That is true and anyway Bioware would have had to develop the "ancient" race for some time.  A quick appearance at the end would be terrible.  I am all for the idea of the current sentient races finding a way to defeat the Reapers on their own, without having to end galactic civlization OR rely on ancient God aliens.

They're having to rely on the ancient alien technology of the catalyst, and the ending galactic civilization goes without saying.

My predicted ending for ME3 was that they find some sort of controlling station for the Reapers. Shepard and co fight their way onto this station and then Shepard is given a choice. The renegade choice would be Shepard letting a bunch of people die to stop the Reapers. The paragon choice would be Shepard sacrificing herself in order to stop the Reapers.

As it turns out I wasn't far off from the truth.
