Think to Dune, and how personal shielding made guns practically useless and I see a slight logic in it.
He also had an upgraded phantom palm gun.

My initial post was not free from irony, I must say. What I wanted to say is that it really should have been more like this than having a corny hugely OVERpowered ninja in ME. I mean, Shepard fails in defeating him with her entire squad and even later he seems like a similar challenge than a reaper. Plus, he is the quasi "boss" - fight at the end of ME3 and thus the last "boss" you have to fight in a ME-game ever.
So lyssalu is right

Kai Leng is a b!tch. He would've died on Thessia if it wasn't for his plot armour.
Easily.
actually, he would've died on the citadel

well... they made the fact that he had 2 gunships there helping him.....
never really got why he could taunt Shep the way he did when he had some serious backup with him.

That's actually quite funny. "Yeah, I beat you, you bastard! With the help of my big brother, here!"Nightdragon8 wrote...

Also, he was beaten by a terminally ill drell. Which is hilarious.

This is hilarious, thank you! That's the way it should have been - instead him killing Thane

Kai Leng was an annoying addition. I could have done without him.
Yeah, Bioware are great at making antagonists that you love to hate (see Teyrn Loghain), but Kai Leng was one of those characters that made me want to just slap him every time he shows his stupid face. He's just so annoying.

Well I don't like him either (thus the thread) - but I think it's mostly because he is thrown right into my face in the third part of a trilogy and I don't know him as I don't read the books (hate a franchise to carry over different media, just not my thing).
And I don't like his stupid face and that he seems so overpowered. And jeez, why does he have to be asian AND a ninja, That is so .. Shows how much phantasy the writers had.

I love vanguard in boss fights, though I'm not quite sure how it worked...

please he is not a old adversary considering Shepard did not know who he was till they crossed paths on the citadel and Anderson had to say who he was.
an old adversary is someone someone you have been fighting for years like Harbinger or something but not a guy who plays with swords.

As a vanguard, all the fights pretty much went "YOUR SWORD IS NO MATCH FOR MY FISTS. WHO IS THE BEST N7 NOW? It's not yoooooooou."

The Vanguard is a BADASS! That is why you win against Kai Leng, because hes such a p-ssy!

THAT, by the by, was cool. I expected the rest of the fight to make me do it a few times. It did not. There was not facetime. There was Kai Leng and his shield wall of minions, and a lot of charging. D:
Vesir and the Shadow Broker got better treatment, as they both got to go toe to toe with Shepard alone, via the magic of cut scenes. And I liked that. It established them as real menaces, not just to the squad, but to Shepard. The ninja did not get that so much.
