Alistair and Leliana are a breeze

That's actually one of the things I don't like about the romances in Dragon Age. They're too easy.

PC: You're prettier than most Chantry sisters I've ever seen, Leliana.

Leliana: OMG, I love you too!

PC: Uh.... what?

PC: That was an. . . interesting story, Morrigan. If I were a mage, I'd probably feel the same way about the Chantry and the Templar.

Morrigan: Let's go to bed together!

PC: Um, no? I don't even know you. We just met like 2 minutes ago.

Yeah, Morrigan is very abrupt and so is Zevran.

Leliana and Alistair are easy to get started and then they sort of pace themselves.

To be honest, getting Zevran to bed you, doesn't mean you are seriously romancing him, it just means that he has determined that you are vaguely humanoid...

It's true!

With Zevran I got the achievement...uh..without really knowing what was going on.

I was just being nice...

I still think the post from this guy who had mistaken what Zevran meant when he suggested massage and had his eyes pop, when he got the cutscene is among the most hilarious things I've read on this forum.Posted Image

But with the massage, he clearly asks for permission to go further.

Sounds like denial.

Me: Maybe. Why?
Alistair: Um. You do know you're not a mage, right?
Me: OH! Am I an elf today? Do I look like an elf?
Alistair: Is this a trick question?
Me: Trust me, when I'm a human mage, you think this is a great idea.
Alistair: ...
Alistair: That's it. I'm hiding the lyrium stash.

It's hard to not take it personally when he doesn't remember me.  But he just won't have sex up against the pillars in Ostagar and I think that's a missed opportunity.

*deep sigh*

I really agree.

Also, this is what I get for playing multiple games at once.

I agree, too.  I mean, all those tents!  And the king's not even using his!  He's out playing with the other Grey Wardens.  I just want to play with one!

Alistair: is everything all right? You keep staring at that ring Bann Teagan gave you. We haven't camped in days and I need to talk to you about--

Me: did you see how close he stood to me on the docks during the service at Redcliffe? Oh wait, you didn't, because no one else was anywhere near us.

Alistair: Didn't he give you that ring to open the secret passage?

Me: You gave me a rose and haven't invited me back to your tent yet.

Alistair: but that's what I wanted to--

Me: Let me have this moment.

Leliana a breeze? 2 out my 4 times through the game she's gone super cold to me. This last time I even got to the "your hair is pretty" bit and responded...appropriately but soon after I don't even have any dialogue options. And it's been long since I was supposed to be ambushed. Ugh. Maybe because I was going for Alistair at the same time?

And for the life of me I can't figure out the 3/4somes at the pearl. Every time it's "don't you remember what we have together!" Probably since I've already slept with one or more at that point. And I'm like, "Yeah! so let's take it up a notch! Two ladies One lamp post, what's not to like?" Or for Leliana it's, "Oh come ON, you know you used to freakier stuff back in the Chantry." But that isn't a dialogue option =(

Leliana is pretty easy to romance, especially if you're not sleeping with anyone else. To get her to agree to a threesome with Isobella, she has to be at Love and she has to hardened. If you want it, don't go to the Pearl until you've met those two conditions.

Both Leliana and Morrigan have a means to start up their romance again if you've ended it, intionally or otherwise. Morrigan's is the golden mirror in Orzammar. Leliana's is her dialogue after confronting Marjolaine, but you have to choose very specific options.

"You miss her..."

"She was important you to you...."

"Someday, I hope to mean as much to you as she did..."

Other than, she's easy. You don't even really have to try. Just talk to her a lot and be nice and she'll love you.

To be fair, the Morrigan romance isn't complete until she STOPS sleeping with you.

Yes, that's true. My point is that it seems far too easy to get the romanceable party members to like you. You can have both Leliana and Morrigan up to Adore literally seconds after they join your party if you know which dialogue options to choose and spam esc while they're talking.  Well, you'll need a couple of gifts for Lel too, but still....

Compare that to, say BG2, which had two separate timers for romance dialogue. Without cheating, it would take the entire game for a BG2 romance to come to fuition. You really had to be patient and work at it. Bioware seems to have discarded that model in favor of more immediate gratification.

Still beats the Mass Effect romance. So, uh, yeah... maybe they're moving back in the right direction? Idk. Somehow I just feel that getting a girlfriend in a game should be easier than getting a girlfriend irl.

Fair enough. And anyway, the only way to get the girls you like you as quickly as I said in my previous post is by using meta gaming knowledge. So I guess I wasn't being fair. As I believe I said at some point in this thread (like 30 pages ago or something), the pace of romance in rpg's is probably accelerated intentionally. It can take weeks, months, or sometimes years for a relationship to fully blossom in reality, but players can finish a game in a matter of hours or days.

I actually did enjoy the Dragon Age romances my first time through, although my romance with Leliana that time was inadvertant. I had intended to romance Morrigan. I was just trying to be nice to Leliana. I ended up getting both of them. I didn't understand how that first time, but now that I know how to do it intentionally I find it very hard to not use that knowledge.

It's funny, in reality I always know almost immediately upon meeting someone and talking to them, whether or not I would consider that person in a romantic sense.

I'm definitely at least a "potential love at first talk" person. If I don't get that spark, there's no way giving it time will make me feel all that different about it.

And it's not about sight.

I agree. You know the first date if this is someone you are interested in or not. Those month's it takes in real life is just because you don't get the same feedback you get in the game. All the times I wish the girl had had a little sign saying xxxx approve +2 or a card where you could she if she was at interested, neutral or just warm.´would certainly have sped up things considerably...

/Edit... That is really a bit of a peeve of mine. I think the game gives way too much feedback on the romances. It should be possible to have situations where you think she doesn't like you, but in reality she does.

Well, since I'm usually only hanging out with someone I'd have fun with either way, sex or talking or movies or games or whatever...

Not a problem.

I don't understand why someone would hang out with someone whose company they can't stand in the meantime, waiting for sex to happen.

I actually didn't mean sex. I was thinking more about the the time between the first time you met someone and the first date, if you see what I mean.

I guess I'm not a traditional dater in any way.

In my case it has mostly involved meeting someone online and becoming friends and phone buddes before someone grabs an airline ticket or something of that sort.

Fair I guess. I think I spent too much time in my youth trying to analyze conversations with girls I happen to meet at school/parties/work and too little time actually asking them. I have heard afterwards that I probably missed a lot of opportunities because girls didn't even think I was interested in them, because I couldn't work up the nerve to flirt, even though I usually talk a lot.

You're not alone.  I've seen lots of people that are the same way.  Especially folks focusing on the words and not all the body language that goes with it.

Even online I've seen guys being clearly STALKED by women, and the guys are entirely clueless about it.

That is a probably a part of it. On the whole I think I have a very "expressive" body language. So whenever someone has a more muted body language I just don't pick it up. And then people simply don't expect someone who talks a lot to be shy.

Right.  It's usually the eyes and whether or not someone tries to touch you while you're talking, like...if you tell a joke and someone puts their hand on your arm to say "that's so funny!"
