"Unable to connect to Dragon Age server" pop-up every minute or two, very annoying.

Every minute or two I get a pop-up that says "Unable to connect to Dragon Age server" and I must click OK before the game will resume. The odd coincidence is that Mass Effect 3 multiplayer also disconnects from EA's servers constantly. DAO and ME3 are the only two games in my library that do this. The common thread? EA's servers. No other game on any of my PCs or consoles has this issue.
What edition of the game you have (original release or Ultimate Edition)
Original release
The format of your game media (retail disc, EA Digital Download, Steam, Impulse, etc.)
Digital download
What patch version you have (see below for help)
DAOrigins.exe v1.00
DAOriginsLauncher.exe v1.01
DAOriginsConfig.exe v1.03
Uninstall Dragon Age.exe (looking more attractive with every passing minute) v 1.03
Your hardware specs (see below for hints finding these). Please include :
Phenom II X3 715 (3.1 GHz)
8 GB RAM
ATI 6850 w/ 1GB RAM
Microsoft USBAUDIO.sys
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
--no mods--
Finally... a complete description of your problem, including what steps you've already taken to resolve it
Every one or two minutes a pop-up window appears which says "Unable to connect to Dragon Age servers" and the game will not resume until I click OK. During this time I experience no other network problems of any kind and every other internet-using device in my household chugs along without a hiccup.
Steps I have taken to resolve it:
Googled this problem: read the discussion threads from this forum, the Steam users forum, and a few others. This issue goes back at least two years, and nowhere have I found any solutions of any kind.
Necroed two threads in this forum. That didn't work. They were locked, and I was admonished to type up this wall of text that you're reading now.
Did a live chat with ea.com support (lol), and got my usual cut-and-paste nonsense replies that basically boiled down to "strip your antivirus bare, open your network to the world, call your ISP and tell them to be less terrible, and embrace the doom that will come to your now open network." Not happening. No way. Honestly, I only use EA's online chat support long enough to tick the "I beat my head against that wall" box on the list so I can move on. EAs live chat is legendary for its uselessness.
Posting this wall of text.

While the game was patching, I did more Google searches. In the first five pages of results I found a LOT of forum threads which were about three posts long. The OP would describe the problem, and the two replies were "me too, this is terrible" replies. All of this seems to have been a big deal two years ago, and it was never fixed. I can only assume that those who suffered from this problem quit playing the game after never finding a solution.
You're drawing invalid conclusions.
First, now that you've provided what you disdainfully call a "wall of text" (I call complete information, thank you!), I understand your issue much better. Second, it's been my experience that many, many people report problems, find solutions, but fail to report back to the community.
To your issue:

Fuzzy logic, if understandably so. The "common thread" is actually *your PC's connection to EA's servers*. Thousands of people play the game without issue.
An easy thing to try, first and foremost with DA:O, is to play the game logged out. If you've installed the 1.05 patch, start the game, and go to the Downloadable Content menu. Make sure any DLC you have is authorized. Then go back the the main menu and log off, and uncheck the "automatically log me on" thing (sorry if my terms are inprecise, I don't currently have DA:O installed in my PC, so I am doing this from memory).
Anyway, see if you can play the game without interruption. DA:O does not require constant online log-in to play. This was a problem for a long time, but the 1.05 finally allows for this.
Another thing to check is to start the game, log in, ALT-TAB to the desktop, and start task manager. See if the DAUPdater.exe service process is running. You can read much more about that in the posts pinned towards the top of the forum.
Finally, a third possibility to consider-- if you're using a Windows 7 user account that does not have Administrator privlages, that may be causing issues when either DA:O or ME3 (or EA Origin) is trying access the firewall.
Hopefully those ideas will get you started in your exploration.

p.s. One more thing I just thought of... you downloaded DA:O from Amazon? Since you have Origin installed for ME3, does DA:O appear in your Origin library? If not, you might try adding it-- unless it wants to reinstall, which would require downloading the whole game again....
