I must be waaay more of a spike (win at all costs - to pull a term from M:TG), as opposed to a timmy (focus on
simple fun) or johnny (fun = cool interactions/combos) than you guys.  Meters of all kinds, dps, threat, hps, dot timers, boss timers, are invaluable as it lets me maximize my effectiveness in WoW.  I rarely do anything just for the hell of it and anything that lets me do it better/faster I will use.  For instance, I don't think I'll ever purposely kill off wynne as that leaves me without a decent healer unless I am a mage or I use a respec mod.  Having a dedicated healer just makes the game so much smoother.  This has also helped me in health poultice usage, as in, I have never actually crafted any.  Ever.  Also, tactics.  There is always a corner case where the tactics just won't work as intended, and I can pause and play such that I am always more efficient than the tactics would ever be (except in fights with knockback).  Case in point: friend was stuck in hard mode on a revenant at lvl 14 (played it a dozen times and was about to give up).  I turned off tactics and BAM dead revenant.

I wish I could have meters in DA:O (especially threat meters).

The son is wrong about the fire line in DA:O.  It is ok, especially the fireball knockback, but I assume he has not seen a storm of the century wipe out whole squads of enemies.  I spent a good chunk of my last playthrough doing nothing but waiting for the storm to subside after it had wiped rooms of baddies.

Did the daughter not get stuck in Orzammar by doing both sides' quests until they are both just asking you what the other side is planning to do?

I think the defense for a guy playing a female character, "If I have to look at an ass all day, it better be a nice one," Is more of a line to get people off the guy's back.  More like the guy just doesn't care but a lot of people cannnot seem to grasp the idea of it.  My line of preference is, "What, you LIKE staring at a guy's ass all day?"

On a completely different note, I saw a kid a couple seats away from me, couldn't have been older than 5, play lego star wars all through a Christmas Eve Mass.  At one point I think he handed it over to his dad to beat a particularly hard part, then the dad handed it right back.  Ugh.  Wanted to smack the parents so much, although it was almost a joke how many people were in there with the same attitude towards the service.

edit: zomg screwy formatting

Heh, like I said I didnt play WoW much and it was quite some time ago; but as far as I remember that Aspect is very situational. Now I know in games I do play there are no universal tactics in beating stuff (unless you completely zerg it ofc but then its not what I prefer), so one benefits in thinking out of the box and sometimes using the parts of the toolset most of your average players would call "crap". I guess one cant expect 12 yo to understand that though. Besides it takes much more than two days to learn how to play some character to its full potential.

I use meters to judge myself more than other people. I'm more likely to complain about how awful I'm doing than scream in people's faces about how good I'm doing.

Sounds like my husband.  He's got every gadget and add on and uses them effectively.  He and I tend to play very different games, but we're both good at what we do.

I think my general point is that I don't force or expect people to play my way.  I just do what I do and if someone doesn't get it, okay.  If someone wants to use all the counters in the world and focus on DPS and make sure every moment is an efficient game play moment for their own enjoyment, I'm cool with that.

My problem comes in when someone thinks their way of playing is "right" for everyone and they're the enforcer.  And I just handle it by going away.

My son put about two days into DAO and thinks he's an expert.

I warned my daughter not to play them off each other because I knew people's games were over as a result.

Good day, here a practical message for those feeling screwed over on the bonus loot with playing dwarf nobles. If you put off all DLC, load your dwarf noble save game, save, put the DLC back to on and open the save game, you should have the bonus stuff in your pack again (work-around posted by devs in some thread somewhere, it works).

I've been playing WoW for ages and have tons of alts, all professions, and stuff. I just hate instance runs with groups. I do know a lot, since I've a knack for remembering totally random useless stuff. Sadly, I also remember which quests are where even if I didn't do them for a year or so. It does end up with leveling very efficiently though. My first love is my druid, and she has been feral even back when that wasn't supposed to be a 'normal spec'. Most fun is creating our own challenges. Like getting the Explorer title back when Wrath of the Lich King just came out, so with no flying mount or whatever. A huge repair bill and great satisfaction were the results. Totally useless but great fun.

I used to keep all my characters even level, which ended up horrifying.  Imagine all 18 characters (two realms, all classes, every trade, and every character with at least two gathering skills if no trade...) all level 35.  And all stuck in Desolace... one break from Warcraft resulted in me thinking "If I ever have to kill another centaur I'm going to branch out into actual human homicide.  Time to stop."

Unfortunately between a year or so hiatus between Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, my account got hacked and EVERYTHING removed and some of my characters flat out deleted, so I had to start over with some of them and take the rest from 70 on up.  Had to rebuild everything and that was a challenge.  To have all of my novelty pets deleted was a mess though.  Still mourn the loss of the pets I can't replace because I've done the quest already...no fairy dragon for me.

Then I started at least staggering the character levels a bit.  Instead of raising everyone in turns straight up to 80, I kept a few levels apart.  Some sanity resulted.

I'm just bloody-minded stubborn to a huge extent and I'll find a way to solo stuff if I can.  Absolutely infurating was things like "Oh, tailor trainer is in Theramore.  No problem.  But enchanter trainer is in the middle of Uldaman.  Good luck!"

WTF?  Balance much?

I'd still doggedly get it done.  Needed a group to get my enchanting up?  Fine.  Ridiculous though.

I'm so averse to grouping that my epic mounts for Warlock and Paladin were done with just me and my husband getting high enough level so I just needed the help of his 80 Paladin to get it done and our warlocks could solo Stratholme.

Did you try to get lost pets back at the stable master? Should work if you did a quest for them. (Sorry to be practical first, it's a bad habit >.<) And auch for being hacked, that seriously sucks :crying:

I totally agree with the enchanter trainer and more of that stuff. I guess you can imagine my rage when I found out I had to do some heroic run to get my epic flight form. Thankfully I had (and still have) some friends in game who actually like to raid and helped me out on that run. People who know how much I hate to do instance runs even when I know the roles and tactics in them.  I guess that one night of headache was worth the form though. Did something similar for my paladin horse mount and my husbands one (he has one main, a dwarf paladin). Also managed to get some cleared instances for silly achievements (elders in instances? wtf). I did have a half year break, so I still have some leveling to do. If I am going to.

Pets got flat out deleted.  This was back when pets took up inventory space.  So all my santa's little helpers, all the pets I'd gone to camp or quested, were gone.  Oh me, oh my.

Crafting also irritated me in Burning Crusade.  Get my tailor up to 350 only to find that the best bag probably means I have to camp spiders for the rest of my days and I'll have enough bags (which are nodrop, wth?) to suit everyone up if I concentrate on mooncloth in the next...seven years.  Because you can only make so much and it's on a timer.  Ugh.

Oh well.  I'm stubborn, as stated.  The sheer number of characters that I have and the amount of time I'll spend on something (even grouping...ugh...) is just particularly...doggedly me.  Rather like the amount of time I've invested in DAO theory and choices and themes. :D

Heh yeah that Gorim, he should've had his own achievement...

Princess Fussypants Aeducan enters Denerim for the first time.

Me: Gorim there you are! Give us a kiss and unlock the secret romance achievement!

Gorim: My Lady Aeducan, I cannot, I'm a merchant now, my leg is lame, and I got married to a nice surface dwarf lass.

Me - head goes back like I'd been socked in the kisser and I start making frowny pouty faces in consternation.

Lelianna: But, you just told me my hair was beautiful!

Alister pulls out the Eternal Rose of Lothering and begins weeping.

Leliana: Wait, how'd you get my rose from the Chantry in Lothering?

Me, finally able to speak: OMFG... so you sold my Blood Dragon Plate Armor and the sparky dagger and and uhm all that crap I stripped from you guys before we found Trian's body! YOU SOLD IT TO BECOME A FRAKKING MERCHANT!

So I pulled out my 2 hander and made sure Gorim was lame...

I don't play WoW. I play Guild Wars. I'm too cheap for WoW. But I hate playing with people outside our Guild. The core of our Guild is a group of us that have been online friends forever from a Wheel of Time discussion site (where I met my husband). We roleplay, but it's old hat now, as we all know our characters. It's like a permanent campaign. I'm on a Dragon Age/Mass Effect break though. After 4 years, the same game gets old, whether you're playing with friends or not.

So, I have no clue what any of y'all are talking about except in the vaguest sense. :)

I am a nomad.  I usually don't play a character for more than an hour or so, a couple of quests, and then I'm off to another character.  Probably another realm or another game.  Me having my own guild used to help my husband find me because I'm afk all the time and then if I am on at all, I won't be the same character for long.

Games for me are pretty much a business expense, though.  When I'm playing or posting, I'm probably also working.

It's got a very Rocky Horror quality for me now.

Like I should yell "Duncan!" instead of Brad and "Flemeth!" instead of Janet.

Well, at that point in the game I usually have to destroy them because by the time I make it through the wilds I'm full of Chasind loot and such.

But yes, usually I would sell them.  First game though I kept wondering why the wolf pelts were special and held onto them forever and now I just don't loot them or destroy them.  Personal grudge.
