If Bioware were to get shut down, it would be because of people returning their already used products because they disliked 5% of the game. I am sure EA would rather not deal with the headache some people are causing them. You can ask for a different ending without expecting people to give you refunds on a product you have already used and completed.

I knew the endings weren't great, however after reading those quotes I see how much different the product is based on what they promised.

In my honest opinion, this is actually sad news. By returning the game you are not actually helping BioWare to come out with a solution, but might actually hurt them as a division of EA, and furthermore it removes your voice of opionion regarding any changes that might take place.

It is very simple, if you do not own the product, you no longer have anything to complain about. Saying that you will buy it again if things are fixed, enables them to do changes in their own way and nothing stops the situation from becoming the same again.

If you stay with the product, and say "I will not play this until things are changed", gives them another sort of pressure. Negative ratings always look bad, but less budget is bad for any company. Less budget can kill the production quality as well.

I will not return the game, but I will make my voice heard. I love the Mass Effect games and I support BioWare in the pure belief that they will listen to their fans.

Honestly I'm surprised so many people care about Bioware or EA's feelings about this. The situation is simple, Mass Effect was a great story, and we were told multiple times that ME3 would be the culmination of that story, provide us with answers to all these choices, and have multiple outcomes based on what we did previously. Anyone who saw the endings can easily see that's a lie. As such it's not unreasonable to ask for a refund.

As for any future DLC, the very concept of paying them more for an actual ending is preposterous. I did not buy the day 1 DLC because I was against the concept, and have no intention of buying future DLCs for a product I did not like.

Sorry, but this is low. Even if you massively disliked the ending, you probably had fun with it over 15 hours (I played it for 38) before that 10 minute ending disappointed you. It's appalling to me to disregard the hard, collective work that they put into this game, especially given how great it is beside the ending and that it made even them cry during developement. Taking back your money after having completed the game is like spitting them in their face. I simply cannot agree with such a drastic action.

World's smallest violin playing "My Heart Bleeds for You"

EA has just realized that they will gain good will by taking back a falsely advertised game.  Which they now have.  Bioware has decided to get cute.

It only counts as falsely advertised if you take everything they said very specifically. Because in the game itself, all our choices mattered, and even the end gave you choices.

Seeing as EA makes over 3 billion a year, there is nothing at all unrealistic with expecting a proper and free ending.
Its well within their power and resources to do, and would be highly profitable for them in the long run, since this fiasko is hurting the entire franchise.

The ONLY way to make a company care is to hit their bottom line. Refund done:

Vinay:
Thanks for contacting EA Help! My name is Vinay how may I help you?

you:
Hi there, I was reading on the EA forums that some people who, like me, thought that the Mass Effect 3 advertising was false and misleading as compared with the actual game could get refunds on Amazon, and I was wondering if Origin offered the same thing for unsatisfied customers?

Vinay:
Hello.

Vinay:
Yes, we also provide the refund.

you:
Then I would like a refund for it.

Vinay:
Please tell me your order number.

you:
Order Number: xxxxxxxxxxx

Vinay:
Thank you.

Vinay:
Please allow me some time to check this order.

Vinay:
Thank you for waiting. I appreciate your patience.

Vinay:
May I know why you want the refund of this game?

you:
false advertising concerning the story and ending of the game

Vinay:
I am sorry but we never did the false advertisement of the game.

you:
The game was advertised as having multiple story paths and endings, which was misleading, as evidenced by the huge number of complaints on your own forums. A product that is sold without what was said to be in it should be refundable.

Vinay:
Okay.

Vinay:
If you want refund then please tell me your billing address.

you:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Vinay:
Thank you.

Vinay:
Please allow me some time to refund your order.

Vinay:
Thank you for waiting. I appreciate your patience.

Vinay:
I have refunded your order successfully.

you:
thanks

Strangeness:  I'm not sure if its related to the agent but when I was talking to the first agent named Manik I was asked my email account and purchase #. Then I was kicked off Orgin because some one logged into my account!!!! I logged in again and got kicked off in 20 seconds. This happened four times. Then I went in and change my password and it stopped. Write in bold in reply if this happens to you!!!!

That would be the customer service rep logging onto your account to confirm the information. I was activating Mass Effect on Origin (which I bought from another retailer) and they had to log onto my account to do it and confirm information. Then after they added Mass Effect, they asked me to log back on and confirm it worked.

Amazon is a great company, I almost felt badly for doing this, but I got a refund no problem.

In fact, here's what they said:

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about the problems you've had with "Mass Effect 3."

Because of the circumstances, I've made an exception to our return policy and issued a refund in the amount of $53.99. This refund should go through within the next 2 to 3 business days and will appear as a credit on your next credit card billing statement.

Game & Software Downloads are generally not returnable after purchase. We provide this information at the time of purchase and in the Amazon Games & Software Downloads Terms of Use.

Thanks for using Game & Software Downloads. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

That's great advice for the people that are protesting the ending, and such.  However, I severely doubt it will ever change, so I'd rather just have my money back, than the game.

Bleh. They told me that since I ordered it on 3/3/12, it's too late to return it. I really should have bought from Amazon.

Tell them you'd like to speak to someone else, make a ruckus, tell them Amazon is giving out refunds, and you've seen other people getting them, etc.

But stay polite.  No need to be a jerk to the guy on the phone.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear that.

Seems to be a trend with early orders on this one.  SInce I only bought my copy about a week ago they may be working on a time limit.

The idea that asking for a refund hurts Bioware's ability to make it right is simply preposterous. In case you haven't been paying attention; Bioware has summarily ignored its fans and refused to release anything in the way of reliable information that even hints that they intend to fix the game.

The chief thing this hurts their ability to do is get away with screwing over their fans while sipping umbrella drinks and mocking our concerns with their sterile PR drivel. Don't worry, they can still afford umbrella drinks....getting a refund only takes away their ability to mock you. They can still mock those others of us who have not sought a refund.

Also, am I wrong to take it that the cancellation of an DA2 expansion is due in no small part to this unprecidented revolt against crap games?   +1 for customer solidarity.

that said, I am a huge sucker for women with British accents, so I forgave freely the suck of DA2 because of Jo Wyatt's interpretation of FemHawke.  She made it all ok.  She did it again as FemAgent in TOR where 60 hours of listening to her voice while leveling a chiss agent was worth more than $60 to me.

thank god she didn't voice femshep or I would be powerless to resist loving the game.

I already told in another thread it's possible, but I was not returning mine, because there is no way the developers can impose that over us.But seriously, If this Wednesday ends with the same holier-than-thou pose, I'm returning mine as well.
Tired of it.

I see no need to return the game even if the ending was bad or false advertising has occurred, I enjoyed 98% of the game, I see no reason in play through 100% of the game then expect to get 100% refund because of 2% of it was disappointing. By getting that refund you're taking away from all that hard work so many people poured into that amazing 98%.

I Of course respect and understand other peoples opinions on the matter, just stating my own.

All I want is for someone with a blue "BioWare" logo under their name to make a thread that says "We're sorry. We F'd up and we'll fix it"

That's it. That's all you have to do. Hell, it took me 10 seconds to type it out. How f'n hard is this?

thanks for posting this information OP. i will be returning my copy, provided i am able to, as soon as i get home.

to those who think this is a bad move, claiming that by doing this we are not helping bioware fix the ending... you people are seriously part of the problem. the people who are making the decision to return this product are doing so because they have seen the past, and know it will only repeat itself in light of the current evidence. if you don't understand what i am talking about, try playing dragon age 2 and get back to me.

The only reason I bought the game, is because of that 2%.   I'm not gonna try and make it seem like I'm poor, but I'm a student, I splurged (which I never do) and I got burned as a result.  If I have a chance to get my money back, money I don't think the game was worth,  I sure as hell am going to.

It was only after 30 hours where it failed to match advertisement claims.
