Dear Bioware:

I am among the people who were unhappy with the ending of Mass Effect. I must say, I actually loved the game all the way up to the last 5 minutes. Here are my problems with the game, starting with the most upsetting. Keep in mind, I don't have a problem with Shepard dying, and I don't buy the indoctrination theory.

#1: Why is Joker flying through a mass relay? The cutscene moved from the from the green, blue, red explosion, to the reaper retreat/destruction, to the mass relays going into overdrive, to Joker flying through the relays. When I saw this, it instantly killed all the awe I was feeling, and it made me think, WTF? This was supposed to be the battle to end all battles, why is Joker not fighting reapers. Which brings me to point number two.

#2 How did Ashley get on board the Normandy? Moments before I was fried by a reaper beam, Ashley was fighting right next to me. How did she go from being, what I assumed was dead, to being on the Normandy, in good health, while the relays were blowing up?

#3 What happens to everyone? I see that our romantic interest always shows up on the Normandy, but just because I chose Ashley as my Romance option, it doesn't mean that I don't care as much about Tali, Miranda, Jack, and Liara. They were all going into battle, so all of their endings were grim, but not predetermined, and given that Ashley made it safe onto the Normandy from the hell on earth surrounding the tower in London, who knows what could have happened to the others. Now if I chose to take control of the reapers, isn't it possible I would be able to use their senses to find these characters. Even if I don't choose that option, a cutscene or a text box (like Dragon Age) would have been very touching. Furthermore, I let the Rachni die so that my friend, Grunt, could live. At least show me what happens to him at the end.

#4 How about an option that doesn't involve destroying mass relays? My character did everything in his power to keep the galaxy in good working order. Destroying the relays would probably cause as much death as the reapers had caused so far in the game. I'm thinking all of those species around earth probably wouldn't find earth too hospitable. So I have no choice in the end but to doom thousands-millions to die.

#5 Why are all of the ending cutscenes virtually identical. Each ending is drastically different with very different reprocussions. Are you telling me that the ending where Shepard Kills all synthetic life deserves the same visions and graphics as the ending where Shepard creates a new Galactic reality of fusion? Normally I am super excited to replay the game to try and achieve different endings, but these endings leave no desire for replayability. Really I wasn't that upset about the ending until I went back to choose a different ending and realized that it was exactly the same with a different color.

Bioware, I have extreme faith in your company. I buy any game you produce because I know the kind of quality you put into the story line. However, this ending has really shaken my confidence. The endings seemed to be a product of laziness: "no we don't need to produce a new cutscene, just render the explosion a different color." This is extremely suprising given the amount of work you put into the rest of the game.
