"Magic is intention given direction. If you lack the will to control your spells, you risk them falling apart or being turned on you in battle. Those of you who die as such are worthless to the Council, to your fellows and to yourselves. They shall not be remembered or mourned." -- Dolores Thinreed, former Senior Enchanter (Deceased)

"The Chronicles of Estra" is a Total Conversion modification for Dragon Age: Origins, set in a world that enjoys a blend of influences from both High Fantasy and Science Fiction, as well as limited contributions from other genres. I'll be working on this myself -- or I will, if I can ever learn how to use the damn Toolset properly. Well, and if it decides it wants to stop crashing on me.

Estra is the result of over a decade of personal experience both enjoying and picking apart works of entertainment, particularly those set in fantasy worlds. I consider it both a deconstruction and a satire of the fantasy genre as a whole. Essentially, Estra is a world-building exercise that took on a life of its own.

What sets Estra apart from the rest of the fantasy genre, you ask? Well, the magic, for one. Simply waving around a twig and shouting "Expelliarmus" won't do when it comes to casting anything at all. I have spent many long hours developing a magic system that I hope will stand up to the investigations of others, and will certainly not fall apart just because somebody has Plot Armour.

Estra is a "dark" fantasy world -- which by moden standards apparently means the protagonists don't urinate liquid candy that solves the world's ills. By *my* standards, however, it means that Anyone Can Die -- and I don't just mean Random Mook #52. Expect murder. Expect betrayal. Expect hatred. Expect slaughter. Expect war.

Don't expect love, or forgiveness, or even peace -- or at the very least, don't expect them how you think you know them. Most refuse to accept the dark side of altruism, after all...

Please, feel free to ask me any questions you might have about anything related to this project. A few topics related to the setting are available for viewing here, but I'm always happy to answer more. Who knows? Perhaps in stopping to think about a question I've not yet even considered, the answer might help develop this project of mine more.

Heh. Thanks, Looy. Anyway, are there any subjects you wish to know more about? I was going to get at my files at work today, but I was too busy being sick everywhere.

This sounds interesting. I like the idea of a real dark fantasy.
