In order to keep the website from falling over, we have disabled the forum search for the time being. We will bring it back once we get a scalable solution in place.

Well, I hope it doesn't make too much more work for you guys. Out of genuine curiousity, the number of views/posts really doesn't seem that significant (especially for a game launch of this magnitude ot comparatively to even large sites I've worked at running stock apps like vBulletin).
Is the site not displaying the views correctly, or is it actually unable to handle the current traffic. Because, if it's this bad today, when the official launch hits this thing is going down hard & fast.

the updates to the # of views was disabled over the weekend, as that was causing issues as well.

Don't mean to hark on you personally Jesse, since you've been so helpful, but honestly... who made the decision to switch over to a beta forum from a stable forum 2 days before release?
This seems like a disaster. Search is gone. Forum is slow-- took me 2 minutes to open this thread. Intermittent "this forum is closed for maintenance" messages. Posts don't show up, and sometimes double-posting. I saw one twelvepost. I'm getting SQL errors on the top of the page sometimes. Uploaded my character from the character creator 2 days ago, still hasn't shown up.
This social networking site may ultimately prove a good idea, but deploying a beta 2 days before launch? Really...

I concur. I know some of my posts are likely to come across less than civil, but it's the frustration at what's playing out here.
We've got a site that, quite apparently, is not ready for launch forcing users into it. Unless they're about to pull a rabbit out of their hats, it's going to be a disaster tomorrow.
I don't know why game companies can't make a true effort to support their fans. I ordered a CE, and our keys don't work on the web site? No one thought to themselves, hey let's double-check not screw over the people who paid a premium for the product?
But I sincerely appreciate your responses Jesse, it at least gives us hope that the issues will be resolved eventually.

The decision was made, we now have to deal with it.

Seriously.
I agree with Lacan, and I know you'll delete this post along with the others, but this site is awful.
Please bring back the old forum... if only temporarily

I agree, disabled search is highly inconvenient. You may find that the increase in postings that are simply repeats of old posts that could not be found using search creates a more hefty server load than leaving search active.
Oh well, you guys are doing good work but the decision to change the forum over right at release time (probably a management/marketing decision) was in error.

Whine away but never question progress, The site has always been in beta, just the fast growth of unexpected slowdown due to mass population of database tables has left strain of unforseen problems.
Losing search is better than a slow unresponsive site until they weed out the issues. You ever run a site with 250,000 peeps a day browsing and searching? Not fun watching your server go to from 1.00 load to 499.99 load and not know the exact reason.. Well, it happens and the only one way to find out is by doing it..

Whine away but never question progress,
Progress?
Since I tried to register 5 hours ago this site hasn't functioned properly yet. I still can't register my game. Posts still aren't showing up, and this forum apparently doesn't even know what posts are current. I open one browser window, and the last post is 3 hours ago. I open another and it's 1 minute. But when I click a thread, I'm told it's invalid.
It's a mess, and it's going to get worse as more people log in.

1 million actually, and yes it's an issue, but here's the problem. They knew this day was coming. Why wasn't more of this testing done further in advance. For this site to have such a wide variety of issues AND be the required authentication for the downloadables is asinine.

I did a stint at a digital archive that got over 16 million queries per day.
The point is this: you don't launch a beta website until it's not a beta anymore. At worst, it should be an optional mirror forum of the original. But to shut down the working original and funnel everyone to a broken forum... that is truly some epic decision-making failure.
And I feel sorry for Jesse, because he obviously has to deal with it even though it was a mandate from some higher-up.

I'm not sure where you get "2 days" from. The social site has been around since July with an ever increasing number of users.
