Yes, and romeo could have run away with juliet, Gilgamesh could have brought enkidu back to life, Darth vadar could have just cut the emperor and half and survived, Tristan could have lived happily ever after with Isolde, and sean connery didn't have to die in dragonheart.

Damn you story writers!!!!

But I point out that in each of those stories.. there is only 1 ending.  If you are going to allow multiple endings, why not make one of them a true happy ending.  Who does it hurt by doing that?  Those that need the dark endings get their way, and those of us that want the happy ending despite the gloomy setting can have it their way.  Why have multiple endings if you aren't going to give people what they want.... I'd prefer just 1 then.  But this has been argued like crazy and both sides refuse to budge on their opinions.

Its a DARK FANTASY game...and therefor happy does not compute...

I think its funny that so many of It's kind think happiness is necessary for existance..

I disagree, the time after the collapse of the Roman Empire were considered the Dark Ages yet Genghis Khan and Charlemagne had good times

Riordian knows how to start the Joining Ritual. Why not make some new Grey Wardens?
You've just spent monhts gathering thousands of dwarves, elves and humans to fight the Blight. Surely some of them are viable canditates for becoming Grey Wardens?

You can ask Riordan about this. Unfortunately you lack a key ingredient.

I don't understand why it's a bad thing to put more dialogs in those dificult moments, some people need to "say goodbye".

Where did you imagined that I said, it was for changing the endings ? No where! So please, think before writing.

I let folks know about Bioware thoughs on that subject because I know there are lot of people out there (see the topic : sign for Morrigan DLC) that still hope that endings will change because they don't make sense for them.

If you can't understand them, it's your problem do not claim that's a STUPID idea and that a dark fantasy so shut up people. NO! People need some answer so I just gave it to them.

@ Onyx Jaguar : I agree, I choosed the same ending, it was good :)

i quite liked the ending for my first playthrough, id been playing a female noble and pretty much done everything Moral and by the book. My character and morrigan didn't get on and had plenty of arguments culminating in Fiona cousland calling her "A heartless shrew" in the Arls estate. And then my PC finds out the only way to live happily as queen with alistair is to go through with the ritual and make Allistair sleep with Morrigan. things went from moral superiority over a Heartless witch to a dark pact

It was perfect, suddenly my character who had done everything for everone elses benefit has a moment of weakness and the relationship with morrigan took on a much darker nature.Things went from The feeling of questing knights moral superiority over a seemingly amoral witch to a dark pact which tainted everything.

The ritual went ahead and Everyone survived to live relatively happily, But my Characters shining armour was tarnished and who knows what Consequences that ritual will have.......

For me the good ending was ...

Loghain killed the Archdemon (I think he will do the final blow also naked :-)
Anora as queen, as she liked
Alistair left (naked) on his own will :-) (he hated to be king and why he should marry an unknown selfish girl, so what ? The best ending for him, he even has the offer to be always welcome in my company)
Morrigan left (also naked) without child (even she was my first girlfriend ... some stories tells she even has been seen with a child, maybe I was too often in her tent the first part of the storie, before I dated Leliana)
Leliana in love with me and the new girlfriend ...

ahhh ... but not finished, as the group is waiting in front of redcliffe castle for the DLC

No doubt he is a seasoned Warden and knows of what she is doing. Notice how if you were male, it would only be between you, her, and possibly Allistair. Surely if he knew about it he would be like "hell no".

That is exactly what I thought. Remember whatever Flemeth's plans were for Morrigan they included saving only the two youngest members of the wardens. Flemeth is smart enough to know that if she simply wanted to stop the blight and save Ferelden the two she should have rescued would have been Duncan and the King. Not Noob1 and Noob2.

I thought so as well. My happy ending was sparing Loghain, letting him kill the Archdemon and get Alistair and Anora to marry.

How did you do that? For me, sparing Loghain meant Alistair leaving.

At one point Alistair gives me a rose he has found growing in this "dark" world.  He comments that even in such times good things happen.  Even the game says good things can happen here, but then they lie.... just like the cake!  And just like you think its funny I want happiness, I think its funny that people like you think there can be no happiness in this kind of world.  I just disagree.  I think just like the rose good things can happen anywhere.  And it is a "fantasy" game.  I want all my fantasies to end in happiness no matter what is going on in that fantasy world.  If I want to see sad endings, I can turn on my tv at any time and watch the news.

Are there are really no happy endings if you play a female ... as male there is at least one ...

ohhh and never play Divinity 2 and Risen ... special Divinity 2 , there is only ONE ending and it is terrible (Mainchar Cheated to do rescue the evilst persons in that world and encaged with the good ones in an ethernal prison ... as I said ONLY ONE ending ... and there are lot of other RPG games, where are you really pissed off ..

even it would be possible, it will be a worse ending for Alistair ... as he had to marry an unknown woman. he didn't even love and he hated to be king ...

if he leave he has time to see that and enjoy his time ... find a loved wife and adventures , even could return to the grey wardens, as you could offer it, when he leaves !

What was bad about the end of Risen? You defeat a titan, and have gain the power to sense and destroy its brothers, possibly saving the world.

I don't see what's so terrible about the human noble female ending. Sure Alistair shags Morrigan but he clearly doesn't enjoy it, and it's a necessary sacrifice in order for the two of you to have a life together. At least you CAN have that life together. There's no happy ending if you're romancing Morrigan.

Depends on what you consider happy. If you romance Zev, yes you can have a happy ending.  If you romance Alistair, either one of you has to die or Alistair has to perform the ritual... which brings sadness to me even though I know it's saving our lives. I guess I just don't want my man having sex with anyone else...lol.

And thanks for the heads up on the other games.   Before I was given this game, I had been hooked on World of Warcraft for years and years.  And before that games didn't have such intricate stories.  You were a hero... you save the world....happy ending...lol.

The Isle has been cut off from the rest of the world because of storms, but that doesn't mean the rest of world was destroyed. Though it's definately in bad shape.

I don't see why a happy ending has to be a perfect one. Sure one of you has to met their maker (or not), but you stopped the Blight and everyone is happy, there's even a coronoation.

Sure, rescuing two men from the centre of a pitched battle with the Darkspawn horde before they run into Grins the Ogre sounds just as easy as plucking the future hero and sidekick from the top of a very tall tower after the big battle has been finished and most of the Darkspawn are tucking in for dinner.

OIC, I was expecting an actor of his stature to be on the first page. Anyway, do you reckon' the flick worth buying?

(Sorry for the OT, but this thread seems to be derailed far from the OP anyway.)
