...has anyone even posted this yet? I'd think this piece of information is worth knowing about and discussing:

ps3.ign.com/articles/122/1221113p1.html

Earlier today, Dragon Age creative director Mike Laidlaw wrote on Twitter that the Dragon Age development team at BioWare is done working on Dragon Age II and "has fully moved onto The Next Thing."

As for what that "next thing" may be, Laidlaw added in a second tweet that "we'll be very actively looking for feedback on the next DA title, and will be showing the game more than before as it develops."

Meanwhile, executive producer Mark Darrah commented on his Twitter account that the team "did have plans for an expansion pack to DA2 but other DA opportunities came up." Darrah confirmed that the pack would have been called Exalted March and that "there were even shirts!"

Darrah also posted on BioWare's forums, confirming that the company is "moving the entire team's focus to the next phase of Dragon Age's future."

For now, there's no indication what the next Dragon Age project will be. While previous Twitter posts and interviews have pointed toward Dragon Age III, BioWare has not officially announced the project.

Until then, Dragon Age II's patch 1.04 has been released and you can read all about it in the full patch notes on BioWare's site.

Thoughts?

To reiterate my thoughts I'm sad that I won't get more closure on my Hawkes. To an extent DA2 was like 1 of the origins in DAO, it was like the beginning of Hawke's life.

A good thing, good news. This is what I hoped some months ago. DA3 is more important than Hawk's closure to me... lol. They can kill him in DA3, I hope they'll do that. I also hope he won't be too much present in DA3, he doesn't need to be in DA3 for the sake of it. Just give him a few sentences, a few cinematics and that's it. Don't waste my game again, Hawk ! haha !

Can't say I'm going to miss Hawke much - hell, I never even completely finished DA2. Tried really hard to like it and stay the course, but found it to be profoundly uninteresting and was seriously put off by all the changes they made from DA:O. Ended up going back and playing DA:O three times after getting maybe halfway through DA2's campaign.

And after this latest fiasco with ME3, I'm betting pretty much everything on DA3 now - if this game is a dud, I'm writing Bioware off as a lost cause. Try not to disappoint this time, guys.

Even though I refuse to buy anymore Bioware game unless they give us the real ME3 ending without the nickel and dime, I'm still kinda disappointed by this since I actually (leave me alone) liked DA2 quite a bit. Didn't LOVE it...but definitely enjoyed it. The characters are very likeable...although I still love Leliana so much more than Isabella...and Meryl proved to me that I actually can hate an elf.

I'm guessing that the novel Asunder, more or less covers the storyline for what would've happened in "Exalted March", so as long as there aren't any major lore tidbits we are missing out on, I'm really okay with it. The hype about DA2 is long gone, and not even the announcement of an expansion pack would reignite it.

It's a little sad that Hawke won't be getting any new adventures, as I had grown quite fond of the character and his circle of companions. I wish Bioware the best of luck in whatever next for Dragon Age and I look forward to my next trip to Thedas.

Hawke can still remain a main character of the series, we (probably) jsut won't get to play as him that much. They could easily keep him around, and just use his general personality (diplomatic, witty, aggressive) to determine his lines in future games.

I imagine whatever was in the expansion will be worked into DA3 to some capacity - but either way, I'm sure we won't miss out on the important parts of whatever it was they had lined up.

Based on Mark Darrah's comments that isn't going to happen.

Well, DA2 only set the stage for how Hawke became the most important person in Thedas. We never really saw what he did that made him so important... Im guessing "Exalted March" would've solved that, and any future DLC aswell. Alas, now we will have to hear it second hand, and through codex entries.

What? That we aren't going to play as Hawke, because that much is certain. But that he will appear in future games? That he will is almost certain aswell, at least in some capacity.

I would prefer a fully customizable character a la DA:O, origin stories and all. I'd imagine though that the origins would be significantly different from what we got in DA:O, and tie in more closely with the game's story and different factions at play (Templar and Qunari origins would be interesting).

That would actually be an improvement over DA:O, where the origins didn't impact the story quite as much as I'd have liked.

I'm more surprised they didn't announce this sooner, DA2 bombed pretty bad.

This is good news. As I believe any market for continued DLC/expansions to DA2 has dried up from the long duration and lackluster reviews of the product. They need to evaluate what they did wrong with DA2 and what was missing from the long list of things that Origins did right.

Side note: I believe this is partially related. I made a wish list for DA3 and am looking to see community involvement so that maybe we can garner the attention of some of the people making the decisions for DA3. Please stop by and leave your wish list for the future title.

Should we jump onto DA3 so quick? Unless Bioware fixes the whole crap with the ME3 endings, there won't even BE a DA3.

Honestly, I think this is bad. EA is probably going to try and have Bioware release DA3 sooner now, since they aren't working on the expansion anymore. I feel like DA3 won't be as polished as it could be once it comes out.

That, and we don't get to finish Hawke's story, which leaves me very unhappy. I want to conclude Hawke's story! He was so much more compelling then the Warden.

Considering how well both of the content DLCs were crafted, Legacy & MotA, I think the development of the ability of the team is very strong.  I do think they will succeed with DA3

I don't understand the point of announcing a project you don't intend to finish, but whatever. It's like saying "I was going to bake you a delicious chocolate cake, but I changed my mind".

What "other DA opportunities" could they possibly be talking about? Who makes the "DA opportunities" if not the people that actually make DA?

I also felt Hawke's story was much more interesting than the Warden's. His rise to prominence and the intrigue and politics surrounding it was a different kind of tale than one you usually hear in a fantasy game/story.I wanted to see more of that on an expanded level.

This. Fenris, Tallis and Merrill were the only normal looking elves in the game. The rest?.... :alien:

I don't care that the ended Hawke's story early at all. He has always been a generic blank slate to me. Since it's hard to get a feel of him since he can't really do anything other than make either diplomatic/funny/aggressive remarks on the story. It has always been Hawke matches the story, not the story matches Hawke. If that makes sense....

What i did care about is that they most likely ended most the companions' story early. Since they were the only reason for DA2 to get a replay from me in the first place, they better get some closure other than some random codex you find along the way in DA3.
