Voice acting is definately better, the lesbian thing is interesting, and I guess I just find it more attractive to watch Femshep run around saving the world than... Maleshep?

I'm so old hand at Femshep at this point that I actually get thrown a bit whenever I see commercials or youtube videos with male Shepard because I don't expect him  :P

Meer as broShep has gotten quite good after 3 games. But because I've played the games since ME1, when Meer was pretty deadpan, I just continued with femShep. As far as I'm concerned she's canon Shepard. \\o/

Plus she was also Mazzy Fentan, a valiant servant of justice and righteousness. :0

Female character that I can customize in a story driven game?   If there was anything that attracted female gamers to ME1, that would be it.

Yeah, I get pretty depressed when I remember he's not real.

I'm not trying to hate on people for choosing a female character, but I don't understand why such a large percentage of players do in comparison to other games.

Think Skyrim. I almost never see female characters, I've watched tons of videos of it.
Or WoW (hold the rage, please). More females, perhaps, but not that many more.
Even Dragon Age: Origins lacked them.

Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect seem to have an oddly high number of female characters. I've heard the voice actor for FemShep is great, but honestly I find the male one to be equally as great, if not better.

So why, She-pards, did you make that choice? Do you think the voice acting is better? Lesbian scenes/staring at dat ass?

Um, some of us happen to be girls.

I always thought Jennifer Hale tried to sound too emotional about everything. I always liked that Meer could turn up the emotion in his voice and keep it at a level when he needed to. Plus, I think Hale sounds like a teenage girl trying to sound like a 30-year-old woman. I did try playing as FemShep once in ME2 and just couldn't get into it.

Because Hale is 3x the VA Meer is.

Or, rather, she was 3x the VA Meer was at the beginning of the series. Meer has gotten a ton better over the course of the games, and in ME3, I'd still give Hale the edge, but its pretty close.

(Also I saw more female characters in WoW than I did male characters).

1. I'm female.
2. Jennifer Hale is awesome.
3. Because as much as I like male Shep, Mark Meer didn't really do it for me until ME3. I do have a male Shep play through now.

I haven't really noticed it in this thread (most have been pretty good about it), but another reason I never liked FemShep was because of the fans of FemShep. I always felt some of them were condescending towards people who liked playing with a male Shepard.

Well first off I'm a lady and the ability to play as a badass kickass woman with a personality makes me extraordinarily happy. Second, I do think Jennifer Hale does a better job than Mark Meer (though I heard some clips of him in ME3 that made me intrigued enough to do a broshep run through 2+3 later) Three I like the dynamic between Femshep and the other characters (personally my main shep Romances Liara and is Biffles with Garrus). Forth How many sci fi games/books/movies/tvshows star awesome women leads? Some but not as many as star men, it's cool to have a different experience.

I've already answered a few pages back why I play FemShep (Jennifer Hale, and in general preferring to listen to female voices), but a few notes to your post.

First of all - and I could be wrong of course - I imagine there's a pretty good chance more male than female players record their gaming sessions and upload to YouTube (and in any case it's a tiny fraction of all the players).
And the specific reason why three of the games you mention - Skyrim, DA:O and WoW - may in fact actually have a lot less "fan support" behind their female character options than ME and DA2, is quite likely because those three former games don't have full voice acting for their protagonists (outside of some grunts and yells for combat etc.) whereas ME and DA2 are voiced by two rather amazing voice actors, Jennifer Hale and Jo Wyatt respectively (after also hearing Jo Wyatt's fantastic performance as the female agent in SWTOR I now like her as much as Hale).

Me too. It's weird. ME commercial or video starts, and then ManShep appears and I have this momentary disconnect.

This is so true. Though I also get thrown whenever I see a FemShep with a different face than mine...

Two reasons- The first is the same reason my DA character is female, which is that it's still a novelty for me to play a game with a female lead. They're getting more common, but they still aren't as prevalent as male leads. Second is that I prefer Hale as a voice actor by a country mile over Meer.

Agreed.

And, yeah, Hale is a better VA.  I can only remember one line from the original ME that Meer voiced better than Hale ("because it's a big, stupid jellyfish").  He did a good job of timing, spacing the words out to really give it impact.

Other than that, though, Hale has him beat hands down.

Deleted my post and going to just make a simple explanation instead of a semi long one.

I like femShep, a lot of people do, what more reason do they need?  You never see multiple threads appearing asking why people play manShep, the reason for playing femShep are the same, its just different people with different tastes.

Well played. XD

As for me, I will admit that I decided to go with FemShep because I was going to be staring at an ass for most of the game, and the Hawt Bloo Sexytiems with Liara, but I kept playing FemShep because I find Jennifer Hale's delivery of the dialogue much more emotionally affecting than Mark Meer's.
