Hrmm..I dont really mind the gear, but then I guess I was expecting the gritty realistic fantasy setting, so armour that looks kinda like real medieval armour doesn't faze me. Just bare in mind if they make the "epic" armour look more "Epic" your then going to get people complaing that this isn't WoW and we don't need ridiculous candy coloured armour in here.

=D

There should have been an useable "Adamantium Sword" and an useable "Adamantium Axe" availible in Dragon Age: Origins actually for the "warrior" class to use in game.

I think that would draw too many thoughts to X-Men.

I think that Bioware did a good job in creating materials that aren't overdone and are virtually exclusive to them, I.E. Dragonbone, Drakeskin, Starmetal, etc etc.

I find it inexplicable with all the money flying around, they managed to skimp on the variety of gear models.

Perhaps in future DLC? :P

It is said they have 2 years of DLC planned afterall.  Although I think thier main modelers have probably moved on to ME2 by now.

Massive armor has the juggernaut model, and.... I guess the dwarven armor too.

You'd hope with DLC you'd get some new looks, but as is evident with the Return to Ostagar DLC, it's still the same models painted in a different color :(

Effort armor and Juggernaut armor side-by-side look pretty dang different to me.

haha well what i was getting at, is that for light armor, like leather or robes, your gear looks exactly the same thoughout the game, even if it is like a hundred times better
where as the heavier plate armor types you can see an obviously scale from the simple splintmain types, to the massive dwarven armor, or the dragon bone armor.

sorry if using the word "epic" somehow made my topic wow/mmo related lol

Ps. they could have seriously kept away the wings on the grey wardens helmet ...probably would have looked much cooler that way.

You mean Duty? I thought the wings looked quite nice, made it different then your default templar or classic medivel helm style.

The template was probably used on several helmets. One of them being the grey warden helmet. Anyway I found it silly looking. But that's a matter of taste in the end.

I agree, rogues and mages got royally screwed in this game. It almost seems like laziness to me, almost.

maybe thats just how they envisioned people wanting rogues and mages to look? or maybe they thought robes and leather werent as important as the heavy plate, since the majority of your party is made up of plate wearers.

The game isnt even a month old ffs. Give them some time to catch up. You all have the patience of a five year old.

haha ive said that exact thing when responding to posts about how bad dlc because people didnt like wardens keep.

i think what most people were saying, is thay it should have been in the game originally, they had all that extra time to fix up other things, why not make a little more variety in the gear?:P

What are you talking about? The game is many years "old", it has been in development for many years, plus the PC version was completed almost a year before the console version. Then they announced the PC version being released "later", meaning together with the PC version...

And I totally agree: In all this time they could've made more models. For instance: I bought one of  - if not THE - best light leather armor for Leliana two hours ago. The stats are really great, but the look...well it looks like a leather armor. There's really nothing special to it, despite the price of 88 gold.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a game breaker, I'm just saying they had the time and money to do it, but it seems they lacked the enthusiasm. <_<

Only so many ways you can have leather, chainmail, scalemail, or platemail appear before ending up looking more weird then cool/functional.

I must say tho I prefer these armors then some of the crazy stuff you see in some mmo's...*cough* wow *cough*

I don't want "epic" looking grandure armors. But some more choice would have been nice. I really liked the grey warden armor tho. Altho they could have cut off the wing things at the side of the knee's and the helmet.

They must be saving up all the good-looking models for an Orlais expansion. It is the only possible way the current armor and robes can make sense.

yes definitely, avoiding the crazy-ness that ends up in games like wow as far as gear was very appreciated

and as far as there being a limit to what you can do
thats true, but they could have come up with more than two leather designs easily.
the robes were okay, i mean you see about 5 or 6 different designs.
but the mage hats..were terrible lol they looked like the dunce caps you saw on old tom and jerry cartoons.
and yeah the plate armor, they may have started running out eventually. but i mean, they could have just changed minor details about it. like making iron, and grey iron splintmail look slightly different than each other. they could have made the more basic stuff, look very basic, and then slowly added onto it as you went up the heirarchy of gear
but i agree, its not a deal breaker, nor will it influence my gameplay greatly, its just something that could have been easily fixed, or they could have spent a little more time on.

So, in your opinion they should have been continually developing ever more new content for the game instead of focusing on getting it shipped. lol, ok.

The knees thing is on alot of the massive armors, not a fan of that piece either. What would have been cool is have the smith in redcliffe, or Wade be able to 'customize' armors.

You can an armor to them, can't change the major bits but you can edit certain parts. Like make the blue a red color, or swap the weird knee pads for something neater. Nothing major like turning the chest-piece into a tank-top lol, but the details of it.

I prefer a more authentic look over flashy-looking armor, but I think the artists and modellers did a great job with what's currently in the game. For me it's more a matter of personal taste and more variety. The higher-tier gear is great for the utility but it's an added bonus when you find a new armor or weapon model that you haven't seen yet, and it would be nice to have some different outfits to distinguish rogues from warriors a bit more. I was a bit disappointed that the custom-made armors (Wade's) look the same as the others.

I was pretty upset there wasn't any real black armor. [excepting Legion of the Dead] Hopefully someone will make some.

edit: http://www.dragonage...file.php?id=184

black templar armor thought some might enjoy.

Winters Forge Mod is possibly the best mod made for DA due to the ability to choose different models and materials. I have a few sets of armor made with properties from the Dragon Armor but using much nicer looking models.

Still even with Wintery Forge you must turn to mods to get anything out of the norm available with DAO.

DAO nexus has some decent stuff. High Res Blood Dragon Armor with a BLACK visor, Black Templar armor with a Black Grey Warden Helm, etc etc.

Kudos to the modding community... Bioware take note! More variety!

The helm is called duty...

But Once again, I wish I could get mods like that for appearance/colors onto xbox... I don't have the money to be upgrading my old computer to run new awesome games lol.

I agree with this and if they really don't want to bother, atleast release importing/exporting model tools for the toolset...

Just have a look at the Oblivion nexus (Tesnexus), you get a huge variety, ranging from the Lich King's Armor, to Assassin's Creed Altair's robe.

It's a fantasy game, some epic grandeur armor, along with some epic swords would be necccesary, eg. They did a great texture job for Starfang only to ruin it with the same models
