Insanity: Done.

51/51 Achievements unlocked. Now, perhaps, I can put this game to rest (not going to happen, but y'know...)

Yep, I know what you mean.  I've had all 51 achievements for a while, but I still plan to do one more run through the game.  I started ME1 again to get a level 60 character with all side quests complete ready for import.  Once that's done, I'll do one last run through ME2 so I'll have my "optimal" game saved and ready for import when ME3 is released.  Whenever that is.  I'll just have to be sure to back up all my saved games onto my storage drive this time.

Meh. Getting to 60 only lets you start at like lvl 5. Seems excessive ;)

I'm not even clear on all the sidequests you can find, but god knows I don't want to explore every single planet in ME1. But I'm starting a new game too, in an attempt to be a rogue shepard without, y'know, killing all the minor characters. So I can continue being Rogue to them in ME2. Most specific goal is to have a rogue playthrough with Wrex still breathing. But I might just scrap it, the horrible inaccuracy of a new game is just painful.

Me: I'm going to kill you for what you've done to my family and I'm going to enjoy it!

Howe: What I did to your family?

Me: Don't play dumb with me! I keep reliving the of the attack over and over and over again...and I still can't stop Iona from opening the door. I'm starting to think her death was just natural selection...maybe I'll have bettler luck with what's-his-name...

Howe: Look, I don't even knw you. Whatever I did, I'm sure it wasn't personal.

Me: Not personal? Not PERSONAL? You were a guest at my father's estate and then you had him and the rest of the household butchered in the night! How can that not be personal?!?!

Howe: Do any of you have an idea what she's talking about?

Oghren: No, but as long as she keeps supplying me with alcohol and violent deaths, I don't care.

Shale: I have better things to do than worry about its inability to keep its past straight.

Alistair: Is this like when you had to slaughter the entire carta for leaving Leske locked up for over a year and for trying to have you killed, when you had to gut Bhelen for framing you for fratricide, when you had to kill Jowan because Lily deserved better and he was too stupid to live, and whe you had to kill Vaughan for raping your cousin and having your other cousin locked up for over a year despite none of these people having an idea who you were?

Me: Possibly. This might be a strange question but what was my race and background again?

Oghren: Dalish Elf.

Me: Dalish Elf, huh? I see...wait, who do I hate again?

Alistair: Pretty much everyone, I think. Except maybe for dwarves; I don't think you really care one way or another about them.

Me: So I must kill every human I can in revenge, got it.

Shale: I think I like it so much better now than when it thought it was a noble.

Howe: What about me? Since apparently I never did anything to you-

Me: Sorry, shem. It's nothing personal, I just intend to bring death and destruction to your species.

From Awakenings:

Nathaniel Howe: You murdered my father for no good reason!

Me: He murdered my family!

Nathaniel Howe: Wait... you're a Cousland? But you're an ELF!

Me: What? *checks for pointy ears* By God, you're right.

Nathaniel Howe: See? You had no reason!

Me: Look, do we really have to do this?

Nathaniel Howe: Do what?

Me: It's just so cliche. I mean, your dad was evil. More evil than anyone else in the game.

Nathaniel Howe: So?

Me: So can you really not have noticed? Really? No sinister laughter at all, ever? No "Next time, Gadget! NEXT TIME!" He's just so... one-dimensional.

Nathaniel Howe: I was, uh, away from home a lot?

Me: Right. A likely story.

Nathaniel Howe: Would you PLEASE let me out of prison so I can stab you in your sleep?

Me: Only if you agree to murder Oghren first.

Wow, that was amazing.

Nathaniel Howe: Wait... you're a Cousland? But you're an ELF!

You would not believe how often I've had that problem. My DC game was so confusing as I kept forgetting I wasn't playing DN and kept getting mad at Rica for insisting that the DN was evil and bursting out laughing whenever she started talking about how sweet Bhelen was and how he 'cried for weeks' when Endrin sent him away.

I can usually keep the species straight, but even that isn't enough when faced with Howe. Or Vaughan. Or Jowan. Or Jarvia. Or Behlen...

Yay Mass Effect 2 DLC! I mean, "boo!" for including a Mako-style vehicle, but in theory this should be fun-ish. Waiting impatiently for download.

Also, fairly cheap (not free) download to give Jack, Garrus, & Thane new outfits. It's cute that they give you free missions and a tank, then charge you for playing dress-up. But w/e ^_^

Edit: Oh. THAT'S why it's free.

Well, there's a disappointing lack of things to make explode. But I guess it was still better than the Mako missions. ^_^

Rather disappointed in the new Firewalker DLC. "Go here, scan that. Job done." Repeat that through all the missions.

Well, the next DLC can't get any worse (hopefully).

Don't get me wrong, I had fun on my 2h warrior. Knocking stuff down, unleashing the combo. Lot of specs don't seem to have gained much though.

Whoops! I managed to delete all my savegames. Have to run through ME2 again just to have a proper character to import to ME3.

Oh well, at least I've got time to run it again. :P

I finally started on Awakenings yesterday. I've been having fun with it so far, but I think some of the game mechanics are a little broken. This isn't just a problem in Awakenings, but with DA in general.

What I mean is that my dex/cunning dual dagger wielding rogue has become an unstoppable murder machine. He's a better tank than any other character in the game. His dex is so high that nothing can touch him. The only time he takes any real damage is from magic. Since acquiring the new Velvet Voice dagger, his backstab damage is up into the tripple digits. Combine that with Momentum, and his damage output is obscene. He holds aggro better than any tank can simply based on the amount of damage he's doing. He now has 3 AoE powers to use when surrounded: Whirlwind, Low Blow, and Dual Weapon Sweep. Combine that with a cone of cold or mind blast from Anders, and he wipes out whole groups of enemies in seconds.

It's almost ridiculous. If I could get his magic resistance up, it would be like playing on god mode. Seriously, he's been hit by chain Overwhelm and taken 0 damage from it. He's gone toe to toe with 2 revenants and not taken a single hit. He's been surrounded by 10 enemies and dropped them all in about 3 seconds without taking any damage himself. And he's a ****ing rogue! Oghren, Mhairi, Justice... they all dropped like flies when surrounded, but my rogue can take all comers.

But other than that, I don't see what all the complaining on the forum was about. So far, it's been pretty good. It does seem that they focused a lot more on game mechanics than story, but it is an expansion pack. I don't think it's really meant to advance the story very much, just to give fans something more to do after they've beaten the game.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one actually enjoying the game.  My first character I played through with was a rogue.  She could take out the entire field and she never fell.  EVER!  I went up against the Queen of the Blackmarsh a level lower then was recommended by my game guide.  I pulvarized that thing.

As far as the character development, I still enjoyed my party.  They still had banter and it made me laugh, and that was good enough for me.

I'm playing on Nightmare, and the Queenof the Blackmarsh was one of the few enemies to give my rogue pause, but only because there didn't seem to be any way to avoid her lightning spit and I didn't have any salves with me. If I had some salves or enough health pots, I could have soloed her.

There seems to be just as much, if not more, party banter in Awakenings as there was in Origins. The only thing lacking there is the ability to strike up a conversation with your companions at any time while you're out in the world, but I personally feel that kind of makes sense. The middle of a dungeon crawl isn't exactly the best time to be discussing your relationships with your team mates.

So far my favorite bit of dialogue was a discussion with Oghren at the cask:

Oghren: So, can I have a pony?

Me: I bet you can't even tell me what you just said.

The conversation when I actually gave him a toy horse was awesome.

Hahaha that's how I got through my Awakenings trip. DC rogue just literally ripped through things and what she/I missed, Nate killed. Anders spent 99% of his time just keeping himself and Oghren alive in case something snuck past my dwarven blender routine.

Finished my first run of Awakenings. It was fun pretty fun, but I have 2 complaints.

First, Runecrafting blows. I would much rather just buy the damn runes or find them as loot as in Origins. It was especially bad since I didn't take the skill myself, so I had to go into the Keep to buy materials, then go outside so I could have Oghren craft runes. It got really annoying, so after a few minutes I gave up and never bothered with it again.

Second, the companions. I didn't feel like I got to know any of them, so I really didn't care about their approval ratings. Given that you get exactly 2 warriors, 2 rogues, and 2 mages, and you have the ability to respec anyone at any time, it seems like the only reason you even have companions in Awakenings is so you don't have to solo. Only once choice I made seemed to really matter to any of them, and since I barely knew them anyway I really didn't care how they reacted.

But overall it was pretty fun. I did kind of rush through it and failed to complete some side quests, so I will have to play through again. Not sure if I'll import another character or try it as the generic Orlesian Gray Warden.....

And that's really the big complaint; the lack of party member development. It's what separates Bioware's work from everyone else. That is why we're all so disappointed it's not there :(

It's exactly what it says on the tin; more of the same game. It's an expac. No world development, no history, no culture, just killing bigger, badder stuff. Though at least this broodmother isn't quite as horrific as the last one >.>

My first play through was with an Orlesian Warden.  I have a specific character that I wanted to import, but she's not ready yet.  So my Orlesian started at level 18.  How crappy is that?  You can't even select any of the new fancy skills/talents till level 20.  That irritated me, but with all the side quests I still ended up at level 30 anyway.

I agree that runecrafting is really pretty worthless.  My only runecrafter was Sigrun and I had to do the same thing.  Go inside to buy all the stupid supplies and then come back out to have her make whatever rune I needed.  I almost didn't do it, but I wanted to finish all the sidequests and get whatever armor/weaponry Wade would build me.  It wasn't bad.  The blade he built looked just like Starfang.  Which I thought was one of the cooler looking weapons in the game.  Save one.  The new bow he created.  That thing was pretty awesome.

I liked the characters, but you don't really get to know them.  Oghren you already know from Origins-duh-and Nathaniel you some what know because of his family.  Although thank goodness he doesn't turn out to be like his crum-bum dad.  Anders had a pretty good story line.  It helped that you met him right at the beginning, so you had the chance to get to him fairly well.  For me the level of development fit with the ending of the game.  They were just "red shirts" aka expendable.  So no point in making an incredibly in-depth character.

I did notice some control problems that I also had in Origins, but the ones in Awakening seemed just a little bit worse.  Example: Oghren would get stuck in a fight mode.  He would continue to swing even when there were no enemies around him.  Oh and the biggest thing that urked me was towards the end with the High Dragon.  Skank didn't give up the loot.  I was waiting ever so patiently for the rest of the blackblade or blackhand (whatever it's called) leather armor set and the dragon carried it.  I waited.  Then waited some more.  Left the room and came back.  Went into the cave or whatever it is and then went back and nope.  Nothing.  I assume it's just a bug.  I had  a similar problem in Origins with Ser Otto the first time I tried his quest.  After fighting the first demon, I got stuck in the room.  I was locked inside.  So I ended up going back to a previous save and abadoning Ser Otto.  Meh.  Now that I have finished the quest, abadoning him is probably the better ending for him.  Oh well.

And I've completed my play through on Veteran. Aside from the parts I couldn't HELP but come here and vent about (more cost-effective than flinging my mouse and smashing my keyboard) it really was fairly easy. Fully upgraded, with Warp Ammo, my Widow was still one-shotting Collectors on the final mission. Not that I could spare the ammo near the end of the final mission, but yeah. I got it done. Aiming the Arc Cannon at the final boss was hell though, I swear it was regenning health somehow. But, yeah, not as hard as I was expecting. Maybe I will try Insanity after all.

If you can beat ME2 on Veteran, you can beat Insanity.  The increase in difficulty isn't even noticeable between the two.

She didn't drop any loot for me either, but I didn't know she was supposed to. I just assumed that it was the one dragon in all of fantasy that didn't have any loot.

I'm pretty sure I missed out on a lot on my first run of Awakenings. I went to the final battle too soon, so I still had like 5 quests in Amaranthine to finish, and all of Wade's. I didn't realize that I was heading into the end of the game just yet. Thought I'd still have a chance to finish some things up at that point.

Oh well... Next time.
