Yup. Someone just noticed the ME2 profile photos. I'll give you one guess who.

Cool.  Couple nice ones of Jack and Samara in there.  I've started what will probably be my final run through ME2.  Not sure what I'll do after that.  Maybe pick up a copy of Heavy Rain.... Been hearing some good things about it.

Meh. I can't pick the ME2 profile photos simply because I have the Xbox version of ME2. :(

Yeah, they sneak that registration stuff in on you. You have to register the game, and set up your forum account, but they don't put 2 and 2 together and register the game TO your forum account.

This has been such a fun thread to read. I can't believe I actually read all 99 pages! Surely there is an achievement for such and accomplishment?

Now for an off topic question- Does anybody know what the icons to the left of the forum listings mean or where I can find out? Like the difference between white and yellow pages, flames, what looks like a little clock, etc. I need to know these things.

Flames means the thread is "hot"- it has a lot of replies (like this one).
Yellow page means there are unread posts in the thread, while white means there are no new posts.
Paperclip thingy on the bottom left corner means it's a stickied thread.

That's all there is to it.

*At the entrance to denerim for the final battle*

Me: Wait a minute! Riordan?

Riordan:yes?

Me: Did you just activate Dueling?

Riordan: Yes.

Me: Then you know Isabella!

Riordan: Oh yes indeed....quite often.

Zevran: Oh then you know about that thing she does with her tongue?

Riordan: And the hip swivel.

Zevran: I taught her that.

Riordan: Oh I should thank you.

Me: Agreed.

Alistair: Who-wha? I'm not listening...lalalalalalalalala

All: Prude.

Thanks.  I am one of those people that needs to know what all the little icons mean.  If I don't, I go crazy trying to find out. There should be a legend or something.

I know that in the  scope of things it really isn't that important, but there it is.

Bypassing is easy even when completely hammered. It's that hacking thing I  can't wrap my head around. What I  think is the correct code sequence the game tells me otherwise.

I think it's a byproduct of being an impatient drunk.

So I just bought KotOR 2, on account of being bored with present game options... yeah, it's not working. I've uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times. I refuse to think it's a hardware issue, on account of my computer being able to play ME2 & DA:O without a problem. Trying to launch the game does seem to shut off my dvd drive though... that's odd.

I couldn't get KOTOR to run on my PC.  Let me know if you fix that.  I'm bummed.

It's my understanding that these games have trouble running on Vista. Which is an entirely separate problem from what I'm having, sadly. You should be able to find a service page to ask for help if you haven't tried that.

Getting any error messages when you try to launch the game?

I'm getting a very generic one. And, like I said, when I try to start the game my dvd drive seems to go offline. As in "eject button doesn't work."

"abnormal program termination" is all the message really tells me. With the program in question being the .exe file.

I would look in the event viewer logs for more detailed information, then consult the all knowing Google for possible solutions.

the what now?

Ok, I found the logs. But I don't see anything that's labeled with the file in question.

Eh, event viewer is kind of hit and miss in my experience. Usually if a program crashes but generates and error message you'll find an entry for it in the event viewer application or system logs, but not every program generates a log entry. Then the logs themselves sometimes contain exactly the information you need to diagnose and correct the problem, and other times are nothing but technical gibberish, usually including a long hexidecimal error code that doesn't mean anything to anybody, even the guy who wrote the program. It's always worth looking though, and it's my starting point for troubleshooting a program that's crashing.

The next place to look would be logs created by the application itself, but I don't know if KOTOR creates any logs or where they'd be located. You could spend some time trying to find them, but there's no gaurantee that they exist or that they'll be helpful. Browsing the official KOTOR tech support thread at Bioware's main page might more fruitful. If all else fails, there's the tech support last resort: Type the error message, the program name, and the operating system into Google and see what comes up.

There were a lot of issues with 3rd party (i.e., not Microsoft) programs, especially games, not working on Vista when it was new as well. Most of them were addressed in service pack 1. This is actually why I haven't upgraded to Windows 7 yet myelf. Right now, all of my games work and none of them crash for no reason. That's all I ask of my OS.

Okay, a quick search of some tech forums and it seems like the two most common problems getting KOTOR to work on Windows 7 are NVidia graphics drivers and compatability mode. Most people who have gotten the game to work did one of two things:

1) Updated their graphic driver if using an NVidia card to the latest version available or

2) Configured the KOTOR executable to run as an admin in WindowsXP compatability mode. This is done by browsing your computer to the approriate executable (I would do it for both the launcher .exe and the actual game .exe files), right clicking, and selecting properties then the compatability tab.

I would also recommend disabling user account control if you haven't already. That is, if Windows 7 still has UAC. In Vista, you could enable or disable it in the Control Panel under User Accounts (I think, don't have a Vista box in front of me right now)

Sadly, neither of those is my problem. I'm playing on XP. KotOR works just fine, though I downloaded that off Direct2Drive and actually bought the disks for 2. And the Lucasarts help page has... 4 hours to contact me with the necessary information before I... um... do something bad to them? I don't recall seeing a number where I could bombard them with phone calls...

Edit: Anyone else find themselves drawn to watch Olympic Curling? Women's is on right now. Despite being American, I find myself cheering for Team Japan. Because... uh... they're pretty hot... >.>

Nah, I haven't watched the Olympics at all yet. But then, I really don't watch tv at all anymore.
