I'd like to share this video from G4 with all of you. Many people are obviously irrate with the endings to Mass Effect 3, and as that base continues to grow by the thousands every day both monetarily (charity) and physically (Facebook) many people cite Fallout 3 as a source of hope and precedent.

Todd Howard: "We really messed that one up."

Todd Howard: " 'We should stand our ground!', no we messed up, lets fix it."

This video touches on what the situation is like at a developer during this kind of crisis and was the first notable exception to the rule. I will admit I am biased when discussing Bethesda because they make my all time favorite games, but up until the end of Mass Effect 3 there was no other trilogy in my library of entertainment more complete and defining to a genre than Bioware's.

Mass Effect 3's endings have summoned a discontent unlike anything the internet has ever seen before. Even during this crisis at Bethesda, I don't ever recall seeing this kind of mobilization of fans so devoted to a franchise.

I know this balances precariously on the edge of "Off-topic" and hope that it can be kept on source with Mass Effect 3 discussion when you are all mentioning the situation between the two.  I provide this only because it may help all of you feel better with the action Bioware is taking and the likelihood of change in this situation. If a studio renowned for taking home piles of Game of the Year awards is wise enough to change their ending for the people who love them, we should all have faith and patience with Bioware as well.

Suffice it to say, it took them 2 DLC's beforehand to fix the problem, hopefully Bioware's response will be at the front of the line.

What it's pretty much going to come down to is BioWare swallowing their pride and admitting they **** the bed with the ending. Bethesda did...you're up to bat, BioWare. Don't strike out.

I do find howard to be a person who promises more then he can achive most times, but that is one guy who really is passionate about games. Just the sheer happiness he shows when talking about a new product. There are many gaming companies that could use someone like him.

The only problem is that Bioware is not Bethesda. But we can hope, though.

Bethesda softworks still has an indie spirit and the freedom to exercise it. Whatever bioware does in this situation will come from EA...so we just have to hope the suits rule in our favor

Yeah, Besthesda doesn't work for EA. Let's just hope BioWare Edmonton still has something of themselves left...

And thus, we should buy Bethesda products and make sure they do not get temptation to let EA buy them.

That their games overall rock is also good reason.

don't see that coming. if we don't need answers, we certainly don't need an apology.

Bethesda are the No1 gaming devs of all time, and i say this because of a really important , crucial element...they support modding, hell they even release a full SDK for skyrim to support the community. if there ever was a mentor for game devs, these guys are it.

If you look at the sticky from Casey Hudson then this looks unlikely. They're not really answering any questions and sticking their fingers in their ears hoping this will all go away by the looks of things.

Sadly, after the utter debacle that was DA2, then this with the ME series, I've given up any hope for Bioware redeeming themselves, their products have taken a serious nose dive in the last few years. (The first 99% of ME3 is astoundingly good, it is however cancelled out by the atrocious ending)

Video games retail at significant cost these days and I'm afraid that I will no longer be taking the chance in future with any Bioware products, I will now wait for fan reviews of any future titles before deciding to part with my money or not. However after the feeling of having been ripped off with a product which was under par in just about every way (DA2) to the mind bendingly bad (and when I say bad, I mean they should fire whoever came up with/approved this) conclusion to the ME series the chances of Bioware seeing any more of my cash isn't looking too good,

Any chance of EA's deal with Bioware running out or are they owned for life?

The ball is indeed in Bioware's court. Are they going to man up like Bethesda did, and admit they misstepped in terms of a satisfying, logical conclusion with options for everyone that wraps up the series? Or are they going to cling to the platinum covered chocolate of can-do-no wrong?

I buy Bethesda games still for a reason - because they can admit when they've made a fatal error. I -want- to believe Bioware will man up, but the cynical part of me isn't going to bet on it.

Wow, well I would like to say if Todd Howard is big enough to say that then I would like to think Casey Hudson could take a good look at the endings of ME3 and also realize that they CAN fix it.

Bethesda, i like.

But Hudson prolly thinks that Skyrim sucks because its last big bad boss and heroic ending is too videgamey.

And Bethesda, despite their continuing success, remains a small company.

They make such a huge games and yet their entire employees are still less than 100 people.

When they made Oblivion there were only 60 of them in that company.

Its quite amazing how they maintain their indie spirit. Other companies, like Bioware, just keep getting bigger and bigger...

You know how Bioware can avoid losing a chunk of their fanbase?

By not dawdling, especially when it comes to DLC plans, and make an announcement either way when they finally take their fingers out of their ears.

People aren't gonna stick around if all they say is stick with us, we know what we're doing.

If they say yes, we know, and we'll fix this, really. Then we may have something to talk about,

I'm with you on this. I thought Bethesda and BioWare were the only two trustworthy developers left, but it's getting hard to count BioWare among them with this entire debacle. They couldn't have handled this situation any poorer than they have.

IMO this should be stickied to make damn sure the devs see this. I have more respect for this one man than for all of Bioware/EA combined.

I really gained a lot of respect for bethesda when they released Broken Steel, they admitted that they "messed up" and fixed it. I think most people respect them for that, lets hope bioware and EA will realize that it won't hurt sales or PR if they admitt that they did a mistake and fixes it.

on the flip side I am not sure bethesda could have afforded to make mass effect 3
I could be way wrong but with all the voice actors and shiny it seems like a lot of money would be needed
I don't say this to discount how amazing Bethesda softworks is.

The only difference is I loved the ending to Fallout 3. I also loved being able to continue and play afterwards, but I would have been fine if it stayed like it was. I will not be fine if ME3's ending stays like it is.
