Yeah.  It's unmoderated, so be prepared to use the ignore button liberally.

I'm Recidiva there too, so if you want to keep in touch there, feel free :)  My husband posts there as well.

I got started out there maybe four years ago when some of my fantasy roleplay ideas veered into the erotic and I didn't know where to park it.  Been parking stuff there ever since.

That little short story I wrote and put in the thread, it had to be edited.  Which is some what a shame, because I think it adds to the story.  Meh.  But I understand that there are younger people here, so it's all good.

She does love to teach, and for her that could be her true love, I guess, nothing wrong with that.  And you're right she does change her mind.  I just really did not expect it, but that makes a good game, right, having the unexpected happen.

Yeah, I didn't expect it either and I really liked that. IDK, maybe it's because she doesn't have long to live or she's just so used to being in the tower and being a mentor that she says that. I think she wanted you to stay the course and focus on what is going on around you. And sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes people can get so wrapped up in their love lives and not on what is going on right in front of them. (shrugs) Or maybe I'm just baised, I really love Wynne so...

ETA: Also I wanted to add that I felt that our PC's were supposed to be younger? Like, in their early twenties? Because it just felt like I was supposed to be younger and more naive. Which is weird for me because I play a late 20's to early 30's character. At least in my mind. I guess I do that because I'm around that age...
Um, yeah so now I'm just rambling - *waves hand* these are not the droids you are looking for!

Well yeah.  But I entirely intended to take all consequences upon
myself.   Again, I had sympathy for her advice, but I already knew that
living, playing, whatever...requires a motivation.  In this case, my
character chose love for her companions as her motivation.  The Blight
is really entirely uninteresting otherwise.

She never had any
choice about the circle.  She's absolute certainty about things because
she's never really had to choose.  She's chosen to make the most of the
choices made for her.  Which is admirable, but useless when facing
choices that aren't made for you.

But that's advice for
reality.  She's foreshadowing that you're entirely screwed no matter
what you do, and I picked up that way before I met Wynne.

Sure, I was like...annnd? I know this already Wynne." At least about the Blight and there being DIRE CONSEQUENCES. So I was more (shrug) whatever Wynne. One of my PC's was all about revenge, the other was all about stopping the blight "because that's what Couslands do - their duty", the other was like "LOLOLOLOLOLOL - wait - whut? by duncan's beard! ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Frak it, I'm outta here." (that was after Jory died).

It's true she never had a choice about the Circle but she did struggle with living in the Tower and be a Mage. She talks about that and that old Revered Mother who she became friends with. I think she found her peace in finally being a mage and nuturing future mages. She didn't start an exaulted march on the Chantry or Templars but she did want her Apprentice to be given a second chance. (shrugs) And she does make choices, yes she asks Irving to leave but I have a feeling that she would have left anyway if he hadn't given her his blessings, she's kinda stubborn that way. lol

Oh, yeah, I totally didn't need that foreshadowing, in fact I knew that a GW had to die to kill the Archdemon before Riorden ever talks about it. I mean it just makes Tragic Epic Story sense. heh.

The difference between what made it into the game and what's allowed on these forums is somewhat striking. Not to mention the whole 'no nudity but buckets o' blood' thingy in the game itself.

I remember my dwarf took great joy in always picking a "Does this story have Griffons in it" option :)

But my dwarf just thought all humans were crazy anyway and was a good listener from years in council having to pretend to pay attention.  Mountains of patience that wasn't actually patience, just being bored and knowing what to ask next.  Always ask the "and then what happened?" question.  That's easy.  And a good rule for conversation in general.

I'm afraid sometimes by the sixth playthrough, my interest lags...I'm gonna have to stop playing eventually, I know.  Just...not yet.

I do love Wynne.  Even though she's proof and Cullen's right.  You can't tell when someone's an abomination.  But I really loved her story.

Oh and for the record, love is not selfish. When Wynne said that I knew that she was either full of it, deceiving herself or the writers didn't have a clue. Probably a bit of all three.

Also, whilst I'm being dogmatic and such, marriage makes you stronger. I was incomplete until I got married. Marriage is very much a Good Thing.

I do think that's funny.

I am accustomed to unmoderated boards, so I do find that I'm used to just ignoring what I don't like and making fun of what I choose.  There was a thread locked the other night that I thought was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.  What a comedy waste.  Oh well.  I'll adapt.

The whole "murder's cool, sex is a no no" is one of those gamer conceits I always mock.

The whole "be nice to all completely rude dumbasses" also leaves me tsking, but oh well.  It's their board.  I can always go to the OK Corral when I choose.

I've been married...three times.

Took some practice, but this one is sticking.

And I probably would opt for the "die of a broken heart" option if he were to pass from this Earth.  I've paid my dues, I deserve it.

He's my reason for living.  So are my kids.  So without them I wouldn't have much motivation.  My daughter says a kitten will always find me to keep me going, but that's genuinely how I feel.  Unless there's someone for me to help out, I get sick of just helping myself.  I get bored.  Need more of a challenge.

That's part of the problem of my evil runthroughs.  I'm bored fast.  I don't care.  Don't want stuff for me, already got it.  Not afraid to die, sometimes sounds like a nice vacation.

So I gotta have someone to joke around with on the way or I'm not interested.

This is something I usually do with my new games I love too. But I can't manage it with DA:O anymore. It is just everything from Landsmeet that gives me the creeps. I had to force myself to the ending first time, and now it is just.. well. Meh. It is just too easy to draw the politics card on the consort of the king issue. I mean, let's face it, who got Alistair there in the first place. I wouldn't expect at that point that he would manage on his own, to be honest. And that is not even taking into account that, like you and others said, you can do way more with a decent partner around. The whole Morrigan ritual is smelling so bad that it isn't the way to go either. The only way which is a bit satisfactory is suicide by arch demon and that is just no fun in my book.

Me too! Heh. Wait - there are other options? I always go for the griffon lines. XD

My Dwarf Noble was like "SERIOUSLY? SERIOUSLY? This is my crew for saving the world?! I WANT GORIM BACK. NOW. Sodding Duncan just HAD TO DIE - YOU MEASLY BASTARD! -  to hell with it OGHREN WHERE'S THE ALE????"

I know what you mean I'm on my tenth playthrough with a 2 handed warrior and I'm going through cutscenes as fast as I can. And then last night I was like ... "this game feels shorter than the last...strange".

Cullen and I have...a fractious relationship. I don't like him but I understood what he was saying but he was kinda out of his mind with fear/anger etc. etc. but, damn, who can blame him?

I truly love all the characters. It's just sometimes...I wanna bash their heads in but only sometimes. XD

Well, this one through got interrupted.  My husband just built me a new computer and I'm totally distracted by having...750 GIG of storage space and two widescreens to play with.

I already know my little dwarf is going to screw everyone over and in the end make Alistair die and then buy an island named "The Orphanage"

But once I thought of that, it just means I have to do about 30 hours more of work to get to just say that line, so I'll say it now.

I'm not that curious now and I'm having fun talking about it and deconstructing it and playing with it...but I'm really not sure I can bring myself to go through the thaigs...one...more...time.

Once again, I'm failing early on being evil.

I suppose ultimately that's not a bad thing, I'm just not built to take anything other than creative joy out of it.

I know, to go from Gorim to no Gorim is a complete tragedy.

Morrigan, you are no Gorim.  In fact all y'all are not Gorimlicious.

Then you meet him in the market and he's hanging out with his wife and he can't join you.  WTF?

I actually thought about not even continuing my DN game to be without Gorim is just...awful.

All the NPC's are lacking in the Gorim-ness department.

I really, really hoped I could persude him to come along - true fact: Gorim makes everything better. Always. *nods*

Does anyone else wonder about the personal lives of the Bioware team? I'm starting to think that Morrigan's line about "No, you really don't want to know" applies to them as well.

I have faith, particularly with a lot of the writing...that they really do know better.  But unfortunately they may not think that gamers do, or may not think that gamers will have fun with suspense and then creative resolution, versus pearl clutching high drama and melodrama.

And in a way for mass culture stuff, they're right.  Very often the subtle intelligent stuff doesn't sell.  In the end they have to sell copies of the game.

Exhibit A:  Firefly got canceled.

And I think David Gaider expressed frustration at budgetary constraints, which makes absolute and perfect sense when dealing with some of the creative choices in the game turning out as they did.

It really does seem that they lavished love and attention right up to...Landsmeet...and then ran out of money.

The story goes perfectly and beautifully and seamlessly until then.  Then you run out of dialogue.  Then you run out of strategy choices.  Then the epilogue is buggy.

I was giggling at the time.  I told her not to take it personally.  I couldn't tell her why I was giggling.

Money and time, I think. I do remember something being said about endings being not as important as stuff earlier in game, because most/a lot of gamers don't get to the end anyway. Of course, I totally fail to find a quote on it.

On a side note, I can't force myself to play evil. No matter which game or setting.

1. Brownshirts forever.

2. Yes, it does seem like the money ran out, that and they needed to ship the d*** thing. But they also seem to be too in love with the 'shades of grey' thing. Oftentimes our only choice is Hobson's choice, but sometimes you get a nice binary, defining line decision to make.

3. After seeing a certain thread on these very forums bloom to an astonishing number of pages about an issue that is irrelevant at best they probably have a good understanding of the capacities of the average gamer.

4. Joss Whedon has written comics. Wouldn't a Whedonesque computer game be pure awesome?

Yeah.  That makes the most sense and I can understand that the most since I really do believe they put soooooo much work into it and it had love and care in every detail...until it didn't.  And that just seems so much more reasonable that they had to rush and go and the general air of defense and even disappointment seems to reflect caring a LOT and being disappointed themselves.  That's what I see, anyway.  So I try to respect that.

The only problem with this one is I can't really come up with an evil personality that is MOTIVATED to finish.  All my evil guys really see the writing on the wall and don't really give a damn about risking another moment of life or limb for anybody.

And as mentioned, I prefer to not play the crazy card.  If I can't really make it dovetail in my head, I run out of play steam.

The one thing I absolutely cannot bring myself to do...is walk by Dog and not save him and not take him along.  And that means something.  I love that dog.  I love everyone else, too, but Dog is entirely blameless.

If I could take Dog and Alistair and Shale into the sunset, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

1.  Shiny.

2.  Yeah, I agree.  They lost any dynamic sense of making progress.  You were always stuck on two steps forward and two steps back.  You don't go anywhere.

3.  This is true.  I happen to think of myself as an "average" gamer.  i.e., entirely capable of obsessing on the tiniest detail.

4.  I love Mr. Whedon's humor and wisdom with a passion.  But I do think his romantic story lines suffer from the Spiderman syndrome.  "I can't be with you...because...I'm too...important!"

He did it to Angel.  He did it to Oz.  He did it to Riley.

He didn't have time to do it to Mal, but it was starting...he has a tendency to make deeply ROMANTIC characters, but uses romantic story lines to jerk people around and I end up throwing things.

For GOD'S SAKE, LET SOMEONE BE IN LOVE FOR ONCE and not have it be a death sentence.  Holy...

So anyway, yes, obsessing on details, that's what I do.

So my 'best ending' includes this:

Riordan: I'm going to keep the arch demon busy to buy you time!

Me: No you don't. I've put the game on 'easy', I don't need the time you can buy. Just you come with me.

Riordan: But..!

Me: You'll get your playtime with the dragon, don't you worry about that for a single minute. NOW GO WITH ME!

My happy ending:

Me:  What if we just left?
Alistair:  Left...the Grey Wardens?  Well...
Me:  I'll make it worth your while.  Your sister's a ****.  Duncan used you.  But if we take off to Orlais together and bring Dog...
Alistair:  I'm so glad you asked.  Can I take off the armor then?  It's heavy and it itches.
Me:  I'd insist.
