I did some searching on my own but didn't
find anything the sounded exactly like what I had. I was playing the game fine
last night when I logged off to go do something else. When I came back my
desktop icon for DA:O was gone and when I attempted to launch DA:O it
would just load with the black screen and freeze. I'm not
computer savvy at all so I have no idea at all what to do.

Nothing you wrote sounded at all familiar, and I thought I'd wait to see if you worked anything out using the forum's available resources. Readership is quite low lately among experienced game players to offer suggestions.
It may not help, but the SOP here is to prepare a much more detailed kind of problem report than you provided. Look at Raen Imrahl's pinned sticky that starts with "Read First" and do what it tells you to do.
