I press Start.

First thing I see is 'Checking downloadable content' (CDC).

The menu interface appears in the background and I can navigate it. I can also log into the EA servers but the CDC bar is still squarely in the middle of the screen and Loading is still spinning in the right hand corner.

It's not a big deal because as I said I can navigate the menu and start the game and when I go back to the main menu screen CDC bar is gone but it's very annoying.

Happens on evey start-up.
Yes, I have restarted several times.
I do have the Ashes DLC installed.

Just saying, maybe add this to the 'needs to be patched' list.  Thanks.

I started getting this problem after I entered the code for the N7 warfare (Valkyrie/Defender) / M-55 Argus. I already had the CE online pass installed and the From Ashes code. I got my CE from EB Games in Australia (along with the online pass and From Ashes) but got the N7 warfare / Argus code from a UK source. Code works fine (items are added in game) but the game often does the 'checking downloadable content' for an extended period.

The only workaround I have found is that you can still 'resume' a game while the message is being displayed. Once in the game, you can exit to main menu and the message should be gone.

I've had this issue off and on ever since I got ME3. Its very annoying. I can still navigate around and load the single player stuff, but if its blocking then it doesnt launch the multiplayer interface. One time it gave me an error and told me to reinstall my pacthes and DLC- which I did. I still get the weird loading thing occassionally though. As the previous commenter mentioned, loading and quitting a single player game can sometimes make it go away. It doesn't always work though, I tried it. Restarting the entire game can fix it, but really, I shouldn't have to do that. I've never seen a game that had bugs on the main menu. LOL!

I get the same error. I have the EB pre-order bonus DLC, but not From Ashes. I also found that launching single player and quitting to the menu will allow me to start multiplayer.

I have also found that if I (while the Check DLC message is being displayed):

Step 1) Select multiplayer first (which doesn't load)
Step 2) Select single player (which does load)
Step 3) quit back to the main menu

it will automatically launch me into multiplayer as soon as I get back to the main menu.

It will probably always do it. At least until BioWare patches it. It is annoying, but at least it recognizes your content :)

I think I figured out the problem. I had disabled the option to automatically connect to EA when the game starts and would connect manually once the game loaded.

If you set the game to automatically connect to EA servers, the problem goes away.

Bioware:
If you're going to give me the option of not logging into EA servers, you shouldn't have the game trying to connect to it to validate my DLC every time I start up the game.

Yeah, I get the same MP auto-launch. It happened directly after installing the pre-order DLC. I'm guessing that is the problem then?

Sort of. The game is trying to connect to EA to validate the DLC every time the game starts.

If it's bothering you, allow the game to automatically connect to EA servers (as I stated in my last post) and the problem goes away.

I had this issue after I turned of auto log in to EA servers. I turned it back to auto log in and fixed the problem for me.

My problem with auto login is that if for whatever reason my game can't contact the EA servers, then it will keep trying to log in and won't let me play the game...

Thank you for sorting this out guys. Setting the game to automatically connect to the EA servers did the trick.
I got really peeved just now because I had just installed the latest patch and couldn't even resume the game because it is now no longer possible to navigate the menu on the left hand side in the background. Had to disconnect the PS3 from the net to even be able to change the settings. Anyway working now.
