For all of you people who think power spam or cloak sniping is the only way to go for BIG DOMAGE, think again! The rank 6 flame burst evolution of incendiary ammo has a base 50% chance of proccing a 100 damage AOE flame explosion. Shotguns fire 8 pellets a shot. That's a potential 400 extra damage per shot, on average. But wait, it gets better! Power damage boosts from your skills increase this further. A soldier can get an extra 40% to ammo powers with the final rank of combat mastery. That ups the flame explosion damage to 140, which means you're getting a ridiculous 560 extra damage per shot, on average. And this is AoE in a 2.5 meter radius!
To put this in perspective, this like having a mini tech burst trigger on every shot. With adrenaline rush's damage boost and instant reload, I'm pretty sure this makes soldiers the kings of CQB .
Time to start a new soldier playthrough and abuse this to the max!

Wouldn't a high ROF full auto AR or SMG (revenant, tempest ) (with ammo upgrades) have more chances to proc those explosions ? AND FROM MEDIUM RANGE (not point blank like shotguns)
Shotguns take ages to reload (and have small clips) and also need time to travel (get in range) ...

Yes, you can abuse this with any high ROF weapon. The Geth Pulse Rifle comes to mind. However, most of the high ROF weapons in this game tend to be trash. With shotguns you get the very beefy base damage together with the mass flame explosions which is why I singled them out.
This isn't ME2. Shotguns are actually useful outside of point blank range now. The Disciple/Eviscerate/Wraith with a smart choke actually have very decent reach.Wouldn't a high ROF full auto AR or SMG (revenant, tempest ) (with ammo

On paper the benefits of the smart choke don't seem that significant (small percentage increase applied to small base value (shotgun accuracy)) ...

In a similar way to biotic explosions only being triggered once.

Yeah, I'm not really convinced that it will proc from each pellet with shotgun. Would be kinda too OP.

I tested it. It procs for each pellet. You can easily see this on the spectre firing range. A single shotgun shot with maxed incendiary will take out multiple targets at once.

In my experience it does what a shotgun choke does in real life, i.e. adjust the spread of the pellets. In this case, tighten them up so they don't spread out as far over a distance.All-a-Mort wrote...
What does the Smart Choke actually do? I don't use shotty's much, but I couldn't see any difference with Smart Choke applied.
