..because I've never ever seen it hit harder on spellcasting enemies, nor seen them stop spellcasting as if all their mana was drained.<_<
Is Holy Smite bugged?

Yeah, for some reason, enemy casters can still cast after their mana is drained. It's all really cheaty and unexplainable.

I think the problem is that the draining isn't working correctly.
1. They don't take any more damage from the ability than regular mobs.
2. They can still cast spells.
If the ability was working they should take a bucketload more damage and not be able to cast spells..

AFAIK the damage of Holy Smite is influenced by caster Willpower and it's like a standard spell, looking at the code.
Standard being something like (100 + Willpower modifier) * (some number between 0 and 1).
(Note most spells would use the caster's spellpower in place of Willpower modifier)
The result of that calculation being base damage, we'll call it number (A).
Then, using a separate but identical calculation, we determine the amount of mana drained, resulting in a number we'll call (
.
Mana user targets have (
mana removed from their pools.
Then, we take a portion of (
, add it to (A), and that's the total damage inflicted on casters.
I think non-caster targets just take (A) damage.
Thus, as you can tell from the formulae, the mana drain really won't exceed 100 or so, and even that is really unlikely. Looking at your own casters, losing 100 mana definitely won't stop them from casting spells, which is why you're noticing enemy casters seemingly able to keep going as usual.
This mechanic is unlike the Mana Clash spell, however, which *only* affects casters, is guaranteed to drain *all* their mana, and which then inflicts damage based on a portion of the mana drain.

But if it successfully drained the enemy Mage of 100-or-so mana, he should take more damage. There is no difference in damage whatsoever on targets with mana and targets without.

I think the problem is that the mana drain works, and the damage-per-mana-drained function does nothing at the moment. They definitely do not take extra damage if they are drained of any mana from this strike.

Er...note that the mana drained is given by:
(100 + Willpowermod)*0.4 = 40 + 0.4*Willpowermod
And that the extra damage based on this value is given by:
(Mana Drained) * 0.5 = 20 + 0.2*Willpowermod
So you actually don't drain more than 60-70 mana, and the increased damage is no more than 30-35 due to that drain.
The base damage is given by (100 + Willpowermod)*0.2 = 20 + 0.2*Willpowermod.
So you don't do more than 30ish damage at base.
Most people should see 20-40 damage on noncasters and 50-70 damage on casters. The code looks okay to me, it's basically identical to Mana Clash, which works just fine from what we're seeing on the forums haha.

No.. something is very wrong... Holy smite does nothing (throwing a soulrot bomb would do more damage), Mana Clash does in the thousands of HP of damage. Both of them are broken.

Hmm, it was working fine against me. I rmb my encounter with possessed templars, and I got totally pwned. Got killed instantly after getting two hits of Holy Smite. In the end, I reloaded, turn on every active skill I have to keep my mana pool low and ended up have half my HP gone, got stunned for good, but at least I survived.

Holy Smite works as intended: it is not bugged. It uses Willpower so it requires an high score in Willpower to work as intended (I mean, damage and mana drain are not that great but the stun is good and lasts very long).
It's difficult to trigger it against mage bosses, because their willpower is high, I suppose.
Having said that, for my characther I invested moderately in Willpower and tried to pump it as more as I could with items. Now, I have something like 36-37 points in Willpower (bonus included) and I must say that it allways stuns white/yellow mages and from time to time it has worked against mage bosses (for example, I stunned the Tevinter imperium Mage at the end of the elven alienage quest). It allways stuns mobs (like 99%).
Since I prefer to play with 1 mage in the party, I find it very useful (especially cause tanks have nothing better to do in the first moments of the battle).

No it does not work as intended, at least not on the 360 version because the difference in damage against casters and non-casters is non-existent.

I don't know if it is bugged or not, but it's not really useful anyway. The stun could be nice, but it's so damn expensive to activate it, it's not worth it. I'd much rather take the knockdown-effect on warcry than holy smite.

Berserk->DWS->Whirlwind->Smite->grenade survivors. I tear through things so fast on nightmare it's hilarious.
