Garrus is a bro sure, but I never understood where all the fan adoration (especially from the fangirls) comes from. He has a nice bit of banter back and forth with Shepard in Mass Effect 2 about being your br0 4 lief and a few bajillion "lolcalibations" jokes later but aside from that what is so great about him? He warmed on me a lot in Mass Effect 3 - like Liara this was most likely because of how much people loved him - but really he was never a favourite in the previous two games for me.

None of my female friends like him much more than in that "bro" sense as MaleShep does, yet you can't trip over a forum or art thread without people swooning over how amazingly great Garrus is.

I mean really? Because he's spess Batman? Somebody expalin.

He's been in your squad for all three games; that's a big part of it for me.

Some people wouldn't shut up about him being a "bro" or some such rot, and Bioware made it canon that Shep is besties with him as of ME2 whether you want it or not. As for the perverse sexual lust some lady gamers have for the bird/raptor alien freak... no comment.

Personally preferred Wrex for my wingman.

I guess because majority of fans find him to be funny and his alien so they ignore any flaws he has.

Plenty of male gamers want to get with him too, we just have to play femshep to do it.

For me it's the voice, plus his adorable shyness once he realizes you're interested (and has no idea how a cross-species relationship would work.)

Because Garrus is awesome. I'm almost tempted to a play a femshep just to experience his romance option first hand.

For me I never got how it was suppose to work sexuality. It seemed... off. But hey, Garrus got such a huge girl fanbase, apparently I just didn't get it. I always thought of a Garrus of being my bro and I'm a chick.

Garrus romance is probably the healthiest female hetero romance BioWare has written; or at least one that you could say without a doubt would last until they're old and gray. They did good with him.

My FemShep wasn't interested in him in ME1. The way he dealt with joining in ME2 was a huge contrast to how everyone else from ME1 dealt with it. Super loyal, respects Shep. In his LM he showed he had a mind of his own so he isn't a doormat either. I would think he grew on me after the LM. Felt like paragon choices saved him from "ruthless calculus".

He's also vulnerable but not broken. A lot of the romances have super broken people with issues that they emo over forever. Garrus has his insecurities too but he's got more quads than any of the other LI (well maybe Liara too) that I've seen. Kaidan, Jacob, and Thane were the only other hetero romances a FemShep could engage in and Thane comes in a close second in my book to Garrus. Kaidan is useless in battle (or at least to my playstyle), the lines with Jacob in ME2 turned me off right off the bat, and Thane is second-choice because...well...

Plus I'm fascinated about the nose scrunches turians do...very interesting. But I agree on the physicality thing. BioWare was very tasteful in the Garrus romance scenes. You notice small physical gestures between Garrus and FemShep but not overbearing skin/scales/whatever. My fiance saw Garrus' facial expression before he dipped FemShep and kissed her and he said, "That dragon's got smooth moves."

I squealed and said, "I know!" while clapping frantically at my PC screen.

I love Garrus because he's loyal, funny, badass, very skilled and romantically awkward.. Also I really like his character development in the 3 games and the fact that he actually was with you for those 3 games *kuchKaidankuch*

I completely agree with this statement, even though I am a die-hard Thane fan!

I think healthy male/female relationships in games/popular books/etc. is pretty rare, and the Garrus/Shepard romance is probably one of the best I've seen, especially from a feminist standpoint. Their relationship is founded based on the male's respect and admiration for the female and not anything superficial. He appreciates her and her strength and doesn't try and diminish her in the slightest...but at the same time super confident and secure in his own abilities. He's also funny and charming! I liked Thane for the dark, tragic and intense fantasy element, but using my actual real world sensibilities and preferences, a guy like Garrus would win any day of the week. He's a great character and the romance was shockingly well done given the romanticism of crappy boyfriends that currently saturate the media (Twilight, anybody?).

Pretty much what these two said.

The only human character I wanted a romance with didn't get one (Joker). And the others? They were painful to try to go through, for various reasons. Garrus' romance is just done so well compared to the others (in my opinion, at any rate).

He's been my buddy since the beginning. And one of my favorite characters. I'm not a woman so I don't care to comment on him romantically/adoration.

If I was female I'd probably be swooning over Garrus as well honestly. He's an extremely deep and well characterised figure in the series with a wide range of emotions and the relationship between Garrus and Shepard is easily one of the strongest, closest and healthiest in the games regardless of whether you romance him or not.

Plus his voice is awesome.

Whats not to like?

I personally find garrus quite beautiful. Just like a cool sport car I guess. He is aesthetically pleasing. But in the end what he looks like is somewhat beside the point since he is just a video game character. And thats where they did great with Garrus, his romance is superb for a game. Just like Liara, he's by Shep's side the whole for the whole third game. So you get to have the nice flirting dynamic of Shep and her badass boyfriend snarking and oneuping each other. The perfect super efficient spec op couple, having each other's back all along and kicking ass. Saddly Tali comes too late for that and VS spends half the game reenacting Horizon 2.0 right when you think you've got things fixed with them and are gonna enjoy their compagny... bam you're dead.

Garrus is like Batman in Space. If Batman wasn't so allergic to killing people.

If you REALLY want to know why Garrus takes the ultimate badass card. Just read his Lair of the Shadow Broker dossier about his "work" on Omega.

His romance, as has been stated already in the forum well but can be iterated, is a solid and healthy one.

Garrus is emotional about you without being too sentimental and loyal without being clingy. Neither Shepard nor Vakarian are overwrought about one another but genuinely interested in the other for who they are and they share a mutual respect and trust for the other.

Garrus is confident, cool, and has a super-sexy voice; I find it hard to not care about his character because it develops from an acquaintance to friend to lover over more time than the other femshep romances.

No one should ever underestimate the appeal of a tall, funny guy with a hot voice who shows a woman the same unshakable loyalty, and treats her with the same amount of respect, as he would a man in her position.

Factor in badassness and fantastic writing (and one of the most satisfying character arcs in the trilogy), and you have yourself an unqualified winner. Looks aren't even a consideration at this point, although there are plenty of Garrus fans who find him attractive.

He's a badass, and I like the sarcasm. Plus I just like his story. He's a guy whose motivations are clear and pure, yet he finds it incredibly difficult to find his place in life and the universe and is constantly disappointed, most of all by himself. It's just a good character.

And if you don't like his "top of the Presidium" scene in ME3, you have no soul.

I was won over by the amount of respect Garrus has for FemShep. That's pretty rare in fiction, and as a feminist, it clicked just right.
Also, he's tall, hilarious, and has a sexy voice.

On another note, I never understood why he wasn't made into an LI for ManShep. I mean, if you've already committed yourself to boning a dextro-amino-dinosaur-man, you're probably not the kind of person who worries too much about gender.

I think I romanced Garrus at first because I expected him to say no in ME2. And then I just went with it, because, honestly? It made sense. Kaidan had more or less abandoned my Shepard, but Garrus had always been a loyal friend, and he'd grown up a lot since ME1. So I slogged through the awkwardness and then the final romance scene of ME2 was adorable.

The fact that he's got a really awesome voice actor doesn't hurt. I personally don't think Garrus is physically attractive, but as a woman I can tell you that physical attractiveness is not the only thing women look for. Physical appearance is much more important, in general, to men than it is to women.

And I really like how the relationship evolved in ME3. I'd always said before that if turians were real, I'd never date one because I'd be too busy running in the other direction and screaming in abject horror. They look pretty terrifying. But, after ME3, Garrus proved himself to be stable, caring, and while not perfect, a very good boyfriend for Shepard. So... why not? Doesn't matter what he looks like if he treats you that well, and shows you respect, and is in general there for you. Relationships aren't supposed to be one-sided, and Garrus and Femshep are partners. Romance him and you're partners in every sense of the word.

Pretty much this.
