Ok, I understand I'm probably courting disaster here, but I
just finished the game and I wanted to add my thoughts to the pool about the
game and the endings. I understand that a lot of people will take a look at
this and say "TL:DR" and that's fine. I just hope that if you want to
comment, you'll at least read through the whole thing before telling me I'm
wrong or whatever.

Overall, I was extremely satisfied with the game. Throughout the whole thing, I
regularly saw the consequences of my choices throughout the entire series. This
must have been a MASSIVE undertaking and BioWare should be commended for it.
That said, let me talk about the endings.

I'm a completionist. I have a need to do everything in a game I'm invested in.
I can't remember the last time I was this invested in a series. I got every
resource possible while staying true to my version of Shepard. When it was time
for the final assault, I had a massive armada composed of nearly every
spacefaring race in the galaxy (except those prissy Salarians, but I'll take
the Krogan over them any day). I'd heard the screaming about the endings but I
tried to go in with an open mind.

I thought that the entire final mission was excellently done. I was on the edge
of my seat trying to get Shepard those few more feet to the transport beam. My
heart was pounding in my chest when I talked down the Illusive Man. I felt a
swell of emotion when Shepard dove into the center beam of the Crucible. Yeah,
I took the "green" ending. And I was VERY satisfied with it.

I've been hearing people complain that the final choice and subsequent ending
sucked because it rendered all of your previous decisions irrelevant. I
completely disagree. In my opinion, the final choice was not supposed to be the
resolution of all your previous actions. It was one final tough decision for
the fate of the galaxy. That is the ONLY thing that should have mattered there.
Shepard needed to look at the entire picture, weigh all his options and make
the choice that would benefit everyone the most. Despite the main two options
being "blue" and "red", they were not inherently good or
evil. They were two viable solutions based from two equally viable viewpoints.
Doing the extra work to get the third choice was completely worth it to me.

I think people need to realize that (as previously stated) the final choice and
the ending were NOT the culmination of your previous actions. The actual result
of that was the assault to take back Earth. THAT is where all your hard work
comes to fruition. Every mission, every choice, every peace brokered or race
destroyed comes to a head there. The assault on Earth can go VERY differently
based on how you got there. Did you save the Krogan? Did you get the Quarians
and Geth to make peace? Who survived all of your previous missions? THAT is the
moment where it matters. The final mission moves forward from there. You've
already seen the result of your actions. There is no reason to show it again.
The final choice and ending is meant for Shepard alone.

Now, I won't say that I wouldn't have liked a bit more
closure for the rest of the team. Or rather, the scene of the Normandy crash
landing seemed to be a bit random. I got Joker and EDI together, so when Joker
stepped out, EDI followed and they stared off into space together. This was
very nice and touching, but then Ashley followed them out. I found this a bit
odd, since Ashley and Liara were with Shepard on the ground trying to get to
the beam. I'm not sure if this is supposed to mean that everyone survived
(given that the people who exit the Normandy seem to be somewhat random) or
that Joker somehow managed to pick them up (maybe Cortez found another
shuttle), but it also doesn't explain why Ash is completely uninjured. I'm
assuming that it's simply a matter of random people based on who's alive (and
Joker and EDI's relationship status). But I don't think that BioWare needs to
go back and change it nor do I feel cheated.

I really feel that Mass Effect 3 was incredibly powerful and the entire series
will stay with me for quite some time. I'll definitely be getting any DLC that
comes out for it, as I'm always up to revisit Commander Shepard. In all
honesty, I'm not sure I want DLC that changes the ending. Don't get me wrong,
I'd love to see a version of the green ending where Shepard can survive and go
back to Ash to make lots of neon Tron-babies, but at the same time, I think it
might diminish the impact of it. As it is, since apparently my entire crew
survived, I'm just going to assume that Ash was pregnant and that Liara used
her mind meld with Shepard at the end to also impregnate herself. Because MY
Shepard's story ends at the Citadel, but I like to think he left children
behind.

In any case, this is just my opinion of course. Some of you might agree and
some of you might tell me I'm a compete idiot. I'm ok with both. I just wanted
to get my thoughts out.
