That's unfortunate.

I wonder what their better opportunity is?

I have feeling every EA published game will require origin now, even if they manage to not forcefeed MP in a SP game.

Then i have to stop to puchase EA games.. I don't want spyware on my pc...

Unfortunately that's my sentiment too. I had Origin on my PC in order to play the KoA demo, and I was happy to delete it. If I have to use a digital platform, then it's Steam, or alternatively another publisher-independent platform.

Maybe the console version...but that's usually a poor second to a PC version:(

Steam's not a publisher-independent platform.

In the other thread in the announcement forum I asked if it was possible for Obsidian to make a DA2 expansion e.g. give the DA2 expansion exalted march to Obsidian?

I have bought Legacy, I haven't bought Mark of the Assasin yet, since money is real tight rigt now and you can't eat digital stuff (well, unless you're a robot that feeds on digital software, and I'm not.....) I plan, however, to get it some day....soonish...

My guess is that that better opportunity is working on a DA3 game, since this is the -ahem- game that EA would give them money to do....

Btw, the ending controversy going on in the ME3 forums right now reminds me of how it is here when DA2 came out. I can spot two differences, Laidlaw quickly taking charge explaining the ending(s), David Gaider, Lead Writer explaining what the ending leads up to. I hope the ME3 Bioware devs. and fans are able to work out their differences. Also, Laidlaw's letter to the fans last summer (2011) really helped....

I liked DA2 and I thought Hawke was a cool guy. I'm sad that we won't see what happens to him now (unless they do something with him in the comic or make another book). I was looking forward to playing as him again. Maybe he show up in DA3 as a NPC or even a party member.

On the downside, they scrapped a DA2 expansion.  On the upside, that means they get to spend more time on DA3.

One does not follow from the other.  Cancelling DA2 expansion likely just means DA3 will release earlier.

And since it likely reflects the lack of sales for DA2 and it's DLC, it may in fact signal a reduction in budget for DA3.  EA will want to invest in success, not failure.

It does sound like budget cutting but hopefully they will make it a couple year development time. Do you think that would be enough time? I don't think expansions are that profitable anyway but I don't understand why the DLC's are cut.

I would have loved to see an Exalted march expansion.

I agree with you it most likely means they are going to put more people on dragon age 3 so they can release it sooner. I don't think DA2 sells were a factor maybe DA Awakening didn't sell too well so they saw more profit in releasing a sequel vs. an expansion to a game that's over a year old.

I think this is a decision that has only losers. The people that Flamed Dragon Age II because it wasn't like DA:O are not going to like Dragon Age III either, because nothing will compare to the first experience.

And the people that liked Dragon Age II are not getting the closure most of us would have liked before moving to something new in the universe because Bioware doesn't feel we are big enough of a priority.

I'm glad they decided to scrap it. Even though Legacy and Mark of the Assassin addressed some of the concerns people had with DA2, there is only so much they could do with what they currently had. I also don't think it would sell very well. I know a lot of people did like DA2, but I think the majority didn't or at least don't like it enough to pay for an expansion pack.

Hopefully they can refocus for DA3.

Ha, I totally called it. I said it'd be called Exalted March.

Anyway, I am kinda over Hawke's story now, with no desire to go back to DA2 again. The optimist in me is really looking forward to seeing how DA3 shapes up. Don't disappoint me Bioware :)

(The cynic in me however is saying "they're trying to distract us from the crappy ME3 ending by giving us good news about DA instead!")

That's unfortunate. Despite its myriad flaws, I still enjoyed DA2.

Despite the reduction in sales from DAO DA2 certainly sold enough to make a profit.

I really hoe they will concentrate on DA3 and not on more comics/novels/anime. If they gave up this DLC for something like more anime, I will rage. Also? Thanks for telling us what the DLC would have been about. It got me excited over something that will never be :(

I though they could save DA2 but Bioware failed in my book.

I would have much preferred an expansion than a bunch of DLC. I enjoyed DA2, I enjoyed it for what it is, not what it wasn't. I have the same opinion about Origins, that too is a deeply flawed game, had I focused on them, it would be a pretty shabby game. However I focus on the strengths, that's why I thoroughly enjoyed that one as well.

I would not have bought an Expansion this late in the game. Maybe... six months ago? But going from March to March with a bitter taste in my mouth for the ending in DA2 is a long time for me ton consider going back. Unless I heard from word of mouth - and by that, I mean actual words from actual mouths of friends who played it and loved it - I would have kept Dragon Age 2 on my shelf gathering dust. I wouldn't have paid money to get a real ending for DA2, just like I won't pay money to see a real ending of Mass Effect 3.

Case Closed.

Making DA3 is said opportunity.  DA2 expansion would necessarily be too similar for those who dislike DA2 to ever want to buy, but DA3 will have the hope of re-revamping the franchise.

Yes I would think it happened when DA3 was given the go ahead, probably got a release timeframe as well.

Sad day indeed :crying:

I really liked DA2 and wanted more....

I would rather not have known the expansion pack plans even existed. How can I be sad and dissappointed in something that I don't know exists has been cancelled? Now my mind is just wondering about the what might have been.

Pity. Would have liked an expansion.

I'm currently playing through DA2 again in order to help forget the bad taste of the ME3 ending.

Its a DRM program that PC players have to use to validate that the game they are playing is a genuine copy and not pirated.

It is fairly easily circumvented, from what I understand, so it doesn't stop hackers. And it collects all sorts of information about your gaming and computer usage, from what I understand. So many people view it as a thinly veiled attempt at prying into your personal computing habits to better market games and the such from you, disguised as a secuirty measure to prevent pirated software. EA is trending towards making it mandatory for all of their PC games, in their infinite, marketting-centric wisdom.
