There was also a Turles Forever direct-to-video movie that was apparently really good that contained homages to the different incarnations of the Turtles over the years. Anyone see that one?

yes i did. i watched it 3 times honestly

if there going to reboot a live action film at least do it right without changing the orgins

i just cant wrap my head around how bay couldnt use the old comics for inspiration because now those are dark and edgy in there own right

truthfully i hate remakes but id rather see it go the comic route instead of a complete orgin overhaul

It was a comic, not a live action movie...

No, it does NOT work. They are called Teenage MUTANT Ninja Turtles. They are MUTANTS. How does an ALIEN classify as a MUTANT? And how would they learn Ninja skills if the martial arts style of fighting was invented on Earth? And what does that make Shredder? He goes from leader of the Foot Ninja clan to some intergalactic space dictator? This entire film is (and I quote from the Warcraft forums) A SLAP IN THE FACE!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems to me that an alien origin doesn't preclude a childhood and adolescence on earth, living in the sewer, eating pizza and learning martial arts. No moreso than being four ordinary turtles and a rat does, minus the, y'know...

Mutagenic goo from an unknown origin that intervenes to give the turtles and Splinter a humanoid appearance, greater size, intelligence and dexterity, and all of that.

Actually, th' lack of opportunities for Splinter (who is a humanoid rat) to learn martial arts to pass on to the turtles is a bigger obstacle. Non-humanoid rats should be especially bad at learning hominid martial arts.

i think you misunderstood what im saying

i was trying to say the current bay reboot should follow what the comics portrayed before it had a cartoon

the animated film stan was talking about introduced some of that

and yes it was a live action trilogy in the 90s

i just watched the first one do to how much i hate the idea of bays take on the remake

Whenever someone makes a "remake" they usually go back to the source material. In this case that would be the comics from the 80's. Those live action movies weren't that great compared to the comics. Those books weren't very kid friendly, and of the two versions the comics were far better. If he's still making this and needs to incorporate something from the earlier iterations, the book would be better.

The ORIGINAL comics would leave Bay owing some royalties to Marvel, since they were basically an extended homage to Daredevil.

Am I the only one who had to read the announcement to realize TMNT was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

And it was f**king amazing! If he did something like that then it would be worth it. I already have the campy child version in my childhood.

i know im just saying though why change mutant to alien at all?

whats next? is he gona have them crash into new york in a space ship with splinter being a alien brain similar to craing?

what about bebop and rocksteay? are they aliens to?

how about shredder? is he gona be a humanoid transformer now because bay has this obsession about aliens?

will bay over sexualize april by getting some underwear model now?

believe it or not i like the trilogy i grew up on because the first 2 were dark in there own right the 3rd was just fun not dark like the fiirst 2 but fun

In the ...2003 (?) cartoon, I do believe Shredder was a mechanical body being piloted by a "Krang." (Well, they were space aliens called Utroms, not invaders from Dimension X.) Basically, he had completely fabricated the Shredder identity and Oroku Saki to give him a cover on earth. Although that was one of a number of stylistic decisions I didn't entirely agree with, Bay would hardly be blazing a trail there.

I don't think it's really possible to add more sexuality to April O'Neil than she comes with, since she's spent much of her career from the mid '80s to the present day in some kind of clingy jumpsuit. Really, she was DE-sexualized a bit for the film from the children's cartoon, which was a trifle ironic. Chances are that in a live action film, casting will choose an attractive woman with a shapely figure, whether costuming can work out a yellow cotton number saucily open at the neck or not. (And whether or not you could get a self-respecting woman to actually wear such a thing. Oh, how I've tried! Kiddin'.)

It has occurred to me, thinking about this, that I'd object more to having Vanilla Ice make another appearance than to the whole alien thing. At least aliens are cool.

Well, that is sure a strange combination of qualities to evoke. Kinda reminds me of Sucker Punch.

One of these days they'll go back to black April(not in this movie) like she was in the original Mirage comics. That'll really turn some heads.

Though she's probably too entrenched as a yellow jumpsuit wearing redhead at this point to ever go back.

I would like to remind people that bashing is not permitted in our community. This includes filmmakers you happen to not like. While I disagree with Michael Bay's decision to alter the origin--I have a very special place in my heart for the Turtles franchise--I am willing to keep an open mind and see how he pulls it off. It is not easy to encapsulate 25 years of a franchise's history and lore into a 90-minute film and expect to not only make money from a general audience but please the unpleasable fanbase as well.

Look at Scott Pilgrim. I didn't like the comic, but I thought the movie was clever, shiny, and fun. The general audience didn't share my opinion and the film didn't make money at the box office.

I'm sorry, but I can't keep an open mind. Changing the origin is just a bad idea. It's like he's not even making a TMNT film, but rather ripping it off. He's even calling the film "Ninja Turtles" and dropping the first half of the name.

Now he does say that he is working with the original creators of TMNT, but honestly, I don't really trust him to not screw this up.

Here's the link to the Washington Post article about his reaction to the backlash:

People would undeniably b***h about it to no end. Even though April is black.

Yeah early on, the way she's drawn, lips, frizzy hair, and toning (and the fact she's based on a real person...) she was supposed to be black. But then, the first time she appeared on a cover the colorist made her white, and that was pre-digital so there was no real way to fix that, and then the cartoon came and... so it went.

Anyway who cares about this movie, the next show will be far better I hope.

And with it went all the violence and Noire crime setting. That would be the kind that would transition better to film than a kid's movie.
