It probably won't take long for somebody to mod some sex into Awakenings.  If I've learned anything about my fellow gamers over the years it's this - a large number of us really enjoy our pretend romances and pixelated porn.  I mean, have you looked at how many nude or nearly nude mods there are available for DA already?  Not to mention the Better Sex mod.... And these are the most popular mods out there.

Stop looking at me like that. I most certainly did NOT just run out and download the Better Sex mod...

Now, I need to go play a female character up to the point where I can initiate a relationship with Leliana. For no particular reason.

Edit: On a more serious note, something just occurred to me. The cutscene bits in the Fade, do they change if you're in a relationship with that character? Has anyone ever held off on going to the Tower long enough to find out?

Morrigana: "Tis an impossible battle, we should just go to the Castle.

Sten: I agree, this is not needed.

PC: Is that what you guys think?

*both shake there heads yes*

PC: Okay, if you guys can answer two questions, I will do what you say. Do you agree with this?

*shake heads*

PC: Okay, first tell me how just the 4 of us assulting a heavily fortified castle filled wiht monsters is less impossible then helping the villagers defend themselves, and also tell me how the arl will help us once he finds out we abandonded his village to die?

Alistar: I want to talk about what happend in Redcliff

Me: Fine, I'll tell you. Your people originally came here from the other side of the ocean to the east, you have better technology than us but you treat your mages even worse than we do so you could never conquer us. Your homeland smells of tea and incense, you have never developed the idea of making sweet baked products, you have strict roles for everyone since birth that can never change and you don't understand how a woman can be a fighter any more than a man can be a priest. You are part of the Beresaad, obstensibly honorable warriors who can't lose the weapon they were given upon joining or be seen as traitors and deserters. Is that all accurate?
Sten: .......
Me: Well?
Sten: If you knew, then why did you ask me?
Me: I like messing with you.
Sten: I see...

I didn't notice a difference relationship-wise with Ali or Zev. I did notice that if I did the Circle after doing the Goldanna quest, I had the extra option of taking demon-Goldanna aside and telling it to let Alistair go. (Presumably because you already know she isn't the loving sister that Alistair is dreaming of.)

There's no change with Leliana or Alistair that I've noticed.

Alistair will ignore you if you don't use persuade options, and that's when you have to talk to Goldanna.  I usually do that just to hear him tell me I'm grumpy and need pie :)

And it's the same before or after you've done his personal quest.  He doesn't notice any difference.

Leliana won't even remember me.  Hurt my feelings :(

Back to ME2 for a moment, if I might. I've started my Vanguard, and as expected I've managed to get myself killed several times so far. Any good recommendations on Advanced Training?

Must admit, most frustrating part of ME2 is the limitation of biotic abilities. Anything outside of Warp putters out if the target is armored or shielded. Vanguard specifically, I'm suffering from a lack of ranged damage, particularly to armored / shielded target. Constantly swapping around weapons is frustrating too; I feel like my accuracy is awful. Which is to be expected, I guess, when I just got finished playing an Infiltrator.

Machine Pistol is crap. Stick with the regular one until you can get the SMG (which is less crap), As for advanced training? I'd go with Warp Ammo to upgrade it to Squad Warp Ammo. Or Slam. Slam is funny.

Agreed. That's the problem with Vanguard, ALL its weapons are crap. Shotguns are crap outside of point-blank range, SMGs are crap, and you could use a pistol as... idk... an Adept and actually have seriously useful powers instead like Warp. Slam was a lot of fun on my Adept...

Eventually, I just forgot about Vanguard and started my New Game + style playthrough on my soldier. With my Revenant Assault Rifle. It's a pleasantly tactless approach when you can even pop out on a fully armored krogan right in front of you without fear. Sometimes I forget I even have Adrenaline Rush. Used Warp Ammo my first playthrough, and it wasn't bad, but it's not like I don't have ammo options so I took Reave instead this time through. Haven't felt disappointed yet. I'm hoping that when I got to the Collector ship I'll get to pick up another ridiculous weapon, prolly the antimatter rifle for long range combat.

You can't pick up another weapon at the collector ship, sadly. I  figured  I'd do the same with my Engineer. Assault Rifle was the one I picked up on my very first playthrough. On my New Game+ run I couldn't pick up the sniper or the shotgun, etc. as the game already marked me on my first run having picked up the Assault Rifle. If that makes any sense...

It makes sense, and is rather... depressing. Still, as I sleep clutching my beautiful assault rifle as if it were a teddy bear, I know I made the right choice.

It's rather sad, though, that I take the starting sniper rifle over the "upgrade" simply because I like the one shot, one kill approach. Once it takes 3-5 headshots to kill something, you might as well be using a pistol...

Vanguard advice:

Take Reave as your advanced training. Evolve it into Area Reave. It will tear through armor and biotic shields as effectively as warp, and on unprotected enemies will restore your health pretty quickly.

On the collector vessel, get training in Sniper Rifles. Use the Viper sniper Rifle. It's rapid fire combined with your fire ammo will get through heavy armor (like heavy mechs, Scions, and Prometheans) in no time at all.

Talent points:

Charge - Your bread and butter. Watch your enemies. Wait for one or two of them to break off from the group, particularly to an area that will give you cover when you're done with them. Charge in, and take them down with your shotty. Most enemies will drop in 1-2 blasts, even on Insanity. Evolve charge into Heavy Charge.

Fire Ammo: Invaluable against armored or regenerating enemies. Evolve into the version that explodes, splashing all nearby enemies with fire. I forget what it's called.

class Training: I'd recommend putting 4 points into this before anything. I evolved into Champion for more survivablity, but Destroyer should be viable as well.

Shockwave: Kind of situational. Combined with Area Reave, it can be handy against swarms of husks. Reave their armor off, then Shockwave them for an instant kill.

Weapon: Stick with the default shotgun at first. When you get the Scimitar Shotgun, that should be your primary weapon. It can hold 8 rounds with 16 in the clip, and has rapid fire capability. Combined with Heavy Charge, the Scimitar will turn you into a force to be feared.

Be prepared to die a lot until you get the hang of using Charge. Remember that Charge also temporarily restores shield and boosts their power. The Most effective tactic to clear a room quickly is to charge to the enemy that's farthest away and take him down. Use his cover if needed, then charge at another isolated enemy and blast him. Charge from enemy to enemy until they're gone. Take out minion type enemies first, then use your sniper rifle or reave to soften up the stronger enemies before Charging in to finish them off. Be fearless.

Here's a nice gameplay video that demonstrates what I'm talking about. I'm not quite as good as this guy, but you'll get the idea:

I just noticed another Baldur's Gate 2 reference in ME2.

In BG2, you could get Aerie as a companion. She was an elf rasied by a gnome, so she became a cleric of the gnomish god Baervarn, who had a racoon companion known as Chictika Fastpaws. One of Aerie's responses when you gave her a command was "Faster than Chictika Fastpaws!"

In ME2, the Quarians use Vas'<Shipname> as surnames. Tali becomes known as Tali Vas'Normandy. One of her battlecries is "Nothing is faster than Chictika Vas'Paws!"

I thought it was cute.

Ok, first lesson of Vanguard is "Don't Stop Using Charge." Which is exactly like it sounds; you get a shield buff when you charge, which helps you stay alive, so keep using it even if your target is 3 feet away. That's a big part of what I was doing wrong before, not watching the cd. Plus, I wasn't using it on armor/barrier foes, underestimating the ability of the shotgun to punch through defenses at melee range. Right, melee button. I keep forgetting about it.

Pull is also surprisingly useful against unarmored foes. As an Adept I undervalued it, due to Throw, Warp, and Singularity. It was the set-up for the Warp bomb, and not much else.

Warp Ammo was a good choice, shield boosting abilities are for cowards. No amount of shields will keep you alive as long as one-shotting things with a shotgun round to the face.

M-300 Claymore Heavy Shotgun

* DPS (HP / Armor / Barriers / Shields): 164 / 206 / 206 / 206

* Default ammo: 1 / 10

* Single shot, powerful shotgun. Can be acquired for Vanguards and Soldiers during the Collector Cruiser mission. Available as a research upgrade for Grunt.

[edit] M-22 Eviscerator Shotgun

* DPS (HP / Armor / Barriers / Shields): 168 / 210 / 210 / 210

* Default ammo: 3 / 12

* A longer-range shotgun with armor-piercing loads. Available for download through the Cerberus Network as of February 9th

Sooooooo... apparently the best shotgun for the old Vanguard is only available to the people on the Cerberus Network. Interesting choice. Hope they release the best Sniper Rifle that way too. Pretty soon you won't even NEED the stuff on the Collector ship.

So I'm trying Insanity and I just can't do it. It's impossible. No matter what I do, no matter how careful I am, there's always one effing Krogan that ravishes my bum. It's getting ridiculous. I'm starting to believe that Insanity on PC is by far easier than on the XBox. :(

Infiltrator ftw. Long distance headshots are the way to go.

The flaw in my plans would have to be the armies of  Husks, definitely... >_<

I've done insanity twice now. On PC, though. I don't buy the Xbox version of a game if there's a PC version available. Anyway, I thought insanity was impossible the first time I tried it as well, but as with every game I've played on the hardest difficulty setting it keeps getting easier every time I do it.

Sorry I don't really have any specific advice.

So, here's a real life event that some of you may find amusing.  If you'll recall like 50 or 60 pages ago I mentioned that some RL friends and I started up a DnD 4th Edition campaign.  We're really getting into it, too.  Our DM takes the time to lay out detailed maps on our gaming table, uses black construction paper for a fog of war type effect, and we have a ton of little plastic DnD miniatures we use to help visualize the action.
So... on my latest trip for work, I had some free time.  I found a Barnes & Noble near my hotel, and it was a pretty good one.  They actually had a decent selection of DnD minis in their scifi section, so I bought a few.  As I'm going through security on the way home, the female TSA rep who was scanning the carry on luggage suddenly starts laughing.
"Who's bag is this?" she manages to ask through a fit of giggles.
"Uh... Mine," I reply, wondering what the hell's so funny.
She then calls a couple of her TSA buddies over to have a look.  She points to the screen, and they all start cracking up.
"He's. . . He's got little action figures in his bag!" she exclaims.
Ah, ****, I think.  This must be how Allistair feels when the rest of the party catches him playing with all those little stauettes I gave him......

None taken. It's virtually impossible to offend me anymore.

So anyway... I completed my first run of Heavy Rain last night. Great game, but I ended up with the most horrible ending. Not a single character had a happy ending, and a couple of them ended up dead. So of course I immediately started a new game. That's how I know when a game is really good: When I complete it, my first impulse is to play it again.

Dragon Age: Awakening is coming soon AND there will be no romances what so ever according to devs.

But Alistair will be making an appearance.

... ? Anyone working on slap Alistair mod already?

I can already imagine the reaction this game will have on the romancing swarms. And no Leliana... bugger it all, now I wonder if it's worth buying or not. On a positive side though, there will probably be no Morrigan either. Not that I was actually serious about not buying it. I need a new DA fix.

Yeah...I'm now...ambivalent.

Particularly since the Return to Ostagar took...so very long and was so incredibly underwhelming all told.

I have my "punch Alistair" mod ready...always ready!
