I'm going to quote something said about Ulysses S. Grant, because it reminds me of Vega.

"...He looked as if he had determined to drive his head through a brick wall, and was about to do it."

I liked Vega. Much more than Jacob (and I actually really liked being Jacob's friend (NOT as an LI!)). And I really like how we couldn't romance Vega, either. Way too much fraternization happening on the Normandy. Kaidan/Ashley, Cortez, Traynor, Kelly, and Allers :< Shep be all up in the using and abusing power department.

I liked Jacob and Vega, too, with the latter a bit ahead. I thought Vega was a fun addition to the game, and enjoyed his dialogue and commentary. I took him with the squad a lot.

I had very little time for another generic Space Marine, though he did have a funny joke or two.

He should really be a LI. It surprised me he wasn't.

Not a bad character, but now whenever I think about new character I feel sad that these resources were not used on older ones like Jack, Ashley/Kaiden, Thane, Miranda. Especially with Vega and EDI taking precious squad place.

Vega was great, pity he wasn't an LI option.

I liked Vega :) a whole lot more than Jacob, and also Kaidan  - and wished they had introduced Vega in ME2 insead of Jacob (I'm playing Female, so I guess that has a lot to do with it as well, re: Jacob and Kadian) but I don't think they even thought about Vega back then.

(just wishful thinking on my part) ;)

I think it's also because Vega wasn't romanceable. for me it was awful in ME1 with Kaidan, and ME2 with Jacob was even worse, a FemShep was horrid there.

Edit: Now, the more I think of it - I actually would have liked to have Vega instad of Kaidan in ME1. I can see it in front of me; no forced romance, just a good buddy. Yes, I would have liked that. :-)

I think Vega's a pretty entertaining character all round. I just think he suffers a bit from replacement syndrome. People say "OMGWTF who's this meathead? Where's my LI? Wrex/Thane/Miranda/Jacob/Samara/Legion/Mordin/Morinth/etc" and dislike Vega as a result.

But he's actually really good.

I liked him. He is way better then Ashley/Kaidan for me. Also no gay tension for BroShep for once.

I took him on nearly every mission and loved his character, great voice acting. The muscles are okay too...

I just wish he had better character development and didn't seem to come out of nowhere...would still take him over Jacob anyday though.

It's not his fault, his an underdeveloped character. To this day, if you didn't read the comic with vega, you wouldn't have a clue who he is till you really get to know him. For most people, he is just a character dumped on you with out any really reason as to why.

I was fully prepared to hate this character, but he actually grew on me as the game went on.

Found I liked him a lot more by the end than either of Ashley or Kaiden, the previous career Alliance personnel you could have on your team. He's pretty chilled out, has some good humour, no real issues, just a solid, straight-talking soldier which I think the team needed.

Plus he has no real baggage about Shepard having worked with Cerberus that certain squadmates were dragging round....I was longing for a Renegade interrupt on the Mars mission to just slap Ashley upside the head

Vega is a good squad mate. He had some character and interacted well with the team.

He was better than expected.

I still wish I could've had Jack or Miranda (but I'd trade EDI from them over Vega) in my squad.

But Vega is the best solider BioWare has written - far superior to Kaidan, Ashley or Jacob.

Plus, FPJ did a really great job of bringing the character to life.

I was fully prepared to hate him, but he's a solid character.

If there's a ME4 with Shepard, I would welcome him back.

He's one of the few squad members with no *daddy issues*

Liara, Jacob, Tali, Miranda, Grunt, Ash, Samara, Morinth, Joker, Thane all have or had daddy issues

There's no love because:

He's not lovable. He's just there. There's nothing wrong with him. Nothing particularly great or interesting either.

There isn't a single pre-existing charactrer that you couldn't have worked onto the Normandy somehow that people wouldn't have liked to see there far better. Jack. Miranda. Anyone.

Though I don't love the idea of killing him like I do Ash or Kaiden.

So there's that.

Vega was boring and a waste of space whilst on the ship, he never really had anything interesting to say after missions. His interactions with Javik, Garrus and Joker were pretty funny but that was about it. I never really found myself going down to the shuttle bay to speak to him.

On missions though, he completely transforms. Some of the stuff he says/does is hilarious! Like kicking that console on Rannoch 'cos he had no clue how to hack it. Quality stuff. Needless to say, he didn't end up as the generic meathead that I thought I would hate the moment I saw him. He actually grew on me a lot. He's a lot better then Jacob, in any case.

Would still prefer a Krogan though.

HAH!

I just discovered that in ONE playthrough I left Kaidan alive.

Thinking about booting up THAT playthrough this summer so I can blow his brains out on the Citadel en route to the extended cut DLC.

I'm quite giddy, actually.

Actually, he very much does have 'daddy issues', especially if you read his comic.

I expected to hate him too, but I can't, he's great. Solid character with a decent VO, wish we could have seen a bit more of him in a loyalty quest or something. I also enjoyed having a character that wasn't interested in romancing Shep.

"Have you seen EDI? If you bring her along on a mission, I might be a litle bit distracted."
*awkward silence*
"... I mean more distracted"
"Nice try James."
"Sorry Lola."

It's the little things like spending ALL of Mars suggesting you're either still a Cerberus operative even though
Vega makes it clear they haven't had contact.

And they WATCH Shep reinstated by one of the highest ranking officers in the Alliance. Only to have that confirmed by the highest ranking military officer in the Alliance.

Or they basically tell you to your face that they think you're a glorified husk.

Then, if you try to bury the hatchet ith him after snapping at him the whole way through on Mars he says something like, "i'm glad we're good even though you were an ass to me on Mars."

I
was an ass to you? REALLY? Are you f-ing kidding me?
