The issue was never that the game isnt completely amazing. The game itself is on a level of epic never before seen in video games, it is absolutly astounding. However the ending doesnt do the game justice.
I'll give an example. Imagine you are reading the Harry Potter series, probably the single most successful book series of all time. The whole series builds upon Harry's schooling and prepares him for his inevitable showdown wth Lord Voldemort. Finally after many years of planning, preparation and anxiety, the time has come for the final showdown. Harry preps his wand, grab his other various wizardy artifacts and steps out into the street. Harry gets hit by a truck and dies. As a result you find out that the real villain was Captain Hook who then makes Voldemort give up his quest for world domination.

The issue isnt about creative freedom. It is about the fact that the ending is disjointed and doesnt make sense in context to the current story. Its not a matter of whether Shepard lives or dies, its a matter of having the conclusion of the story being at least on par with the rest of the game. I constantly praised the writing in this game to my friends. Have even given this game the highest "score" I have ever given in a review. However with the current ending, the players just feel ripped off. And rightly so!

Hey, I thought Alan Wake's ending was terrific and most fitting! DLC didn't "retcon" it, it merely provided a better explanation.

I'm all for Inception like muddled, ****-soullery and way past clean cut endings. My ideal end has the protagonist in a coma within a dream with a gun to his head and all his friends missing or unknown, just like the hard life that's made me pick on entitled geeklords for my personal amusement.

It's dreadful I tell thee.

We'll see you back in another 25-30 hours of gameplay.
As for the others you'll get only 1 footlocker.

Sorry.. I can't take anyone with "69" in their username seriously. Plus, I disagree. Talk again when you beat the game.

Finish the game, please.

And to those who have some strange sense that BioWare's ending is sacrosanct:

Fans have every right to demand a better ending if they so desire. Not only that, but the company has every right not to listen. The fans, currently, are saying that if BioWare doesn't fix this, then they won't buy future content.

The retake masseffect movement isn't demanding the game be completely overhauled. We just find the ending, as a product, full of shoddy writing, plotholes, and (after looking at developer pre-release quotes) a far cry from the product we expected.

If anything we are trying to address these issues because we love BioWare as a company, and desperately wish for them to correct a mistake so they can retain a loyal fanbase.

ACD was an absolute **** as a writer. The only good thing he did, was kill old 'Lock. And then what happens? Bold new literary work? Nope, fanboy pandering. Chubby goths win AGAIN and art stays mired in 15 year old cliches. Wa-hey.

PS Writing "smart" phenomena into detective stories does NOT make you a de facto good writer, mind you. Character development, plotting and emotional involvement were simply nonexistent in the Holmes books.

I like how the OP name calls, judges, and is generally ignorant and not tolerant. Dude, it's a game.
Chill

Just because people have strong feelnigs and opinions, doesn't mean you have to start getting all angry and become hateful and name calling.

Here's the deal, and I think that this is a common misconception. I completely gat where you are coming from. When I was four hours along, I felt exactly the same. 60 hours in, as I approached the finale, I turned to my wife and gushed about how epic and amazing the whole game was. I convinced her to watch as I beat the game.

She was almost as horrified as I was. This couldn't be the same game I was playing before. It was as if someone had swapped the last reel of a film with one from another movie.

I am not entitled to a new ending. It is.not my right to get one. But I think the game would be better off with a new finale, and I know it would do wonders for my faith in Bioware.

Hold the line.

You made me chuckle.
Throwing around stereotypes like that and not even presenting a valid argument, and even more so you haven't even beaten the game yet.

I'm not even gonna argue with you, as you clearly have no idea what we stand for.

Hey, everyone's looking to paint the Retake Movement from that guy who filed the complaint to the FTC, have a look at the kind of people that like the ending!

You folks never seen Blade Runner, I assume?

Because the artistic vision of the original cut was pretty awful. That's why they re-cut it when people said "hey, Philip K. Dick called, he wants his story back."

Hell, half the reason Blade Runner still has such a cult following is because it's still echoing with the "what the hell did you do to the ending!?" debacle.

I'm only  4 hours into the game and loving it. I'm also, aware, because I do not live in a cave, that the only natural ending it can have, is Shepard dying (This is not a spoiler, as I have no clue as to what the actual ending is like, but death feels like the only right end.)

I always feel pity the people who come onto this forum, complain about people complaining about the ending and then for some reason proudly boast they haven't finished it yet but  state that they're going to be fine with the ending whatever it is.

I felt like that before I finished it. I was absolutely convinced that it just HAD to be an overreaction, surely? The rest of the game was absolutely awesome, the writing top notch and gameplay excellent. Surely it couldn't be SO BAD that people were genuinely saying it ruined the entire series for them. It had to be hyperbole, right?

Then I actually finished...and I took my place alongside my brothers in arms to help hold the line.

You dont understand there is people who dedicated them selfs for a perfect ending starting from Mass Effect 1 those hours of gameplay and time deserve something better than that ending itself u have to see why people demand a new ending am saying people who spent most of there time trying to get that perfect ending deserve and it was a bad ending to end a trilogy as well

Actually, I do have to finish the game first, I concede to that. I have not read any interviews and have no real expectations about the ending, except for what the game will make me expect while playing it. If I reach the end and it all falls apart like a 13 year old anime masturbator's day-dream, I'll happily eat my own words but again, NOT sign a petition.I'll just tell everyone that Bioware aced 99% but didn't have the stones to bring it's epic all the way home.

For people to complain that it wasn't "as heroic as they expected" is utterly, astonishingly idiotic. While at it, boycott your favorite musicians. Tell them to only write X types of songs because you only like THEM. Hell, mail your favorite authors about writing ONLY ABOUT THINGS YOU LOVE! Let's kill ALL creative freedom and just petulantly stomp our feet and beg for our nerdy white blubberbellies to be pandered to.

Are you serious?

I am not a forum poster. I will most likely not return to chek replies on this thread, but as a fellow artist, I wanted to give the team my heartfelt support and congratulations and tell them to not change one iota about their masterpiece.

Whiners and geeklords, fat goth chicks and nude modders, burn in hell, you subnormal bunch of self-serving dweebs.

No matter how compelling your argument is, shut your god damn face until you have finished the game.
