*** Spoilers follow re: Williams as LI in ME3 - You have been warned ***

Several month ago I had a thread that discussed the Horizon incident with Williams as your LI. Turns out, I was right.

I said that Williams wouldn't come rushing back into your arms. She didn't.

I said that Williams would no longer trust you. She didn't.

I said that you would have to win her back. You did.

I said that she would hesitate to follow your orders at a critical moment and she did and it very nearly proved disastrous because she had a gun leveled at your head and the fate of the Council swung in the balance.

When lives are at stake you don't have time to explain yourself. You need your subordinates to trust you. Williams never did until she plumbed the depths of her soul as the clock ticked down on the Council's lives. Personally, I thought I would have to kill her in order to save the Council, but she relents at long last. The time she took to decide if she would comply is time that easily could have turned fatal for Shepard, the Council, and for herself. Further, Shepard had every reason to put a bullet in her head because she had proven consistent in her distrust for him and that distrust threatened the lives of the leaders of the Council. As such, Shepard had no reason to believe that she would relent. There's something about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results and the definition of insanity, but I digress.

Williams claims to have loved you, she claims to trust you, and she claims that she will follow your orders. She lied. You cannot love someone that you do not know. You cannot claim to trust someone and then distrust them at every turn. You cannot claim to follow orders and then aim a gun at the person who is giving that order. Of all the people who should have known Shepard the best, she did a lousy job with that information.

T&A is not a good excuse for endangering your mission or yourself. You might want to do Ashley, but that has absolutely nothing to do with what Shepard is about. In pursuit of her, you jeopardize your mission and risk lives.

What's more, Ashley never apologizes for any of her crap. She just tells you that she needs more time to get to know you again. See, Shepard is always wrong and Ashley is always right and that's a larger issue that is never explored in ME3. Ashley never woman's up and owns her BS. But you, well that's another story.

Further, she also never seems to key in that she has done to Shepard what the Alliance did to General Williams. General Williams was placed in an untenable position and left with no choice and he did the best that he could under the circumstances. Does Ash ever recognize this? Nope, she never clues in to the parallels between her grandfather and Shepard. A bitter irony indeed, almost Russian in fact.

Ashley Williams has failed you as an officer, she has failed you as a lover, and she has failed you as a friend. Why in the name of God people put up with that, I have no clue. If you happen to have no self respect, you do eventually kiss her behind enough that she finally yields a tender moment, but it is long in coming and ultimately not worth the aggravation in my estimation. Ashley went from a comrade in arms to a career woman and looked at Shepard as a liability and it really is that simple. She never contacted him while he was detained and she never even bothered to communicate her rapid rise through the ranks to him either and that even surprised the hell out of Anderson when he found out.

Some have suggested that she was ashamed of herself and her actions on Horizon. But if that were true, why the intense distrust of Shepard? Distrust only comes from doubts and those doubts led Ash straight to the conclusion that Shepard was in TIM's pocket and he was therefore no longer worthy of respect or trust. Yeah, Ashley is a prize alright.
