If you could help me out in my ignorance, what...exact...titles am I looking for?  Going to Amazon and typing in "Baldur's Gate" gets me at least 20 different choices...as does "Neverwinter Nights"

The number of games that have been remade in different franchises is confusing as hell.

If there was a KOTOR online...yeah, I'd give it a try :)

Basically, if there's ANYTHING following the name "Baldur's Gate" or "Neverwinter Nights" then it's an expac. lol. Like I said, "Neverwinter Nights Diamond" would be the full game and all expacs. If they continue to use that naming scheme, a baldur's gate gold/diamond would be the base game a bunch of expacs. A collection. Personally, never really played Baldur's Gate 1. Number 2 I played a bit, but never got into it. Party-wide babysitting bad. So I couldn't help you with the names for that one.

They're making a Kotor Online, based on the Kotor 3 plot that got scrapped if I heard correctly. There's a trailer and everything. Lucas wants those royalty checks, and Galaxies isn't doing so hot.

Looks like Bioware is involved, even. Maybe.

They are working on the KOTOR MMORPG. My husband's been keeping tabs on it. But the animation style looks like that awful crap they drew for the Clone Wars. Yuck.

It remains less cartoony than WoW. I approve.

The original Baldur's Gate games are:

Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn.

The expansions for each of them are:
Baldur's Gate:  Tales of the Sword Coast
Baldur's Gate 2: The Throne of Bhaal.

Hope that helps you find them.  Finding the original game is going to be tough.  It's pretty old.  Really, the only reason to play the original is for the story anyway.  The game mechanics and npc interactiion are nowhere near as good as they are in BG2.

Baldur's Gate did feel pretty slow when I first played it.  Getting from level 1 to 2 seemed to take FOREVER, but after that the pace wasn't so bad.  You'll need to get into the habit of quick saving before and after every fight, especially at the beginning when you only have 6-10 hit points so a single lucky blow from an enemy could drop you.  Unlike these modern games, it's game over if the protagonist dies.  Your party can't continue without you.  Of course, that just means you reload your last save.  Hence the spamming of the quick save key.

There were no romances and very little npc interaction in the first game, but there are player written mods out there that add that content to it.  Unmodded, BG2 has 3 possible romance options for male characters, but only 1 for females.  Again, there are tons of mods out there that add more content and despite the fact that game is over 10 years old, the modding community is still active.  Check out spellholdstudios.net and gibberlings3.net.

I rather liked the gameplay, as it was very well suited to the "buff everybody up and send in the clowns" style of play.  The boss fights and some of the more difficult encounters required some coordination and strategy to beat, but for most encounters you can just cast some buffs on your melee characters and send them charging in, then cast a few well placed spells with your mage and healer.  Or if playing a mage or sorceror yourself, use the fog of war to your advantage to cast your most powerful AoE's and have your melee characters play defense.  Remember my missed "defend this area comman?"  It can also be used to "defensd this character."  Very handy.

Yay!  Thank you, yes, that will help.   I should be able to track those down on Amazon if I narrow it down some.

I'm taking a break from online play and from console play because I just got the best graphics card and the most storage space no my PC I've ever seen.

I'm even warming up to ME after a few hours of futzing around trying to find things.  I'm persistent.

I never made it through that one, but I'm considering getting an old copy from Gamefly.

I remember when I first rented it, it locked up my X-Box over and over and I fell out of love with Microsoft.  I'd also heard the story wasn't as good as the original, so I gave up easy.

With lowered expectations and a 360, I might make it through.

The story of KOTOR2 is deffinately it's weakest point. I only completed the game twice myself, once as light side and then again as dark. The best thing about it in my opinion was the prestige classes for the Jedi and Sith. Of course, now I can only remember the two that I played; Jedi Master and Sith Inquisitor.

It seems like most of the Jedi and Sith classes in The Old Republic are derived from the classes in the KOTOR games, so at the very least going through the games again might give you some idea of what to expect from the Jedi and Sith in the MMO.

The only thing I would have gone Dark Side in KOTOR for was the chance to see Atton Rand take out Disciple. God, I hated Disciple (and Atton was just better). (There was an audio clip floating around for awhile with Atton's and Disciple's dialogue during that scene, no video, though. They had to cut it.)

Exactly. There's a reason "The Old Republic" is part of the title of "Knights of the Old Republic." It's set in that universe, so those classes would carry over pretty naturally. I'd like to see more classes though, since there's basically 4 and their opposite faction counterparts.

Be interesting to see how they construct the MMO, though. I'm pretty bored with WoW.

Well, the force powers/biotic stuff is fun.

As long as I get to be SOME kind of caster.  Psychic tech or magic, I don't care.  Let me kill something with my mind and I'm happy.

I find it amusing, that in the Sloth Demon cutscene, Wynne is telling everyone to resist, but once in the dream she is so easily fooled.  I can understand Alistair and Leliana, they're not mages, but Wynne?  Come on man.  Morrigan isn't fooled.  Shame on you Wynne, shame....

*After the City Gates in Denerim heading out*

Shale: Have fun storming the castle!

PC: Thanks Shale (runs off through the crowd of cheering soldiers.)

Leliana: Think it'll work?

Shale: They'll need a miracle.

Wait, you could set some semblance of tactics in BG2? What about Icewind Dale and NWN? I would have loved that since melee wasn't nearly as complicated as DA and I would have actually used it in those games ><

SW:TOR has a fun little webcomic, although it really lowers your expectations for the jedi. For example, the head of the jedi fights a bounty hunter and somehow can't anticipate a mini-missile and gets blown to bits. One good thing is that the game is supposed to use story as a MAJOR component.

857 gold in the last playthrough (although most of it was spent on items to unlock their lore in the codex), no cheats or 'tricks' like doing traps or lyrium potion stuff over and over. Those wolf pelts really add up in the end =p I see your island and raise you....I really don't know. We already get an arldom and warden's keep. I guess an armada to assure you evil-overlord-of-thedas staus?

What I can't figure out is how the Dwarves go there (PC or Oghren) - dwarves who do not dream and don't go there in death.

What's with that?

I avoided helping people or talking to them entirely in the previous game, so I pretty much ONLY did the bare minimum main quests.  Didn't even make it to level 20 and ran straight through zones, avoiding people as much as possible.

The number of people I ran straight by and didn't talk to is...staggering.  I think that was my absolute minimum possible to even complete the game.

I even intended to LOSE Landsmeet.

Me: Okay. It's the New Year. I know usually time has no meaning, but we're all going to have New Year's resolutions. Oghren. What do you think?
Oghren: I think I'll drink more.
Me: That doesn't seem possible, how about drinking...less?
Oghren: You celebrate your holidays your way, I celebrate mine my own way.
Me: *sigh* Morrigan, I think you should move closer to camp and become socialized.
Morrigan: *takes a step back*
Me: And what is with the blood vials?
Morrigan: *rolls her eyes and stalks to her tent*
Me: Excellent. Nice moment we had. Wynne. I want you to stop referring to your age.
Wynne: I shall try, although I am old and set in my ways.
Me: Sten. You need to help out around camp. Cooking, cleaning...
Sten: Women's work.
Me: So all this crap about honor and warriorhood is all about not cleaning up after yourself?
Sten: It is part of our code.
Me: Zevran. Help me out here. You seem vaguely sane. What do you want in the new year?
Zevran: I'm sorry, were you talking? I was staring at your breasts.
Me: Right. Gotcha. Shale?
Shale: I vow to make a greater effort to disdain fleshy creatures.
Me: You're right on top of that, I see. Alistair?
Alistair: Has it been a year? I remember when I was with some Grey Wardens at a New Year's celebration and there were candles and dancing and...and...*eye crinkles* *looks away with tears sparkling in his eyes*
Me:  Leliana.  How about being responsible for your own behavior and your own choices?
Leliana:  I shall pray to the Maker that it be so.
Me: Bloody hell. I see I'm going to have to resolve to not hold fictional characters to any standards of behavior whatsoever. I'm going to go have a drink with Dog.
