Slap a starfish head on a human and you get instant alien...... doesn't anyone care about reason when choosing which Tali art would be the most practical and logical?

It's not that the design we got is bad, just that it's not even their own design. I mean, was we really expecting anything less then human-like? Ever since ME1 its been known that they are the closest looking species to human. Even more then Asari, and they are pretty human-like, blue skin and squidlike hair, the only differences but still close. So Quarians would have even less differences.

If they had such a problem they should make a fan art elections and to winner give free acces to all ME features, I guess some it would be great PR step forward to franchise - to show us that they still care.
Somone can say that is farfetched but one of these guys which draw such a great pics(have a lot of different great pictures) would be proud - hell yeah they maybe even get a job in BioWare´s artists department.

meant the deviantart Tali with the starfish head..... not exactly a practical evolutionary step.  I mean Asari have tendrils because they evolved from the oceans, Salarians are like they are as they evolved from something similar to lizards, and Turians from reptiles.  With that art, slap a starfish on her head and ya got instant alien,  saying the same in regards to all Tali fan art.  No one would be happy unless Tali looked human.

I always pictured her to be green and hairless, maybe scaly. Kind of a Gorn green, but in a non-lame, humanoid and beautiful way...

I’d be plenty happy.

There’s no reason why the asari should have a crest (they’re not tendrils, theyre cartilage just like your ears) just because they were in the ocean; evolution doesn’t work that way. Stuff that gets you killed eventually phases out, stuff that’s useful slowly becomes dominant.

I’d say more ‘they evolved from reptiles, hence they look like reptiles’ is ‘instant alien’…

if they looked anything other than human I would have been good with it. as long as bioware MADE IT THEMSELVES and said "this is what a quarian looks like". It's like she's an alien, what did you expect?

You missed my point completely, and obviously because you're not listening and just want to be argumentative. Tentacles then, I was just making a descriptive.  Point being is, we have hair because we are mammals, fish have gils because they are fish, evolution leaves a marker and I don't see starfish head as valued evolutionary trait to pass on.  And who says their head tentacles get them killed? Are you guessing?  And why would you say they evolved from reptiles? Last I've heard there hasn't been any reptiles with tentacles.  And before you ask, what were their head tentacles for then, maybe when they were in the oceans they evolved from something that used them for swimming. There.  Starfish head smacked right on her forehead...... that's another question, what's the point.  And my point is, put some relevance when designing a creature.   And no one would accept a female alien love interest which doesn't have human characteristics, so they didn't take any risks

Tentacle is even less correct :P

Point being is, we have hair because we are mammals, fish have gils because they are fish, evolution leaves a marker and I don't see starfish head as valued evolutionary trait to pass on.

That’s because you’re anthropocentric. Evolution isn’t about the future, it’s about the past. It’s not an active force trying to shape creatures toward some optimum.

We don’t have hair because we’re mammals…we have hair because it was at some point a useful trait for a land creature. We now have less hair than our close relatives because of a confluence of A) not needing it, B) having some traits that work better without it, and C) aesthetic preference.

Fish don’t have gills because they’re fish, they have gills because they need oxygen, and gills have turned out to be a good way to extract it from water. We use gills as one marker to distinguish a certain evolutionary tree that we call fish. There are many creatures that live in the sea — whales, turtles, to wit — that don’t have gills and do just as well.

The point is that you can’t slap arbitrary labels on things based on your anthropocentric preconceptions if you’re not thinking the evolutionary paths through. A ‘starfish head’ could have any number of purposes starting from acting as a heat dissipator to housing specialized sensory organs to being a part of the brain…or it could have no purpose at all. So long as it doesn’t actively cause decline in the success of procreation, there’s no evolutionary pressure to lose it.

I just wish they would show what she really looks like, not this photoshop stupidness. honestly what were they thinking, did they even say that out loud to themselves and ask if that sounded like a good idea? Whatever she looks like I hope it's plenty alien not that shoop-da-whoop.

oh and before someone says wikia says they look human, someone just made that up, I can go click edit right now and say they look similar in appearance to blue pineapples and it would go through.

I agree, wish they made an original concept at the very least.  Whatever it may be...... worry about whiners who don't like that instead.  Think laziness is the main reason everyone hates it.
