Importing a character from ME2 who was a vanguard for about 3 missions and then became an adept (yay save editor). The reason I switched was because I was having a hard time getting up in the enemies faces without being gunned down before I knew it since I was usually outnumbered. Is it the same in Mass Effect 3? If so I'll probably stick to adept which I liked.

I am definitely liking Vanguard more in ME3 than ME2. Nova is one particular reason. The ability uses up your barrier and creates an explosion around you, but it isn't effected by power cooldown, so you can use it and instantly biotic charge somewhere else. The only shortcoming I've come across are using such abilities near Banshees or Brutes. Its a class more suitable to fight Cerberus troops because you can easily charge up to their line and let off super close range shotgun bursts. Then Nova and another Biotic charge (mostly to automatically recharge shields). I used Reave for a while alongside it, and it definitely helps by giving you a defense boost while Reave is in use, besides draining the health/shields of whatever you targeted. With a high enough recharge bonus, you can basically have reave always active.

Trust me, I was terrible with it in ME2, but the dynamic of combat changed in ME3. Now all you have to do is avoid charging turrets or the larger reaper baddies (like banshees and brutes).

Easy? I'd call it AWESOME.

Plus, the range on charge is ridiculous.

The one time I was legitimately frustrated with playing as a Vanguard in ME3 was the final "boss" battle on Earth.

Nova makes Vanguard too easy at times. I'm currently breaking away from using it, saving it for times where I'm swarmed with no exit.

Even with Nova, Vanguard is still beastly do to Charge Spam. My currently play style is to make Vanguard a "Biotic Soldier." I use charge to reposition myself on the battlefield and my bonus power of choice is Reave.

I can say after experimenting, that Reave is easily the best bonus power for a Vanguard. Not only does it set up and detonate biotic explosions, but it does crazy damage to armor and barriers and gives you damage reduction comparable to barrier.

Vanguard, hands down. on my NG+ between reave/dual pull, and BC/Nova, and shockwave I have no need for companions at all XD

On Mp it's different, and should be used sparingly XD

Adept. Its not to say Vanguard isnt fun, it is. Problem is its soo overpowered and essentially 1 dimensional (CHARGE!) that it becomes boring. there is more thought involved with the adept in comparison. Then again lots of people like OPered classes and facerolling their way through combat. Just my opinion your mileage may very.

My favorite is the adept. The vanguard is just too easy once you learn how to use the nova+charge combo. As an adept I take stasis for the bonus power. It is very satisfying to lockdown and headshot those jumpy phantoms.

I don't like either. I would say play who you enjoy most. I like Adept more, the Vanguard is a bit too scrubby for me, it has noob all over it and ironically enough, everyone who plays one online thus far in my games are horrible

I am surprised people say that Vanguard is too easy in a thread that compares it to Adept. I found Adept so easy to the point of being boring, so I am doing my third run on my Infiltrator O.o This is on Insanity.

Then again, a mission I found hard on Vanguard I found a piece of cake on Infiltrator.

I am not saying that Vanguard is hard, I am just pointing out that playing Adept in ME 3 seemed even easier to me.

Play Vanguard if you want to be invincible. Just spam Charge > Nova ( > Nova) > Charge and you cannot be harmed at all. Play Adept if you like boom, boom, boom, boom every 2 seconds (doesn't matter what powers you use, everything results in the same thing). Both classes were my favorites in ME2, but they have become really boring in ME3 - no challenge at all :(

vanguard is deffinitaly more fun, just pick insanity so that enemies won't die too quickly. you can both slap their faces in close combat and do explosions if you take Liara with you.

Vanguard in single player is extremely OP, especially with shotguns like the Disciple who weight next to nothing and do lots of damage - you can get your cooldown to a ridiculous rate in which you can charge, nova and then charge again immediately and basically become indestructible (except for banshee maybe with their annoying instakill grab), so either change game style or class.
In MP Vanguards extremely depend on the player - usually a vanguard will either be the top scorer to the point where everyone's annoyed cause the can't seem to get two shots before the vanguard kills everything... Or he's the lowest scorer and pretty much slows the team down, and needs constant res cause he insists on using charge and get surrounded.

Dunno why everyone says vanguard is too easy. Whenever i use nova i just die before my charge is back caus even ~900 shields are not enough...

Wtf am i doing wrong?

Charge smartly, and spam that button as soon as you hit Nova

Personally, I'm trying to do a Insanity run with a ME2 style vanguard (in ME3). I dislike what they've done with the vanguard in ME3

With Disciple rank... VII? And Vindicator X, I had 200% CD reduction, plus I used Inferno armour (30% power damage and 30% recharge time.) Although I get the feeling that CD reduction caps at 200% regardless so Inferno for the last couple of missions (when my weapons were upgraded that much) might have been overkill. Still get the power damage though. Gotta test that CD. Anyway yes, in the last mission I simply charged > novaed > charged without needing to wait like you said. The banshees at the very end were -really- frustrating though, sometimes they grab you, sometimes they don't.

However I found that Adept's total control and skill spam wasn't much harder.

For MP... I played both as Vanguard and played as non-Vanguard with another one in my team. I totally relate on all counts. When I don't play Vanguard I get annoyed when some Vanguard type kills all the stuff I was about to kill. Bit less annoyed if I set up a kill with a singularity. I would love to finish it with a warp, but if a Vanguard kills it with a charge I still contributed. And the Vanguards that charge when the mob you are killing is at 1% HP are extremely irritating. Just as much as Infiltrators who snipe at 1%.

Or when I play Vanguard sometimes I wonder if people get pissed at me because I am all over. Aside from when I am having my off-day and I keep dying. That irritates ME just as much.
