Unfortunately, I monitor my cup and gpu temps now, and something Mass Effect does drives my gpu nuts and I exit the game in a few minutes when it hits 90C, no other game I've recently played does that... probably explains how my first gpu melted!
Incidentally, I got the the first civvie doctor hiding in her RV trailer, and the first thing she says is "Thank the Maker!" whoa

"Hey, one out of the three of us have to kill the Archdemon, or else it'll just find a new body and keep on killing everything. So let's march this entire army to a city that's probably already wiped out and hope one of the three guys lives long enough to kill it, or else EVERYONE DIES. Let's not, you know, wait for the other wardens before sacrificing the combined armies of pretty much every nation on this side of the world. In fact, let's have the three guys lead the charge into the ruined city, that sounds like a good idea."
Dude suggesting this plan would be bludgeoned to death on the spot. But in a video game, hell, one guy levels up to the point where he can solo armies anyway so we, the players, don't even bat an eye. We're not even surprised that even if the entire game is about building up an army, we're going to end up fighting more or less alone.
That would be more plausibly bad if it wasn't the only plan left thanks to Loghain's awesomely tactical political maneuvering. Riordan does tell you the Wardens have likely written Fereldan off due to probable civil war at that point and that they definitely won't get there in time to help you with Denerim.
Move to Orlais. Clearly, the Wardens there are treated better anyway. You know, not lead to their deaths and abandoned. I don't really see why I should even bother to help Fereldan, seeing as the vast majority of starting zones leave you pretty bitter towards your own race anyway. Besides, the city is pretty much destroyed; the only survivors are in the Alienage. Poor Shiani. Oh well, moving right along.
Yeah, that's my plan. Move to Orlais. Meet more redheaded chicks with sexy accents. Ones that don't harp on about the Maker. Try and become a Chevalier so I can slaughter peasants on a whim. Let some old Warden from Orlais be the one to die. Combine the haphazardly assembled army I gathered with the might of Orlais. I don't particularly give a crap if the Orlesians actually DO reconquer Fereldan. Maybe they'll give me a prize and a title for handing it over. And then kill Loghain, so he can know that he caused exactly what he was trying to prevent.
Good times.

I'll probably pick up a copy of Mass Effect 2 when it comes out. I've built myself a new computer since the last time I played Mass Effect and didn't bother backing up any saved games or anything so I'll probably play through Mass Effect at least once before then. It's funny, I hated Mass Effect when I first got it. The more I played it, the more it grew on me, and now it's one of my favorites.
So far I...suck...at Mass Effect. I can see why I put it down the first time. It's a tech game and I can't really figure out how to make stuff work. And it took me about four times to find all the charges set at the beginning because it...all looks alike. "Oh look, a metal ramp. Leading to another...metal ramp. Oh hey! Metal ramp. And...*explode* I keep trying to find an option to switch to other party members and can't find it for the life of me. Couldn't manage several tutorial steps. "What do you mean order him to do something, he just ran like hell thataway. That is not strategic. WTF?" *steps from cover and blams everything to death*
I hate timed stuff, I hate squad tactics (I much prefer setting everybody to do stuff and then...charge!)
Even in my rogue playthrough in DAO on higher difficulties, I just died so much due to impatience with having to micromanage battle. I mostly just want the story, and the battle so far is clunky and irritating and I can't figure stuff out.
I don't like taking cover, I can't seem to hit anything when I "pop" out of cover and back down. Gonna take some practice and it's just not my favorite thing in the world right now. But I shall persevere on the assumption that the story and ME2 will make it worth my while.

And you ask the merchant up top how often he goes down and he says every six months or so.
What gets me about dwarves is the complete inability to compensate for...farming. How do they eat? WHAT do they eat?
Lichen doesn't grow that damned fast and it has very little nutritive value.

It would have genuinely been hard for me to gain any sympathy for the helpless venality that is the essence of Ferelden.
Were it not for the puppy and Alistair, I wouldn't have gotten very far at all. Given that level of cynical whatever, I probably would have made my way to Antiva and joined the Crows.

Oooh. That's a good question. I remember a reference from the "idle dwarf" (Why does every other NPC that you interact with for a quest have a name, but not this guy?) the ones near the city eat garbage, but the ones further out don't. Which makes for very creepy, because as far as I know, the only thing further out is... darkspawn? Urghh.

Yeah, I was down in the deep roads. Not a lot of vegetation.
And how do you get food garbage if there's no food?
This bit always bothered me about dwarven culture. Apparently the only people who entirely disdain and cannot develop their own means of farming. How they're not slaves to the closest tribe with basic gathering skills escapes me.
And they're up in the Frostback mountains. Did not look arable.
Weird.

There's a couple fights that always seem to get me hung up, but for the most part I just BLAM through everything in sight. My first playthrough was... Infiltrator, I think? The class with Combat / Tech class. Sniped the hell out of everything. I tend to keep forgetting the abilities I have, honestly. Let my sidekicks do the tech / biotic powers. So my second playthrough was, of course, Soldier and I just ate everything alive with the assault rifle.
Right now, the big conundrum I face is whether I should buy an Xbox 360 (as right now all I have for gaming is the Wii and my comp) or just assume / hope ME2 will look fine on my comp. And forego other fun games; ME has me wanting to try out some gratuitous FPS action. And I need to decide soon, while I can still preorder.
Note: Accuracy is hell early on. Once you get some better weapons, you'll hit stuff a lot better. It's the most painful part of starting over. Hope the new one's main campaign is longer; I'm a story guy. I'm not going to spend countless hours unlocking every little thing, locating side quests in a very extended universe, and searching desolate planets wherein nothing happens. Got through the main missions in ME1 in about 10-11 hours last time through...

Cool, thanks. I'm going to have to keep going.
I remember playing it through the first time and I think I just got frustrated through the beginning. I was playing a male and there was some sort of blue chick saying something about how sexual identity was...I dunno, I shut it off. Just too much to have to deal with, to have to be a guy that can't shoot at anything straight, and then end up having some blue chick I don't want to sleep with, that I don't think is the slightest bit sexy, try to lecture me about my sexual identity or something and I just turned it off and walked away.
I'll try to be in a better mood this time. I'll try to be patient with blue chick when I encounter her.
But for all of Bioware's "progressive" sexual identity, they still really treat the players like they're 14 year old male virgins. *sigh*
I'VE HAD SEX, PEOPLE. It isn't a mystery. Geeez.

Me: Oghren, pass me some more ale.
Oghren: This elfroot stuff. It's....*cough* It's raw.
Me: I wonder if it'll take care of the hangover we're earning.
Oghren: Sten? Sten! Try this.
Sten: Drunken dwarves. Wonderful. I wonder if the cage is still there. I could go visit better times.
Me: Oh, c'mon, Sten. Come have a drink.
Sten: No.
Me: Eloquent as ever.
Alistair: How did it go, in the forest?
Me: Oh, great. Danyla's alive and suffering, the Grand Oak is dead and there are a lot less elves in the world.
Oghren: *looks at me and starts to laugh*
Me: *starts to laugh back*
Alistair: So...it went well then?
Me: Oh yeah. Sit yourself down and have a drink.
Alistair: No, I think I'll...go read Duncan's journal.
Me: Oh, okay. You do that. Get me an ale before you go?
Alistair hands over an ale with an icy look and then walks away. Oghren and I start to giggle maniacally.
Oghren: You putting him in a skirt next? Oh. Right. Purple skirt.
Me: He was already furnished.
*drunken giggling continues*
Sten: I hate Ferelden.

Maybe the dwarves eat rocks. You know, boil 'em, mash em, stick 'em in a stew or something.
"Hey! What's for dinner?"

Mammals that eat limestone. Well...freaky.

Why then can't I eat limestone? Can I? I want to eat limestone.

I say go for it! There's gotta be some great nutritional value in it to keep all those dwarves alive and stocky. And like my Mamma always told me, you are what you eat, which would explain the golems. Maybe I could be a golem if I ate limestone?
