I was so upset in Jade Empire when you die that I quit for a while.  I had to have my husband assure me you get out of it before I continued.  Dammit, my Spirit Monk deserved a happy ending!  I don't LIKE unhappy endings.

Heh, I didn't have that in that game just yet, because I knew it wasn't the end of game yet (don't ask how I knew, I just knew).

Then again, I was enraged with Kotor when you find out who you were supposed to be. Threw the bloody game into a corner for a while too. I hate being forced into a role I would refuse to play.

I was more then unhappy to give up one of my party in ME. That one is also a game I didn't play to the end often.

But yes, give me an option for a happy ending. I do play games for escapism and fun.

Virmire is easier if you hate Ashley. LOL

JE was only my second RPG ever (after KOTOR), so I had no experience to tell me it wasn't over or that I wasn't going to stay dead.

Revan was a shock, I'll admit.

When I played as a city elf, I made the mistake of making Anora queen. At the end, I asked her to make sure my people were treated fairly from now and she agreed to let them govern themselves. Then in the epilogue she goes and kills them anyway.....

So yeah, that alone is enough of a reason for me to not like Anora anymore.

That didn't happen to me.  Or at least that's not what I remember.  But the time I played a city elf I let Alistair be king.  Hmmm...The first two times I let her be queen and I don't remember HER doing anything to unsavory.

The epilogue stated that there was eventually a food shortage in the alienage, resulting in some rioting. Anora sends her troops in to quell it, killing many elves in the process. One must wonder. If it had been humans rioting because of a lack of food, would she have done the same thing, or would she have organized a relief effort to see them fed?

The only time Anora didn't slaughter elves is when Alistair was married to her.  Hardened Alistair marrying Anora, Loghain sacrificed is my ideal "best end for Ferelden" ending when comparing epilogues.

So I know I can't keep Alistair because he makes the best king.  I can't take Morrigan's deal because it's...the worst thing I think you can do in the whole game.

So I always make Alistair or Alistair/Anora king and queen together because otherwise I'm...evil.

And the evil ending might give me a little savage chuckle, but it isn't going to make me as affected as I am, if I get the sacrifice ending and then I cry for two hours.

Given the mess that Denerim is when you get there after her 5 years of "comptent rulership," and the mess Ferelden is in overall, I have my doubts, even without knowing the fate of the City Elves about her abilities.  She allowed Howe his corruption, after all.  And she couldn't checkmate her father?  Despite being a "competent administrator?"  Bull.  She talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk.  She's a competent administrator but let the men in her life (including Cailan) run roughshod all over her country?  No way, Jose.

Right, if I hadn't had to walk straight into a trap to save her, I might have been more convinced of her political acumen and her judgment of character.

So, we're agreed?  No queendom for Anora?  Off with her head?

I only dislike her because she likes making sure elves are slaughtered.

Never dear to my heart.

More non-racist Anoras would be nice.  But alas.  Not an option either.  If Anora was actually a good Queen, I'd let her have the country no problem.  But as she's pretty good at wiping out elves...nope.  Can't do it.

Well she had to have some flaw. Because if she didnt, tell me honestly who would ever put Alistair on throne?

You know you're right.  I didn't even think about that.  Shame on me.  Oh well.  But I still like the fact that at least she wants to be queen although the hardened Alistair does too.  I was shocked (maybe not shocked, perhaps, pleasantly surprised) when in the Landsmeet instead of me having to say anything Alistair chimes in and says he'll take the throne.  Yay, now I don't have to make EVERY decision in this stupid country!

What cracks me up is I have the grace and humor and intelligence to navigate the ugliness of reality succesfully, but there's a game out there what thinks it's smarter than me.

No, you're just limiting my options.  It's not like I don't really get pain, death, loss, grief, what it does to people.  Even me.  But if I could just...be as smart as I actually am, I'd appreciate it.  I already know how to fix this if you'd just stop talking for a few moments and LISTEN to me.  Someone?  Please?

Oh indeed, the PC's responses are never satisfying. I think Torment was the first (and last) game that had realtively intelligent responses. I would've preferred more choices for the ending, though.

As for DA and most other RPG's, I'll just pretend the PC is simply not as shrewd as the one controlling it. :D

Still, I sooo wanted to teach Alistair a lesson when he berated my char for sacrifising Isolde and sparing Loghain. Morrigan also needed a swift kick in the butt a few times. And Wynne too. Awww, damn. :o

Oh yes of course.  I will probably never play a game again where he is not hardened, especially since I like my characters to romance him.  (For now)  I get really attached and tend to be very loyal so it's hard for me to just romance someone else.

Not in mine. I plan to sacrifice him from now on. Seeing Morrigan pissed off at me for depriving her of her baby is too good to pass.

I got through Redcliffe again last night and something struck me. He wanted a happy ending for that family because HE felt bed for never allowing Eamon to visit him while he was in the Chantry. (Frankly, I think he was quite justified in that particular tantrum.) He knew he'd acted like a heel all those years ago and wanted to save them as an apology.

Meh.  I think that's a deal breaker, not a flaw.

She's okay with hardened Alistair though.  But hardened Alistair does okay on his own also.  Common denominator is hardened Alistair.

Anora alone I would only do if she had a flag set for "non-xenophobic wench"

But I'm not about to save Ferelden and possibly have the elves help me and possibly BE an elf and let her be queen alone unless I'm fine with betraying my heritage, one of my potential armies, and everyone in the Alienage.

*The Final Onslaught...in the Alienage*

Shianni: They're breaking through the gates!

Me: Oh, that's okay. Let them.

Shianni: What? Why -

Me: I'm making Anora queen. So these streets are gonna run with blood anyway. Might as well get a head start. Why save some lives now? Just let everyone die to the darkspawn. It's in a way a lot better than being slaughtered by your own ruler.

Shianni: I'm...I'm going this way. Taking my bottle.

Me: Have fun! Check out the Brecilian forest if you get out alive! See you!

Dang it.  Now I want to play a city elf again.  Will I ever finish the human noble?  Ever?  Seriously, I've created like three maybe four and have yet to complete any of them.

That is how I feel too. She is so refreshingly sure of herself and what she wants and never expects you to tell her what to do. And you dont really have to pamper her, if you have mutual goals she is on your side without persuading or giving her shiny baubles. Smart and capable of surviving anything without you holding her hand.

And she is not petty. I killed her loving father and she still put me in command of her armies for better good of Ferelden. When I just think about Morrigan having hissy fit because I deprived her of her demon baby last time..... wont even mention Alistair.

Wow, really? I never expected to find someone who liked her, ever! :D Yay!  I really like that she stands up for herself. It was just...so refreshing. But I like strong personalities so...and I usually like the characters no else likes, lol.

Really? Huh. I've never gotten that epilogue. She always puts Shianni on the court in mine. And in my City Elf playthrough she gave me the chance to be the Arl of the Alienage but I told my father Shianni would be the Arl instead of me and I rode off into the sunset with Lelianna and Zev.

Wonder what you did differently to get that one? The riots are usually shown in those index cards at the end.

My last character was an elf mage who specialized in the Arcane Warrior arc.  BEST CHARACTER EVER!!!!  Seriously, I don't think I had as much fun in any of the other games as I did in that one.  Woo.  She blew everybody up!  She didn't even need a team, she was good enough on her own.  Damn.

It took me awhile to figure out my arcane warrior. But I got an awesome ogre slaying animation.
