It all suits me just fine :P I loved DA2; with a bit of tweaking (no more re-used maps, and flesh out the story a lot more) I'll be happy as a clam with whatever they come up with. I found Origins dreadfully long and boring in parts and never could connect with that sociopath of a Warden ... guy just stands there smiling silently at the screen. Creepy!

wowpwnslol, I think that comment was supposed to be sarcastic.. At least I took it as such when he mentioned accounts acquiring interest, free-checking, free atm/debit card usage, and millionaires paying more taxes than their secretaries but I could be misinterpreting the tone of his post.

I am all for not having instant regen of health and mana. I would also like the ability to eat , drink and get tired. I want to be able to die of thirst, stavation or exhaustion right in the middle of battle.

Awful idea. Eating/drinking (unless to regen health mana) in games just for the sake of realism just makes them tedius.

I'd rather they focused on things that actually matter, like talent trees, class variety, story where your choice matters etc.

Actually not an awful idea because it has been used quite successfully in many cRPGs like Alternate Reality: City and Dungeon plus a few other games of years pass. If it is not you cup of java that is fine, but it has already been done.

No actually I am talking about cRPGs from the past. For example, Alternate Reality actually had a working economic system with banks that gave interest on money deposited. The game also keep track of how hungry, thirsty, tired, hot, cold or encumbered was the PC. The PC could be poisoned, diseased or drunk. The conditions would affect the chracter's stats and fighting ability. The game had total non-linear gameplay. The charcter had to rest to regain health or see a healer. if you went to ssleep poisoned or diseased the character could die. Death was permanent, because any saves you had were marked as dead. The only way to reload was to save the save file to a different disk before you died. The game was fully fleshed out. And that was back in 1985. Just one example.

Survival mechanics work well in games that emphasize survival or with a strong simulationist bent. Fallout: NV is a good example of this. You're supposedly walking around a post-apocalyptic desert, so it makes sense that things like fresh water, food, and safe places to sleep would become enough of a priority to move from a background assumption to a gameplay element.

Here's another example most people tend to forget: Vampire: Bloodlines.

Your PC is a vampire and you have to constantly manage their feeding. Some clans can feed from rats. Some can only feed from 'blue bloods.' You can seduce, mind control, or hunt people, or even buy bloodbags for food. If you're caught feeding, there are penalties in the form of Masquerade violations.

It's a very old-school survival mechanism stuck in an otherwise story-centered game, but it's so well done and makes so much sense that no one complains about it or suggests the game would be better without such tedium.

I'm happy to over look certain aspects that may not entirely be to my tastes if the story is good and the characters are of a high standard personality wise.

I just hope Bioware (EA) isn't dumb enough to ruin a great universe like DA with their incompetence.

They sort of already started down that road with DA2. If DA3 isn't one of their finest games yet, then I don't see the universe surviving.

That is, outside of the Dragonage tabletop RPG. If I could ever find a group for the blasted thing.

Where do you live?

Tennessee, though i'd be happy to play with a group online as well. I just want a chance to try the game out.
