Yay for Bann Teagan!!  I like him, I'm so glad he doesn't die.  I flirt with him every time I start the Redcliffe quest (since that seems to be the only time that I can).

I do like Bann Teagan too.  He seems to genuinely enjoy...um...entertaining his nephew.

And he yells at Isolde.  That's worth a lot.

Though he always asks me what I want to do about Jowan and then ignores me and leaves it up to Eamon.  My current playthrough I insisted on executing Jowan myself and he didn't let me :(

If you're a female Cousland (not sure about male) he'll remember you from social gatherings and there are more conversation options.

And he's genuinely nice and not just angling to get a present.  Sure, he lies to you about the signet ring and it might be because he wants you to save the town, blah, blah...*sigh*

Anyway, he's nice.  The voice actor at least makes it seem like genuine manners rather than political wheedling.

Goooood morning. Well, morning at least. I'm a night person, so I'd rather be in bed still, but not being in my own time zone makes it hard when the sun comes up before it's supposed to. Stupid sun.

Anyway...

He'll remember a male Cousland, but us guys don't get any flirty options with him. Shame, really. in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, a male PC could attempt to use Seduction on male NPC's, often with hilariously akward results. Would have been fun to see something like that in DA.

I was going to post an example of how that might have gone, but my fickle muse seems to have deserted me. Ah well. Maybe someone more clever than I can give it a go.

Goood morning!

Heh.  I just tried a restored game with a Zev romance.  I'm afraid it didn't turn out so well.  Took about five minutes to get the earring, but if I try to probe a bit what he's feeling and say I won't accept it if it doesn't mean something...especially since the story he tells has to do with taking it off a merchant...he takes it back and says if I don't want the earring, I don't get the earring.

Touch-EE!

I'm cursed with too much curiosity and honesty.

Zevran. . . Someday I'll get around to unlocking his romance for the achievement.  In the meantime, here's the song that goes through my head every time I talk to him with a male character:

At least Shale is upfront about it. I love her reaction to prezzies: "Oooooh shiny!"

Shale rocks! And not just because she's made of them, either. Great tank, great scrapper, no confusing, screwed up relationship issues, doesn't object when I want to kill people.... Hell, she'll even lend a hand. Nobody can stand up Shale for long when she's pummeling them with her flaming fists of fury!

I found that Zevran is pretty up front about what he wants, too. Isn't really such a complicated guy. I've grown to detest all the  NPC's now on my umpteenth playthrough. Leliana especially. No matter how much I woo her, that **** just won't give me her side-quest or romance me.  Not to mention her "Maker told me so."  frame of mind.

Alistair's  holier-than-thou attitude grates on my nerves.  Morrigan is a self-centered **** and the rest of the NPC's aren't really worth mentioning.

I've never managed to NOT get Leliana's sidequest, even on my playthrough devoted to seeing if Morrigan isn't a heartless b****. Last time I tried it, I ended up with Leliana anyway. Because I'm weak against the pouty-face. Thank god the archdemon isn't a chick.

I've also never failed to start Leliana's romance or get her side quest, but it is possible to miss out on both of them. If you don't compliment her on her wit and beauty in one of your first conversations with her in Lothering (you know, "What is a beautfiful, charming girl like you doing in a Chantry like this?"), her romance never gets off the ground. If you never ask her about Orlesian bards being spies, you'll never get her sidequest.

A friend of mine had the same problem. He kept asking me how I got Leliana to love me. At first I was like "I don't know, I just talked to her." That really seems to be all it takes. I had to come do some searching on these forums to get some more precise answers for him.

You don't have to be a noble to flirt with him though.  As long as your female you can ask him if he's married and he'll do his "I've never had the pleasure, but if I were I would hope she would be as lovely as you".  Awwww...so sweet.  I found out with my city elf rogue and I've done it with every character since.  After that conversation however, forget it.  You click on him and I don't think you can get any conversation at all (except for the cut scenes of course).

The first time I got it was back accident.  I just like gave her these shoes and talked to her and BAM, the sidequest was in my face.  The second time I got it, I almost didn't do it, cause she waited till right before the Landsmeet to tell me.  Really, Leliana, really?  But I was like we have to go to Denerim anyway, so whatever I guess.

Yeah, I only managed to get it once out of many playthroughs.  I guess I just pick the wrong responses.

I'm nice to her and all, but I don't effusively compliment her and I think she's crazy so I try not to ask too many questions for fear she will 'splode.

She responds surprisingly well to most lines of questioning. I thought for sure she was going to go ballistic on me when I told her that she should examine her beliefs and that Andraste was a liar. All I got was a "You really think so?" and a -1 hit to her approval rating.

To get her side quest, tell her you heard that Orlesian bards were spies. At some point you get to say "You were a bard, weren't you?" Then back at camp you'll get the story about Marjolaine's betrayal. After that, just wander around the map for a while with Leliana in your group until you get the random encounter with the Orlesian assassin. That's the final trigger to get her quest.

I did finally get it, it's just like pulling teeth compared to the other quests that pop out at you whether you like it or not.

Having fun today. Daughter's home for Christmas and she's playing.

"I insist you do the Kennel master's quest..."

"Okay."

"Good. You won't regret it."

Cool. I thought about buying the game for my nephew for Christmas, but he's only 13 so... Ehhhh, I'll leave it up to my sister (his mom) to decide whether the game is appropriate for him or not.

Have fun with your girl today!   Image IPB

If you tell him that you won't take it unless it actually means something, he'll offer it again later, so I hear.  He doesn't like being forced to say he cares about you though.  I haven't tried it yet,  so far my ladies have just used Zev rather than falling for him, the poor dear.

Aww...poor Zevran.  I haven't even bothered with a romance with him yet.  I'm trying to get all the Alistair out of my system so I can freely move about the camp and start experiencing other romances.  So either this character I'm on or maybe the next one, will be the last to be with Alistair.  At least for awhile.

Heh...yeah a light touch is necessary.  Or a paranoid touch, I'm not sure.  "I'm not looking at you, I'm not really attractive, sure, the earring you got off a dead merchant sounds awesome.  I'll just be...not thinking about you and I won't take this to mean anything in any way."

Zevran approves +7

How...romantic?

Yeah, ironically the most romantic lines you can get from him always net in some disapproval, luckily you can just boink those points right back.

Backing up a little since I haven't read this in a while...

If one has not romanced Morrigan all the way to +90 or higher, then yes, I could understand why one would dislike her so much. But she's kind of the opposite of Allistair, who starts out all great and devolves into a man-child. She has her beliefs and goals and she sticks to them, even through her romance with you.

What I don't understand is how everyone here can complain about Allistair needing to grow a pair, and then turning right around and complain about Morrigan for being blatant about going after what she wants (I do realize there's a rather wide line you can walk between the two). She even stops with the seemingly random -approvals, for the most part, by around half-way through the game. She's the best romance in the game imo, or at least the most logical.

I think it's mostly expectation.  I think the game's just as good with Morrigan being who she is.

I think the game could have been better had Alistair been written a bit more consistently.

And my main problem really is that choosing who is going to be the ruler and what to do with Alistair's personality is too complicated and entirely lacking in intuitive reasoning.   You have to use metagaming knowledge to get a "good" outcome and I think with better writing (particularly in his hardening quest) you wouldn't get bumped out of immersion constantly in order to fulfil a game condition.

I love Alistair to pieces.  I'm just not a huge fan of the what the game does with it and what you're expected to learn, or how you're expected to learn it.

Hah. I've discovered non-psychic gaming.

Daughter: Oh no! Loghain's pulling out because I didn't light the beacon on time!

Me: No! No, that's not it..

Husband: No, he's just a big douche.

Me: Yup, he's doing it on purpose.

Daughter: Oh. OH!

Also DAO humor:

Husband sets up a new Warcraft account for my son (yesterday was his birthday..) I check in later.

Me: What? Your name's Loghain?

Son: It was daddy's idea.

Me: He thinks he's funny.

The biggest problem I have is the name "Loghain," stick an "H" in the middle, he's still a False Dragon.

Also, that conversation with your daughter was funny as all get out.

It's a shame that fantasy names are all incestuous.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Bill the Vampire are refreshing.

My poor daughter's a Dalish elf.  She's screwed.  Best to keep the guilt to a minimum.  She's a THOROUGH gamer, reads every codex, talks to every person, and I mean EVERY person.  I'm learning stuff.
