I don't get the Thane thing...

But there was a pre-release rumor going around that one of the missions in Mass Effect 3 was helping Thane rescue some Hanar scientist hostages who were working on a cure. I don't know if this was ever planned or not, but like I said, it was a rumor.

This entire game is about making choices. If saving him would have some kind of consequence so it would be a difficult decision, it doesn't cheapen the story. Imagine if you had the choice to save him, but couldn't face the consequences and decided to let him die; that's even more heartbreaking than it is now because it was your decision.
Can you explain to me why changing this would somehow cheapen his character? People focus so much on his disease and his "epic" death. But his character wasn't good solely for dying! A lot of people loved him. Just as a lot of people love Garrus, Tali, Liara and the VS. And you'd better believe they'd be outraged too if they only had one conversation with their LI, an out of character and glitchy kiss, and then they died with no chance of saving them.
How can you guys support changing the endings if you can't support or at least understand why we want a better romance for Thane? Giving us more closure at the conclusion of the game cheapens and undervalues the "epic" ending, right? No... There were a lot of things wrong with the Thane romance BESIDES his death (his death isn't even our biggest complaint!) and there are a lot of things wrong with the ending. Why is it fair for you guys to want change for the ending but not understand that we want change for Thane, because his romance was so botched?
Please read what we're saying, and don't just assume that we're all crazy fangirls upset over his death. I *am* upset over his death, but it's not the reason I'm pushing for change. If you read our posts, you'll see the reasons why his romance was so messed up. We're not being as unreasonable as you think.

Thane had the most satisfying ME2 cameo in my opinion.
I agree, but I haven't carried over a female Shepard that romanced Thane in ME2 yet. For my characters that were just friends, I found his role to be fitting. I was pleasantly surprised when he showed up to fight Kai Leng.
I can understand the sentiments of the fans that did not want him reduced to essentially a walking codex entry on Kepral's syndrome. But I never felt that a cure would be appropriate. It's like the OP said- part of what makes him compelling as a character is that his time is running out. Other elements, like being a green badass, are covered by another character in ME3.

He charges at a guy with a sword... while holding a gun. Not even space magic can explain that forced idiocy.
That sort of nonsense is expected of anime, not dark science fiction epics.

I do understand why people who romanced him would have been upset, though.

Oh, and no one EVER comments on his death, including your Shepard. Except Kai Leng and Shepard's omnishank line. That's it.

I don't mind the death so much as I mind the part where his entire appearance is two conversations, one of which in inevitable deathbed, and there's no option to affirm the relationship, which means right after he dies, it's time to field uncomfortable flirting from your crew.

It could be worse, though. Thane could have gotten the Jacob treatment and knocked up some other woman regardless of whether you romanced him or not. Sigh. It still hurts.

Interesting. You're angry that your recent LI, with whom you cheated on your previous LI, cheated on you. Are you surprised?
Ok, that was low. I like Jacob, but like a lot of people just didn't find him that interesting as a character. Also, his nostrils are HUUUGE. You could park a frigate in there. Everytime my femshep talks to him, I'm afraid she's going to be sucked in and disappear.
Ahem. I mean, my sympathies on your disappointment. Jacob seems like a nice guy, cheating aside.
