I'm a girl and I actually played as a male shepard in my main playthrough because I wanted to romance Ashley and then Miranda/Jack. If you could romance them as femshep I would never play as a male shepard.

At first I only played as male Shepard because I'd seen all my friends play as fem Shep which ruined it for me. But I started an ultimate play through of all 3 games as fem Shep recently and actually ended up liking her voice acting more than male Shep. Though I still find male Shepard's delivery of renegade dialogue way funnier than female Shepard's for some reason. I think it's just the way Mark Meers delivers his lines lol.

Originally because In my teen years I was obsessed with Masume Shirow's Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell and came to really prefer strong female protagonists.

Later it was Hale's voice work was just beyond the pale epic.

Yeah, the hot blue girl lesbian thing was right up there too.

I never implied that girls don't game. But I don't think many more females are going to play this game than another.

I'm not saying building a female character is a deadly sin, just curious as to why.

Well your basis is wrong to begin with, there are a TON of female characters played for Skyrim and Dragon Age.
The only ones where you really don't, especially in RPGs, are games that force a male character. *glares at Gothic and The Witcher*

And lots of the remarks tend to be about the ass, so that pretty much confirms that it isn't because a lot more female gamers chose ME3.

No, it pretty much confirms that people are messing with you.

Think Skyrim. I almost never see female characters

Funny enough there are more mods for females in Bethesda games.  Also, I play a female in that game because you get advantages against the opposite sex and most vendors/enemies are male. O_O

Also femshep has different LIs than the male does.

1 reason: Jennifer Hale.

Not that I think Mark Meer does a bad job, quite the contrary.

Also, playing as a female Infiltrator is the closest I'll ever get to playing that cancelled Starcraft: Ghost game.

Jennifer Hale's voice acting. Very good stuff. You can really get entranced listening to how she does some of the lines. Of course, I think Meer did just as good a job for the most part.

I can tell you one reason I don't play FemShep is so I don't get lumped in with these people.

But really, I didn't like Jennifer Hale's performance. I did a FemShep run through ME1 and wasn't blown away. That being said, I could never play M!Hawke. Lady Hawke all the way.

Certain sexes just feel better for certain games.

Because I'm girl and I like playing as my gender? How is this weird compare to people that play as females just to see some lesbian actions?

And Jennifer Hale's VA is awesome.

My Skyrim character is a female human Imperial; my wow character was a female durin my trial run. My Grey Warden was a female Cousland. My Fallout3 character was a girl as well. Anything else you wanna me to cover?

My personal motto is "If I have to stare to the ass of a character for an untold number of hours, please let at least be a female character!"

Jokes aside whenever I have the possibility I always make a female character, in every videogame.

I love the Honor Harrington books (David Weber, military sci-fi, awesome!). And she's a strong female character. I like both genders of the Shepard character, but the female version seems to get more of the angst of being a commander that has to make difficult decisions regarding life and death of her squadmates, the war effort and ultimately the fate of the galaxy (in whatever version/ending there might be).

It boils down to personal preference, really.

Yeah, definitely!  My femShep's choices is patterned VERY closely to what I think Honor Harrington would do.

I tried to make a Shepard that looked similar to Honor, but couldn't get the slight asian cast to her features like Weber  talks about in the book.  Didn't work very well.  Oh well....

Pretty much this. But does this have anything to do with Story and Campaign discussion? (there are other parts of the forum)

THIS..

And also the fact that I play through both genders anyway, so femshep just happens to be my first choice.

I play most RPGs with female characters.  Actually, I'll play any game with a female character when I get the option.  Throw in that Jennifer Hale is an incredible VA and I love her work and I strain to handle Mark Meer's dialogue even on YouTube (though he's gotten *MUCH* better since ME1).... plenty of reasons to go FemShep

"Think Skyrim. I almost never see female characters, I've watched tons of videos of it."
You will have to take that comment back LOL there are tons and tons of people who play female characters in Skyrim. I don't really know why but it occurs to me most female gamers do not make playthrough video much. And hmm ... referring to my fellow female gamers, they play male characters if they can make pretty guys in the game, because ... gay is hotter for many girls (like lesbian is hotter for guys). Since ME's broshep is very .. manly, I guess we prefer playing femshep.
Personally, I tend not to play male character in RPG (especially SP) because of immersion. Oh, I'm female in real life.

Did you ever consider that women play video games too or...?

Exactly.

My Shepard is black. Wanna ask about that too? :bandit:

So is my FemShep. :)

ME is interesting in that way too. A lot of people of color represented in the ME universe, as compared to most games. It was awesome watchin' Keith David and Shamar Moore (My Shepard turned out lookin' like a Shamar Moore / Famous Jett Jackson mashup. LMAO) have a heart to heart about savin' the galaxy at the end. The END. The moments following Anderson's death are invalid on account of because.
