Lol at nr.3 ?

I know it is your opinion, but guys can't be cool military heros?

If anything it is femshep that is unrealistic in that scenario....

Why exactly is femshep unrealistic?

Action women are win/win. They're so badass.

Also to play female is interesting for me. Sick of male leaders.

Also when you're allowed to play female it usually means more customization, and I love that.

Oh, and Jennifer Hale is a Goddess.

Because... she kicks ass... and looks good doing it.

It would be nice if they gave more unquie  dialogue... so she actually feels like a different character.

Better VA work. Meer did his best work to date in 3 (and good for him!), but I was with Hale from 1.

Seriously though I play as Femshep because I like to see strong female leads in any media, thats the reason I like Buffy the Vampire Slayer so much. Plus after all three games my Shepard is female and always will be. I tried replaying the first game as Male shep but it felt wrong.

I'm not too keen on his weird assumption that everyone is male.

Or that female characters are mostly played by dudes.

Um. What.<_<

In your opinion, as a woman.

And in my opinion as a man. Women have had to work twice as hard as men, especially in the military. If you can hack it out in the most hardcore, male dominated career, you earn my respect.

I think people misinterept the original comment. I'm pretty sure what was meant is that women have had to work hard to be noticed and recognized by a lot of old-school thinking organizations. Men don't have to work as hard to be accepted into that kind of thing. A lot of male gamers who laugh at military women are a primary example of that.

Yes heaven forbid there be a society in the future that gives the same opportunities in the military that it gives to men. I mean the mass relays and the blue alien race of all females and the cosmic robot killers from beyond the stars, that's okay. But a female soldier-hero and leader? Ridiculous.

I'm not trying to hate on people for choosing a female character, but I don't understand why such a large percentage of players do in comparison to other games.

Think Skyrim. I almost never see female characters, I've watched tons of videos of it.
Or WoW (hold the rage, please). More females, perhaps, but not that many more.
Even Dragon Age: Origins lacked them.

Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect seem to have an oddly high number of female characters. I've heard the voice actor for FemShep is great, but honestly I find the male one to be equally as great, if not better.

So why, She-pards, did you make that choice? Do you think the voice acting is better? Lesbian scenes/staring at dat ass?

Because I'm a woman. Few games let me play as my own gender and Femshep is the reason I picked up Mass Effect in the first place.

And Jennifer Hale's performance is worlds better than Mark Meer's.

I'm male and chose Male Shepard for all my ME games.

Purely because of Role playing Purposes and because it's easier to identify with the game if I see myself being Shepard. Also because I wanted to Romance Tali in my main "canon" playthrough and Liara/Miranda in other less important playthroughs.

I wanted to play my Insanity run of ME3 as a level 1 Adept FemShep... I honestly wanted to... But I just couldn't. That ending effectively won't let me enjoy the SP part of the game...

Jennifer Hale is one of my favorite voice actors, in any medium.

That said, my main character is male Shepard.

Because the whole game seems better suited for a female lead, as opposed to GoW for example which theme seems better suited to a male lead..

And having played through ME3 twice I can honestly say the conversation differences are way better with the female lead, and oh the dreams with the kid. I find it more interesting when I can, from a male PoW, pretend its the motherly instincts haunting Shep and the emotional attachment to the kid, doesn't feel quite as forced as with the male lead.

I play female in all the games you mentioned, cause I'm a female. Plus, Bioware recognizes you are female more than other gaming companies. Games like Skyrim if you are playing FP, you don't even remember what your character looks like after awhile.

I totally agree with this.  One of the first things that made me fall in love with Bioware was that they actually acknowledged women rather than just tossing us in as an after-thought.  I've played many games as a male character (because I had no choice) and enjoyed them; I just prefer to feel acknowledged as a female gamer.

Also, I don't like male Shepard's voice at all.  It's just a personal preference.

In Mass Effect 1 the voice actor for Male Shep just irritated the heck out of me. I couldn't stand it, so I played FemShep and haven't changed because now shepard is just female to me.

I played as male Shepard up until now. Couple of days ago i started to play as femshep, and I must say it does not change it for me. I still like the character, still identify with the hero. I dont really have a strong opinion on who is a better VA, but i kinda find it quite fun listening to the dialogue of femShep with others

Play fem chars in most RPG's, as long as the game isn't patronizing about it. Jennifer Hale's VA in ME is superior, which makes it an easy choice. I like watching femshep kick ass.

Ah yeah. Hmm, still less probable looking through history then. Not that many. *

Just saying biologicly men have the advantage :) 20-40% more strength, more coolheaded in rough spots.

Edit: In general, before someone ****es about it.

I'm a guy, and in my opinion, the big tough alpha male hero is overdone to the point of boringness. I don't try to relate to the characters I play, I see them as the characters of a story, and the story of an ass-kicking lady is invariably more interesting to me. Ever since I was a kid, any game that I got the chose the gender of the main character, I've chosen female (excepting dwarves) They just make for more interesting stories.

It doesn't hurt that Jennifer Hale did an amazing job,
