EA/Bioware may have my money. They may have every right not to bring the closure they promised to the Mass Effect 3 universe. They may have their defenders and detractors, and they may even gain some sales by the ending debacle's presence in the news.

But they've also lost nine sales to my one. I love the game. I really do. But I cannot stand the ending. I received no closure about characters in whom I had invested so much emotionally, and was forced to make a choice which had no continuity with the rest of the Mass Effect lore.

Last night I hosted a discussion group at my house (not about Mass Effect) and one of the guys asked me about my recent twitter and facebook activity regarding the game. And then for 20 minutes I told everyone in the room why the ending disappointed me and so many others. It's to the credit of Bioware that telling the story of how Mass Effect 3 ended badly was so very interesting to some people who had never played the series, and how some who had played 1 and 2 chimed in to correct or embellish on what I had said about the lore.

It's to the detriment to EA/Bioware that, after I finished, someone said, "Well that's one game I won't be buying." And everyone largely agreed.

If this ending had been given the time and attention it deserved - the resources which we were promised - I would have been Bioware's most ardent salesperson. Instead I find myself in the unhappy role of disappointed consumer, warning friends about a disappointing denouement to an otherwise excellent story.

EA/Bioware: fix this for the sake of your current and future consumers.
