Yeah, that was a bit disturbing. Especially since if you look, their eyes follow the corpse down the well.

My Cousland girl took one look at the blood and went, "Ew." She didn't drink it. I figured someone who begins the game in PINK (!) armor would be a little squeamish.

I think that's the funny part about playing the game over and over and thinking that certain things are going to result in crisis moments where certain party members will certainly leave you or take issue...

What?  Nothing?

I avoided side quests and exp for several games worth and NOTHING?

Dammit!

I feel that the thread has come full circle. We go from Psychic Awareness of what's going to happen after 5+ playthroughs to knowing what's going to happen and expecting a reaction from party member, and not getting one. In retrospect, you'd expect some kind of reaction while robbing houses from the occupants, to say nothing of your party members. Realism only goes so far in video games, I suppose. Really, there isn't going to be a single instance where I get attacked or yelled at for? Nowhere?

I mean, sure, the merchant in Haven will attack you for exploring his shop, but that's for entirely different, rather sloppy reasons.

I was still surprised as hell at watching my daughter's playthrough.  At a certain point it takes a different mind playing to get different results.

For me playing the game is a bit like being lured out onto a lake where you're convinced the ice is solid, only to be herded into that one spot where there's a hot spring underneath and you're going to fall through no matter what.

I can just hear Nelson from The Simpsons in my head.  "Ha Ha!."

Only replace "hot spring" with "angry hurlocks". And "Nelson" with "Archdemon".

Or "hot spring" with "Alistair hissy" and "Nelson" with "Morrigan hissy" and then vaguely irritated deep sigh directed at Riordan for not cluing me in just that little bit earlier.

You'd think he could've said "Hey, we need a sacrificial lamb in order to kill the Archdemon." before Loghain's fate is sorted out. Really, it's a horrible plan in the first place.

"Hey, one out of the three of us have to kill the Archdemon, or else it'll just find a new body and keep on killing everything. So let's march this entire army to a city that's probably already wiped out and hope one of the three guys lives long enough to kill it, or else EVERYONE DIES. Let's not, you know, wait for the other wardens before sacrificing the combined armies of pretty much every nation on this side of the world. In fact, let's have the three guys lead the charge into the ruined city, that sounds like a good idea."

Dude suggesting this plan would be bludgeoned to death on the spot. But in a video game, hell, one guy levels up to the point where he can solo armies anyway so we, the players, don't even bat an eye. We're not even surprised that even if the entire game is about building up an army, we're going to end up fighting more or less alone.

I KNOW!  That always freaks me out.  The first several games I screened all of the quests for morality and my "good" character wouldn't accept anything that looked shady.

Man, was I playing the wrong game...

That and the fact that you can breeze through Warden's Keep and drink the blood...no backlash.  I didn't even try it until my husband drank it and absolutely no problem.  WHAT?!

Clearly I get too immersed and I care too much and I'm not changing that, but it did sorta make me lose respect for Alistair when I'm dumping bodies and drinking blood.

Me:  Really?
Alistair:  What?
Me:  I just dumped a body down a well.  Nothing?
Alistair:  I'm sure you had your reasons.
Me:  You didn't even notice.  I swear you were looking at your manicure.
Alistair:  Well, when your dog snapped at me, look, there's a scab.

I avoided a lot of the things the first time around 'cause I didn't want all my people getting mad at me.  The only person who seems to care about what you're doing is Morrigan, and naturally she disagrees with all the good things you're trying to do.  I'm most surprised by Alistair about the stealing since he mentions that he once got pickpocketed whilst in Denerim.  I'm surprised by the blood concoction.  I haven't tried it yet.  I figured Wynne would go ballistic on me.  Next time I guess.

The part I like the least in the final battle (or maybe I should say the armies I like least) are those stupid ranged attackers.  The first time I went up against the archdemon I did what the official game guide said.  Which ended up as me and my team fighting ALL the darkspawn on the tower and the ranged attackers (Elf or Mage) just standing around doing nothing.  Needless to say, instant death.  The first time I defeated the Archdemon was by accident.  I had been using the dwarves and I was waiting for them to all die off.  So I'm running around waiting.  I see there are three left.  I thought it was a fluke because I didn't see anyone.  I go over to the other side and there's Kardol and two other dwarves killing off all the darkspawn.  We finally kill the rest of the darkspawn and the Archdemon makes it's final move.  I ended up defeating it with just my team, and the three dwarves.  All those armies and all it took was a couple of dwarves.  Pff...I guess we don't need to do all those quests after all.

*At Lothering*

Alistair: Ahh...Lothering, pretty as a painting.
PC: Eh, it's only a model.
Alistair: *confused look*.
PC: Uh yeah, so anyway, all these treaties, we don't really need them.
Alistair: What?  Why?  We need all the help we can get!
PC: No not really.  The elves suck, the mages suck and the Arl's men are just fodder for the darkspawn.
Alistair: But...
PC: Let's just go to Orzammar and get the Legion of the Dead.  That's all we really need.  Think of all the time we'll save.  Might even catch the Archdemon by surprise.
Alistair: What about Lothering?
PC: Meh.
Alistair: What about....
PC: You dare to question the omnipitance of your leader!  I might just have to let you sacrifice yourself to the Archdemon!
Alistair: Uh...sorry?
PC: It's alright darling.  Shall we?
*group leaves Lothering*

Later....
PC is asleep in her tent...
PC: Oh snap!  Leliana!  Oops...*shrugs*.
PC goes back to sleep

Ahhh, I actually sat and read through all 62 pages of this. This thread is awesome. You guys need to put this kind of writing into an banter mod. I'd download it in a heartbeat. Please let there be an option to both pinch Alistair's ass and continue Dog's tradition of putting half eaten rabbits in Morrigan's underthings.

Morrigan: This is the fifth time that mangy mutt has left his... gifts in my clothing!

Me: Yes, it is. Bad Dog! No biscuit!

Dog: *whine*

*when Morrigan leaves*

Me: Sorry for making you take the fall. You get extra beef bones today.

Dog: *happy bark!*

Did you all not know about f5 and f9 on your first playthrough?  They became my bffs in the game as soon as I saw them in the manual.

Hmmm, what happens if I....*hits f5*:
release kitty, *alistair hissy fit* f9.... try to kill kitty but kitty possesses girl, *morrigan AND alistair hissy fit*, f9...kill kitty outright, *Morrigan hissy fit* f9.....kill kitty after lying to her, *morrigan hissy fit*....screw it good enough.
defile the sacred ashes...*kill wynne*, *unlock reaver*, f9.....leave ashes, *kill kolgrim*, *summon dragon*, f9 ad nauseum until deciding lvl 10 probably isn't high enough ><

I realize if you are trying to play in character it is harder to justify this, but I'd rather have complete information than stay in character and miss out on potential good stuff.  You can always f9 if it's not good enough to justify going out of character =p

Going back, since I took too long to catch up on this thread ><  I've never had anything but an spca dog and all 8 have been great except one who was 2 years old already.  Even then all she did was runrunrunrunrun (we'd get calls from miles away because they saw and called the # on her tag).  3 dead on the road though, the runner being one of them =(  100s of acres of woods/fields to the north, south, east...but they all love to go west to the road =/  Our current two we've had since 6 months, now 10 1/2 and 11, and they are the most wonderful friends to have.  Moral: rescues are great as long as you get them before 9 months.

I've noticed that.  I had an aquaintance of mine who got rescue animals too.  They had a dog who was the sweetest thing ever, but she would freak when they would take her outside.  Her previous owners left her somewhere or something so she was afraid she would be abandoned again.  She also had a lot of pent up energy from refusing to go on walks.  Other then that she was great.

All my pets have been of the "free cat to good home" variety. All two of them.

First ended up being a demon cat who would flay everyone else but loved me and would sleep on my back (or my head) every night.  We'd have to throw him in the pool every few months when he started to smell so he'd get cleaned off, and he'd start paddling in the air and manage to make it so his head was always completely dry.  Ended up having to put him to sleep. :crying:

Second and current cat was given to me when I worked at a convenience store. They'd given away all his brothers and sisters and thought he was deaf, since he was white with blue eyes and... wasn't that responsive. I decided to take him anyway, he was too much of a cute little fuzzball not to. Turns out he's not deaf and his eyes are now a pretty yellow-green color. Nervous as all get out though and hides behind me whenever anyone visits.

Also, thought of this while I was making breakfast:

Me: Hmmm... a golem. Let me fiddle with this rod here... oh! Look!  A button! *presses it*

Shale: *comes to life, eyes flash eerily* EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINAAATE!

Alistair: Why do you do this? You always press the shiny buttons and then there is the running and the screaming and the bleeding and... :crying:

Shale: YOU ARE AN INFERIOR SPECIES!

Me: I can't help it! It's a disease! Now run. I prefer you in one piece. I also prefer to be in one piece.

Adoption notices for Party Members:

Alistair - Posted by Arl Eamon

Free to anyone else's home but mine. Slightly used and neglected boy. Quirky sense of humor. Likes to lock himself in cages. Affectionate but prone to biting the hand that feeds him.

Alistair - Posted by Duncan:

Free to a patient home. One bereft Grey Warden. Hours of puzzle fun trying to unlock his secrets. (They will never unlock, that's part of the fun!) Proximity to Orzammar a plus.

Morrigan - Posted by Flemeth

Must go now. Broken in little girl. Will do dishes, cook and go on homicidal rampages on request. Slight tendency to backtalk. Okay. Lots of backtalk, and check the food for poison. Free to a home that believes in subjugation. No smokers.

So I started a new game last night to try out a build I haven't played yet, and as I played I found myself choosing dialogue options at random and spamming the escape key to get through it.   When I get to fights now, the first thought in my head is "This encounter, AGAIN?!"  This can only mean one thing.  I think it is time for me to seek my entertainment elsewhere.  There is still an ending I haven't seen, and some more achievements to unlock but I have plenty of saved games on plenty of characters with which to get that done now.

Oh, I'll certainly download and play Return to Ostagar when it's available and any other DLC Bioware releases, and I will definately keep an eye on the modding community.   I thought about downloading the toolset myself to create my own adventures, but no.  I got involved in modding a game once, and to this day I can't just play that game and enjoy it anymore.  I don't want to go through that with Dragon Age.

It has been a blast.  Bioware said that DA:O would be the spiritual successor to BG2, and in one aspect they were certainly right, for no game since BG2 has kept me occupied for so long.  There are a lot of little things about Dragon Age that I don't like, many of which have been discussed here, but overall it's the best RPG, hell the best game I've played in a long time.

Special thanks to everyone who participated in this thread.  You guys are all awesome.  Image IPB

Oh, God, don't remind me.  I'm trying to finish this last play through of DA:O because I have to re-get all my achievements I had from the other XBOX which died on us. Thank God for Best Buy's replacement plan!  (Unless someone can tell me they don't actually matter?)

That would be more plausibly bad if it wasn't the only plan left thanks to Loghain's awesomely tactical political maneuvering. Riordan does tell you the Wardens have likely written Fereldan off due to probable civil war at that point and that they definitely won't get there in time to help you with Denerim.

You shouldn't have to. Were you logged into your 360 with your Xbox Live profile? That should upload to the servers no matter what. When you get your new 360 just log in with your Live account and everything should be fine.

Nope.  We only have the one live account.  My husband's.  I didn't bother getting a second.  All his achievements are there.  But my canon Shepard is gone.
