I would say the rogue just because the Dirty Fighting and Below the Belt Tree seem like they'll be really useful in recreating a safe distance from enemies that manage to get too close. Well, maybe the Below the Belt tree isn't really necessary for that but I know I'm going to have fun doing that to enemies who invade my personal space ^,^

I've never had a backstab come up with a bow, besides look at the backstab animation. You are actually stabbing someone in the back, can't do that with a bow. and on the dirty fighting thing, for some reason my archers kept switching to a melee weapon when using the skill, not a big issue but it takes time while I'm running away to reequip the bow.

Rogues are better cause they get more bonuses to cunning. Which was a much need stat for archers. Arch dps was not only forces on the hit and crit percents. A good archer was needing armor pin. I build my archers always with high Dex and cunning. Which rouges got skills that would replace strength bonus for cunning. Making my cunning now count for str and cunning. Stam was meduim just for abiltys. Just like my mage. my archer was a glass cannon. Why need health when mobs where dead before they could hit my archer. Plus a rouge would not only get a single target stun to go on top of the archer aoe stun. The rouge had feign Death. Great abilty to drop agro and get back into to the fight killing alot of mobs. As well as specail builds like Assassin and Duelier added more damage to my rogue. Even if you only point on skill point into assassin the extra damage and dex assassin got where a nice bonus.

Rogues cannot backstab using arrows, but they get an auto critical when an arrow hits an enemy while the Rogue is coming out of stealth...which recharges quickly so you can use it again often for scheduled critical hits. I believe Arrow of Slaying can crit, so in theory, this same tactic should be usable with that Talent, but my current archer is still about three levels from snagging it.
Another cool trick: using stealth (Combat or Master level stealth) completely removes all aggro unless there's a fireball already seeking you out (or something similar), meaning you can ****** everything off, cloak, then do it again without taking a single hit. Stealth is great to have as an archer since you don't gain anything from the enemy being in your face.
