Kind of like how people are exaggerating how the last 5 minutes of a franchise ruins an entire series.
A shame it's not an exaggeration.
Sure it isn't.
Whatever makes you people sleep at night.

Grave-sounding narrator: Did you know that BSN fans EAT BABIES! They want to corrupt your children with their fund to buy evil video games for hospitals. And it is no secret that there are women among their number, and girls don't know anything about video games, Who do they think they are, beating up on poor, helpless multi-million dollar corporations? I didn't like Destin when he was with ScrewAttack and I definitely don't like him now.

Rather, I think they're getting more accurate. I hope you don't enjoy mouse heads in your milkshakes.

IGN: the reviewing website that scores games based on the throw of a die.
You expect anything worthwhile to come from there?
A throw of a die would suggest really bad games actually have a chance of being really bad. IGN(orance) scores games based on how much they're paid
$0-$999 = no review/really bad review
$1,000-$1,999 = 1/10
$2,000-$2,999 = 2/10
$3,000-$3,999 = 3/10
$4,000-$4,999 = 4/10
$5,000-$5,999 = 5/10
$6,000-$6,999 = 6/10
$7,000-$7,999 = 7/10
$8,000-$8,999 = 8/10
$9,000-$9,999 = 9/10
$10,000+ = 10/10

Kind of ironic seeing as it's people like Fox News that caused Bioware to have to be more reserved in their games.

It doesn't really matter, folks.
What matters to EA is whether or not this whole thing is going to hurt
their bottom line. Right now, tons of unhappy fans are most definitely
going to hurt their bottom line.
It won't because:
- By now EA/Bioware have already made a profit from the game
- Most of the fans claiming they will boycott them, won't.
- People may hate them right now, but they love the series and will still buy the DLC's.

The reason it can, and in some cases does, is because knowing how it ends the way it does makes you feel there is no point bothering.
Take Mass Effect 2 for example, Suicide Mission implies it's not going to end well, Shepard and the team risk the odds on the chance they will succeed. They know the odds are slim, but they know it's worth the risk, it's still worth trying on the off chance you might win.
In Mass Effect 3 we don't speculate that we will fail in the end, we know it.
We all know that the choices we make in ME1 don't matter.
The choices we make in ME2 don't matter.
The choices we make in ME3 don't matter.
No matter what we do, no matter how many hours we play or how much effort we spend, we will always end up failing, regardless.
The Reapers are gone, true, but it doesn't matter because the entire galaxy is still f**ked regardless. That isn't
bittersweet, because there isn't any positive.
Shepard is alive? Not for long, we can speculate but if it's down to that it's not exactly a positive.
Some crew survive. Yes, on an unknown planet, which we don't even know if it can support life.
That's the closest we get to anything remotely happy, and in either situation it's purely down to speculation on whether any good comes of it.
An example of how an ending can ruin everything:
You get a girlfriend/boyfriend.
You have a fantastic relationship, you get on great, enjoy each others company, your life together could barely be better.
This goes on for several years without an issue.
5 years down the line, out of nowhere your partner tells you they are leaving, no explanation, no warning.
You telling me the good thoughts of the better times are enough to make you happy?
I am not directly comparing the Mass Effect ending to a real life relationship, for those who don't like paying attention, I am using an example to explain why the ending of something can have a strong effect on how you perceive everything before it. The ending is the latest and freshest memory you have of an experience, and that's the one most likely to dictate your perception of it as a whole.
