Hello all! I have a quick question for the community. I'm playing through Mass Effect 2 with a new ME 1 import file, to prep a different Shepard for ME 3. In this case, it's a female Shepard, rather than a male, which was my first import. I wanted to romance Garrus through this playthrough, however, I seem to have "screwed up". When talking to him about dealing with stress on turian vessels, and expressing my interest in "helping release stress together", I said I wouldn't mind sparring with him. I've now completed everything except the final mission, and all I get is "Can it wait? I'm in the middle of some calibrations". I'm guessing this means I chose the wrong dialogue option. That makes me feel awful, as there really was no indicator as to which was the "right" choice, and I feel I shouldn't have to look up a romance FAQ to know how to romance my character of choice. Is there a way to edit things, e.g. files, console commands, what-have-you, to either undo my choice, or "move back" in the conversation? I feel like I've been robbed of the opportunity to romance one of my favorite characters, and it would be awful if the solution is "tough break kid, play through the game again". Is there anyone who can give me an answer to this? I'll play it through again, if needs be, but that'd be a last act of desperation that I'm really hoping to avoid. I made my choices in this game, and I want to see the significance of their impact and how things develop in Mass Effect 3, not play through the whole game with the same choices AGAIN, just because I made one mistake (that doesn't even seem like a mistake to me). Much appreciated!

When FemShep is talking to Garrus about sparring, there are two options - one that sounds like actual sparring (friendship), and one that suggests they skip right to the "tiebreaker" (romance). I'm guessing you chose the first one.
It is possible to edit files to import the Garrus romance into ME3, but don't ask me how it works. I have no tech skill. All I know is there's a box to check off the option somewhere. I'm not sure if this will help your ME2 playthrough though. If you're that far in the game already, you've probably missed out on most of the romance conversations. It might be more rewarding to just replay at this point. Do you have a save around Garrus' loyalty mission? The romance can start right after that.

Thanks for the response!
It seems like it's probably better to just reload my save from around his loyalty mission, as you suggested. It's just a shame, because I already know it's going to kill my vibe to want to play; having to play through the exact content I played over the last day or two. I know it's going to ruin my character immersion. I guess I'll just try to rough my way through it, as the choice to romance Garrus for this character was a big change over any previous character, and is a must-have for me. Thanks again!

Glad I could help.
I know how that is, replaying the whole thing again with the same choices when you feel like, "But I just did all of this!" In my case, it was a ME1 romance trap that messed up the playthrough, and the only way to fix it would involve going back to the beginning. It can help to focus on your favorite scenes that you'll get to play again. Garrus' romance is definitely worth it.
