All I want to do is ask a question about this game. I'm at the point where I need to go to the Elven Alienage and the map is grayed out and I can not travel there. How do I get this question answere?

You have to manually travel to most areas before you can fast travel there. The entrance is through the Market District.

Yep you need to go to the main entrance of the alienage in the Market District.
