We are ALL paying attention to the 99% of the game that came before the ending.  If we weren't there would be NO outcry over the pitiful ending they provided for one of, if not the greatest game trilogies of all time.

I feel sorry for the programmers, the artitsts and the voice cast: they've worked hard.
I don't feel sorry at all for the ones in charge.

No. Just as I don't feel sorry for HItler.

Yes I did just compare Mass Effect 3 to the Holocaust.

Dammit, you just had to go and invoke Godwin's Law, didn't you?

Now we've lost the arguement. Go home everyone, Retake Mass Effect is over!

I feel sorry for the Bioware employees who supported a different ending.

Nope.. don't feel sorry one little bit.  I have been litterally physically and mentally sick since the ending.  I dont feel sorry for anyone that has intentionally put me through mental and emotional stress.

Wait, WHAT?

Are you friggin' SERIOUS?

It gets more ridiculous every day.

Yes. I am serious.

I can't help but feel considering statements they made in past concerning all your choices throughout the ME games and their experience in this style of game that they knew exactly what they would provoke and that something will be released sooner or later and that this is all about generating publicity .

No sympathy here.  They promised us multiple endings and wildly diverging paths.  What we got was the most linear game in the series and a choice of three different colored light shows at the end.

They made a promise and couldn't keep it.  I don't care what their reasons were, they ultimately failed.  So no, I do not feel sorry for the writers, they brought this upon themselves.

That being said, the programmers, artists, level designers, composers, sound designers, and VAs are off the hook.  They did an amazing job, and those aspects of the game are pretty damn solid.  A few bugs here and there, but those can eventually be fixed with patches.  The sloppy writing at the ending (seriously, what the hell happened?) is a lot less forgivable since the rest of the story was pretty damn epic by comparison.

I feel sorry for most of the staff, because they will have done their jobs well and thanks to the bad decisions made by others now find that their work is getting criticised all over the world.

I have no sympathy for those who made the decisions though. They created this mess through their own actions.

A fair point, but many people are saying that they won't replay this game because of the ending. That implies that the 99% isn't fun enough to replay despite the ending. Sometimes the journey should overshadow the destination.

I feel sorry for BioWare, as we are blowing things out of proportion.
I feel sorry for the forum community as it is waging a war with itself and that makes the forum very emotional, way over the level it should be.
I feel sorry for players who find the ending lacking, and I feel sorry for those who do like it and get constantly bashed for it.

People should focus on positive things. Everyone would be happier. How about every time you same something you disliked in the game, you say something you liked in it too? I would enjoy that way more.

No! Bioware lied to their customers in pre-launch interviews to boost sales. They have made this mess themselves so let them either make it right with the customers or let them fall due to their actions.

Doesn't seem ridiculous. When you get emotionally invested in something like this, a let down can be devastating. I remember when Anakin Solo died in the Star Wars extended universe. I'd read books about him since about the time I started reading. I took that pretty hard.

Yeah, feel pretty sorry for them. Three wonderful games ruined in 10 minutes.

But we reject their reality and substitute it with our own.

Indeed, statements like these are unforgivable considering they knew what the reality was.

I feel sorry when people act harsh and post unpolite insulting stuff. The game and even the main idea of giving us a "bittersweet" ending was ok... It was just not done right. Still love the rest of the game.

The criticisms of the ending are tightly focused. The programmers, artists, actors, sound guys, and the writers who were not involved with the ending (and anyone else I didn't mention) can all be justifiably proud of their work. ME3 is overall a great game.

I do feel sorry that Bioware has ignored multiple warning signs that a huge fan backlash was coming for years. There was fan outrage over day 1 DLC, about too much DLC, about bad writing, about being part of EA, about rushed deadlines, about dumbing down their games, about making an MMO, etc., but they have kept plowing ahead doing things their fans dislike. Whether all of the prior complaining was justified or not (I think most of it was and that over the endings definitely is) it was pretty obvious that Bioware's core fanbase was becoming incompatible with its business practices. It was bound to blow up in their faces eventually.

Actually yes, look as much as the endings disappoint, the rest of the game is Awesome, that should never be forgotten. If the rest of the game wasn't awesome, then I think the disappointment over the endings would be much much less, we are upset because we love the game and series. This shouldn't be forgotten, 99% of ME 3 is amazing. This needs to be repeated so the people who worked on it, understand, the anger and upset comes because oddly we loved what they made... weloved it so much and invested so much into it, that we needed the end to reflect that back to us.

Or we at least need something, if the end was not meant to be the end, and I admit in this day of DLC it's entirely possible it wasn't then they need to say this, just a brief annoucement don't wan any spoilers, just something like 'Hold on guys, the rides only just got started. It was felt that DLC for ME 3 would be best done post ME 3 rather than during it, so the story is not over. That closure you want is coming, honest' Would i think more that satisfy folks.

Thats what Bioware need to do, or what they needed to do when this whole thing started.

No, because there is no way that everyone stated this ending was a great idea. Either the writers were arrogant enough to believe everyone would love it and kept the ending a secret until the last second, or they ignored all the people who said it was awful internally (or nobody had to the balls to tell them it blew).

I cannot figure out how the ME3 authors did not see it coming. There was quite a huge backlash on Dragon Age 2 for an ending where you have nothing to say no matter what.

At least the gameplay was not dumbed down... sorry, "made more accessible".

So no, I'm not feeling sorry for them.

I can say that 99% of the game was good but the ending was bad, so therefore it sours my experience. And that's EXACTLY what many people are experiencing. The whole "Oh but 99% of the game was good therefore the entire game experience was good and people are just angry!" defense doesn't work at all, because it doesn't take into account how the human brain works.

For example: if I give you an apple, and it's all good but that FINAL bite you take has poop in it, what will you think? "Oh well, 99% of the apple was good!" or "What the he***** is this?" I can assure you, you'd be thinking the latter of the two.

Thanks for trying to derail the topic about why people don't like the ending, though.

Now, to be on topic: I can feel sorry for the people at bioware while at the same time not feel sorry for the people that decided that this ending was the best course of action. The human brain can work with many different things at once, and once you realize bioware is a bunch of people instead of just one big thing clumped together, it makes it easier to think about things.

That poor guy working in the cubicle who wanted the ME series to be hailed as the best series of all time and wanted ME3's ending to leave a POSITIVE lasting impression on the fans? Sure, I feel sorry for him. On the other hand, the guy in the executive office thinking what the best way to sucker money out of people would be? I don't feel sorry for him.

See that? I can feel sorry and not feel sorry about bioware at the same time, because it's more than just, "Oh, don't people feel sorry for THIS ONE THING?"

This one hates the presented ending and yet this one is close to finishing his second playthrough.

After all ... ME is still an RPG - albeit a rather action-packed one since ME2 - and therefore I still want to fathom the majority of dialogue options, companion interaction by varying party members and - of course - the mostly briliant cutscenes. Additionally, I want to get all weapons to Level 10 and buy all that expensive Spectre gear, too ...
