Plays about a second of the bioware loading screen before freezing. Computer requires power reset so I do not receive any error message. The game worked fine yesterday after a reinstall, now the problem is back. Game is V1.02 though installation was done through origin which never decided the game was installed(though I played to feros from the origin games directory).
Specs:
Windows 7 64 Proffessional
I7 3820 3.6GHz
Asus Sabertooth X79 Mobo
HD7970 3GB factory overclocked @ 1000MHz GFX Driver: 8.921.5.0
16GB DDR3 1600MHZ
2TB HDD
RealTek audio 6.0.1.6458 drivers
Rig is obviously new so some issues aren't worked out. BUT the game was working. Put computer into sleep, tried again today and issue came back. Since the issue came back I've tried installing DX 9.0C manually which did not help. Tried compatability mode, disabling anti virus, running as admin etc.
Freeze on start-up issue returned after apparently being fixed by a reinstall

By reinstall, do you mean your OS or just the game itself (or both)?
In any event, I would first make sure you have all the necc. .Net frameworks installed. Direct X version doesn't matter since it's backwards compatible. What may be of issue is your newer ATI GPU driver. The newer graphics cards seems to be neglecting the graphic structure of older games. There probably isn't a driver you can roll back to since it's so new, but you may want to poke around some of the ATI forums to see how others have dealt with it, or if there's a patch/ alternate driver somewhere.

Basically I had this issue, reinstalled the game through origin. Origin never decided the game was installed, but I was able to play through quite a bit of the game by bypassing origin and just running the exe( Seems to just be EA failing to copy steam properly). Anyways. So this was fine, had no issues. Stopped playing, put computer to sleep, tried to play the game 16 hours or so later and the problem still existed. There were no driver changes in that time. I figure it must be origin corrupting something while trying to convince itself that the game is installed. But, the fact that it causes a complete system freeze suggests it is hardware related. Can't find anything related to this kind of issue with my card, though it's not surprising since it's only been around for a few months.
