, Hawke. And I dont want to read a novel, a comic, or wear a t-shirt to know if they are alive, dead or made into zombies by cybernetic monkeys, I want to PLAY it, I want the game to tell me that.

I liked both games, but they didn't quite feel like they were from same series - DAO was oldschool and more variable, DA2 was dynamic.
I just want my Alistair (the OLD one) and Fenris and Anders and Isabela and Varric and Flemeth back! And old elves, too. Didn't really like those big-eyed insectoids.
